Avatar f tn As with any particualr behavior, its importance is determined by the context in which it occurs. If he is developing well overall (in the cognitive, physical, social and emotional domains), the behavior does not invite concern. It sounds like the behavior is a self soothing behavior, but I can't assume that without knowledge of his overall developmental status.
Avatar m tn A lot of studies are going on to study the importance of REM sleep, which is the dream phase of sleep. Psychologists generally agree that achieving the dream state of sleep is a critical element for maintaining good mental health. Conversely, depriving ones self from dreaming can cause a number of adverse health problems, including fatigue, reduced immune system efficiency, heart disease and mental health issues including delusions and severe cognitive reasoning deficits.
Avatar m tn Tiredness could be due to inadequate sleep. Restless in sleep could be due a sleep disorder. These disorders can be like obstructive sleep apnea, wherein during sleep there is an obstruction to air flow due to laxity of the throat muscles during sleep and this could cause restlessness.hence for therapy CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) is used to keep it patent.
Avatar f tn Within the past four months, I have had my grandmother pass away, my boyfriend cheat on me and dump me for another girl, and have had a difficult semester of classes (I am a 19 year old college student). I have been trying to take care of my sadness with exercise. I feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, and while I feel better for a couple hours after I work out, it still comes back. Anybody know what I'm dealing with?

Avatar f tn I am a 24 year old student who has been having GI issues for the past couple of months. I went through a period where I had diarrhea every day for 2 weeks without a fever. Although there was no sign of any blood in the stool I have had blood from my rectum. I figure this is most likely from irritation of the acidic diarrhea or a hemmroid. The blood is scant when wiping and bright red.

1615999 tn?1307461942 s sleep was much like you describe, but it was back before sleep apnea was even on the radar. Sometimes longstanding sleep apnea can cause changes to the heart that might be evident on autopsy, but is not always the case. Sleep apnea does increase risk of a cardiac event or a stroke when the oxygen levels drop in the blood due to lack of air intake for which the heart tries to compensate. Big stress on the body.
