Avatar f tn Occasional temporary insomnia happens to most at some time or another. If it persists, a sleep study can be useful in identifying any sleep disturbing disorders. Some meds are known to disrupt sleep, as well as some mood disorders, and also things like sleep apnea or limb movements. You have every reason to presume your insomnia is temporary or at least treatable.

Avatar m tn I have developed a sudden acute onset initial insomnia where I feel myself nod off and wake up repeatedly, i.e. enter stage 1 nrem being aware of either myoclonic twitches, brief dreaming or sensation of falling then awake again. I might cycle through this maybe dozens of times over an hour or more as I try to sleep. This cycle repeats itself when I awake later in the night usually 2 to 3 times. I am exhausted from lack of sleep. Temazepam 10mg didn't stop this. I am otherwise well.
Avatar f tn 1. Could this be the onset of Sporadic Fatal Insomnia? What is the best way to get tested for that? 2. Could panic and anxiety themselves be causing such powerful and varied symptoms? Thanks!

Avatar f tn I never would have though of that and I have done alot of reading on various sleep disorders. I think I have delayed sleep onset. I cannot sleep when the rest of the world is sleeping. If I am left to my own schedule (fall asleep 6a-8a sleep until 2pm) I sleep fine. It is very lonely to be only one awake but I am used to it. In my case my sleeping difficulties have not been present for 3 months, 6 months but for many years.
Avatar f tn I have a question regarding INSOMNIA? About 6 months ago, I started having insomnia, only to sleep maybe 2 or 3 hours and waking up instantly. At the time, I did not think anything about it, but now as time has gone on, it has become severe. My neurologist gave me some more Ativan for it, but I try not to take it, if I do not have to, but eventually through a week's time with the insomnia, gradually I am turned around like I'm working midnight shift.
Avatar m tn Hi, yours symptoms are suggestive of insomnia. Your symptoms may be due to Shift of work or sleep cycle due to late night work, parties etc. The sleep problems can be resolved by transferring from the night shift or by adopting a daily sleep routine that is consistent seven days per week. Chronic insomnia may develop in individuals who work the night shift on either a rotating or permanent basis. You can try melatonin against prescription which helps your sleep cycle to bring it to normal.
