Common Questions and Answers about Sleep cycle

sleep

Avatar n tn One night I sleep 4 hours, the following I sleep almost none, the following I sleep 6-7 hours, then again 4 hours and back to barely any. A friend reccommended melatonin supplements which don't help. I've tried "sleep" by nature made. Nothing seems to help. When I'm falling asleep, I suddenly wake up. I used to get palpitations but not anymore.
Avatar f tn What is important is that you get the best sleep that your body requires. If you seem to function best on this cycle then I wouldn't worry too much about it, but if it becomes a bother, or you are truely concerned about it, then I would mention it to your doctor.

2080404 tn?1643113754 I had to stop my Ambien for a couple days on Wednesday because my teeth started acting up and I was sick half of Wednesday, all of Thursday and only managed 3 hours Thurs/Friday morning. Last night was better. After cleaning my teeth out, I lay down without the washcloth I'd used for relief the night before and slept a few hours soundly. It took a few minutes to wind down and quiet my mind but I woke a few hours later because my teeth were hurting.
737752 tn?1238253672 t stressed out, it can come out in your sleep and can cause all sorts of sleep disturbances, such as nightmares, restless sleep, and sleep-panic attacks. Are you on meds or in therapy? Have you ever suffered from anxiety or panic attacks?
Avatar m tn It can if directed by a psychiatrist be used every day to work to adjust the sleep cycle and has been helpful for some people I know in that regard.
Avatar f tn It does sound like narcolepsy to me but it could be any of the sleep cycle disorders really. Sleep paralysis is a very common feature of narcolepsy. How old are you? I was convinced I had narcolepsy when I went but I ended up having periodic limb movement disorder. It's where you kick your legs and move your arms all night long. Every time I would get into REM, I would kick my legs or move my arms and it would jerk me out of it. That's what caused me to remember my dreams vividly.
Avatar m tn Hey Thanks everyone. I knew that was close, I just wanted to know the "How" & "Why", too much time on my hands not sleeping. Thank you. Curt.
8305112 tn?1402009678 I still do, being 31 weeks, but my sleep cycle is a little better. I would love to only wake up once a night to pee. Hope things get better for you.
1935826 tn?1323883580 You should stop becoming anxious about sleep as this becomes a vicious cycle and you may face problems falling asleep. There is a circadian rhythm for all living organisms. It is a 24 hour cycle rhythm and the biological clock within that individual adapts to this rhythm. If you observe this rhythm, the transition happens gradually, like the daylight subsides slowly into darkness and the sounds too gradually mellow down into the night. These changes condition us and promote sleep.
Avatar f tn I am a nursing mom, and sometimes during the day, he is more interested in playing than eating. What can I do in order for him to sleep through the night? Lack of sleep is really starting to take a toll on my ability to be the mother that I strive to be.
Avatar f tn This was the worst lesson I learned during the 14 years of treating my fibromyalgia condition which is a sleep disorder in itself for me. These chemicals disrupt the brain and body's chemistry which control our body functions, one of which is the sleep/wake cycle. You're getting there but you'll need patience until your brain gets the message (when these drugs dwindle to very little) that it has to once again produce its own chemicals for sleep/wake.
Avatar f tn m able to get back to sleep after I wake up at night its every two hours apart. Is it just my body setting its new schedule for when my little girl is here? I'm 37+6. 15 days to go!!
5265383 tn?1669040108 I'm a limbo-lander who has never posted before. Amongst many other symptoms, my sleep cycle has gone crazy. I wake up, for the day, at all hours of the night. Last night I didn't sleep all night -- usually I manage 3 hours, sometimes 4. My first mri showed a lesion in the left internal capsule, anterior limb. Since axons from the thalamus run through this section, I'm wondering if that is causing/contributing to my inability to maintain some semblance of a sleep pattern.
Avatar f tn You're waking up at each part of the sleep cycle when you go into deep sleep. You may want to post your question to Dr. Jacobs first to deal with sleep hygiene/insomnia issues first. If you don't find any improvement, there may be a sleep-breathing problem that needs to be addressed.
1117509 tn?1259063433 t but then there are days when I sleep with no problem. I do find myself noticing that this is a cycle issue with me. I do not take anything for it as I don't like taking too many pills. I can sleep only at certain places....like my mom's house when we go to visit or my in-laws house...but I ALWAYS have to fall asleep in the car. I don't know what it is with it, but I'm guaranteed to fall asleep ALL THE TIME.....sometimes within the first 5-15 minutes of being in it.
Avatar f tn I'm right there with you!! For now I have to have a sleep-aid! Get some sleep and congrat yourself on 8 days!! One step at a time!!
Avatar f tn In the initial phases of the sleep cycle and while awakening, we tend to be more conscious or alert. If we study the brain waves at these phases they tend to show the alert wave pattern, this could cause the awareness. If it is not interfering with your sleep schedules you don't have to worry. If it persists or is troublesome consult your doctor for assessment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Does anyone else have trouble sleeping at night cause the baby moves constantly in the night time?! And does his sleep cycle in the womb hint to how his sleep schedule will be after he is born?
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. It could be that you are stressed out. You should not keep thinking about sleeplessness, as this in turn promotes insomnia and it becomes a vicious cycle. You should stop becoming anxious and try to relax. Try to have a warm bath before sleeping. Have a glass of milk or read a book before trying to sleep. Don’t watch TV or do exercise before sleeping. Condition yourself that you can relax and that you can sleep well.
Avatar f tn I also have been told about the link between poor sleep and worse fibro symptoms. However, I have not been told about not napping. In fact, my doctors have actually told me to get sleep when and where I can. For me, sleep is a major problem - it doesn't matter whether I have napped during the day or not, so when I feel that irresistable urge to close my eyes for a few minutes, if at all possible, I do it.
Avatar n tn Talk about frustrating. I hope some day to get back to a normal sleep cycle. I tried Melatonin, a hot bath and Chamomile tea. I have to say, I haven't ingested ANY Caffeine or sugar. I wish you luck. Hang in there!
Avatar f tn and i had been preparing seriously for an exam which came up on the 6th and 7th, i had little sleep hours, say about 3 to 4 hours and eventually, i have malaria symptoms so i am using coartem since yesterday. But, my breast doesnt feel tender, the size has been fluctuating, at some point they seem bigger, at other times they look smaller, i dont have appetite for food and sometimes i have this feeling below my tommy like the period is coming, but there's nothing.
Avatar m tn EEG can identify the sleep cycle which is a repetition of 4 to 6 cycles of NREM non rapid eye movement and REM rapid eye movement sleep starting with NREM sleep. With lack of sleep there is reduction In the time spent in the deepest stages of NREM( stages 3 and 4). Any loss in this activity is replaced by stage 2 NREM sleep. The EEG can read these phases of sleep and can give clue to a sleep deficit. I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me for any clarifications.
