657236 tn?1224723091 Central sleep apnea is unusual in young children, but it can occur. Did her sleep study show that she had obstructive episodes as well? What you're describing sounds more like obstructive sleep apnea. Sometimes, if you have both, treating the obstructive part can help the central apneas. Rarely, neurologic conditions can cause central sleep apnea, so maybe seeing a neurologist is an option later if her condition does not improve.

Avatar n tn Ask him about sleep apnea in children as well as other sleep disorders and the possibility of getting an allergy test.
Avatar m tn These relaxation techniques will help you with sleep apnea naturally. Do it with concentration and with eyes closed. Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Avatar n tn Hello, I can understand your concern for your daughter. Breath holding spells are common in children and these may occur even during sleep. These are less likely to be related to her ASD. I suggest you to consult a sleep specialist and get a sleep study done for your daughter. She may be having sleep apnea as well but this can be confirmed only after sleep study.
Avatar f tn I have been hit with Severe daytime fatigue since last june. In Jan 2009 I had a perforated esophagus and prevertebral abcess from it. 12 weeks of antibiodic therapy and ok now. On a CT and MRI done in June for neck pain from c5-c7 fusion, they showed "Unusual lobular lesion in right thoracic region that may represent Adenopathy or Vascular Anomaly. Unusual nodule irregularity right thoracic inlet that may represent prominent vascularity or Adenopathy.
Avatar f tn In my situation, I am awakened in the middle of the night by nasty headaches. I suffer from Sleep Apnea. It was suggested to me that I may have Complex Sleep Apnea. However, it was also explained to me that this area of sleep apnea is new, not many specialists know much about it. FWIW, I also have a small temporal lobe lesion.
1173247 tn?1504594662 Older people, say 65+ in my experience, suffer from spinal cord deterioration which give a intermittent (not all the time) clicking and pop in the back of the neck, not throat. Obstructive (sleep) apnea would also be suspect for the breathing problem, I think.. especially when lying down. But that problem foo is more common with senior age and overweight people.
Avatar n tn Waking up frequently may also be a sign of sleep apnea, though one does not have to do this in order to have it. A reason you may be waking up could be because your brain is realizing that you are not getting enough oxygen, and this causes you to wake up. Your heart rate being up could also be due to lack of oxygen. Best thing to do would probably be to see a doctor, get tested for sleep apnea to see if that is it, or rule that out.
Avatar n tn m guessing since you mentioned seeing an ENT that it is obstructive sleep apnea, and not central sleep apnea. It is not uncommon for children with large tonsils and adenoids to have OSA. And sometimes there can be structural issues in the throat that can cause the airway to narrow. It depends on why he's having breathing obstructions what treatment would be effective. For my daughter it was removing her tonsils and adenoids.
Avatar n tn For years I have experienced tachycardia in sleep which wakes me (unless I take a beta blocker). Have seen 2 cardiologists and ECG, continuous monitoring, echo, stress tests, etc. are all normal. Have been told I do not need the beta blocker but when I stop, symptoms recur. Should I see a sleep specialist?
Avatar f tn Snoring does often accompany sleep apnea, but just because you snore does not mean you have sleep apnea and vice versa. Minor sleep apnea is responsive to self-help remedies such as losing weight, eliminating the use of alcohol, tobacco, and sedatives; sleeping on your side, and regularizing your sleep hours. It would be best to see a sleep specialist for proper management and to ease your worries. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn i have mild obstructive sleep apnea and use a cpap,,,i was recently in hospital for some stomach surgery and noticed how much better i felt each morning after using oxygen at 2 liters with my cpap then when i was at home...even though i was in pain i woke every morning feeling very refreshed.. i feel the oxygen made a big difference in my recovery and feeling much better...could using oxygen at home just with the cpap give me the same feeling of being able "to take on the world" ...
Avatar m tn i was diagnosed with sleep apnea after sleep studies was done and i do not snore at all but i do snort from it
Avatar n tn I am trying to find a link to med given to me by the military that may have caused sleep apnea. a friend said he read that some of the shots given to us before we went to the persian gulf could cause sleep apnea.
Avatar f tn I know because I have mild sleep apnea and would occasionally wake up out of a sound sleep because I had stopped breathing. Sleep apnea is nothing to mess with, but is also easily treated. I highly encourage you to have a sleep study done to help you get to the bottom of what's going on. In the meantime, try not to sleep on your back. I wish you all the best!
Avatar n tn As long as she is eating a balanced diet vitamins are not necessary, and in any case they would make no difference in what you are describing. It can be true that sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, can interfere with sustained attention and the symptoms can certainly look very much like Inattentive-type ADHD. The only way to know for sure about apnea is to have a sleep study.
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum, This does sound like it could be sleep apnea and some resolve post op from decompression surgery but in the meantime ur Dr should be made aware and u should be tested for oxygenation of ur blood and for sleep apnea...this can be done right in ur home thru a company called NovaSom....ask ur PCP about it and see if u can get the testing, and all testing should be covered by INS.
Avatar f tn Why would you lose your license if you have sleep apnea? Isn't that just when someone stops breathing in their sleep. If your awake, it's not like you stop breathing. Help me understand sleep apnea please!!
1615999 tn?1307461942 s sleep was much like you describe, but it was back before sleep apnea was even on the radar. Sometimes longstanding sleep apnea can cause changes to the heart that might be evident on autopsy, but is not always the case. Sleep apnea does increase risk of a cardiac event or a stroke when the oxygen levels drop in the blood due to lack of air intake for which the heart tries to compensate. Big stress on the body.
Avatar f tn i have been diagnosed with sleep apnea.....overall,mild obstructive apnea, becoming severe in rem sleep with mild oxygen desaturation.I used a nose prong (resimed) for three weeks no problems at all, then developed dermatitus in and below my nose, sore and unsightly.I tried a mouth splint ,with lots of adjustments, had facial and ear pain.My doctor advised perservering with c-pap,but also adding the apnea was not bad....total rdi=12.1/hr.I am going on a cruise next week, and I am worried.
1571776 tn?1296348020 So much so that I tell my husband to check on me during the night to make sure I am still breathing and to make sure I wake up easy. I can no longer sleep in our bed because I can't seem to get comfortable. I sleep on our couch b/c I can get more comfortable and I am always tossing and turning or having to get up to go to the bathroom. I try and let my husband get his rest as he is the only one working right now and he works 11 hr. days. Plz help me and let me know what you all think.
Avatar f tn You need to find out if you have sleep apnea or not. Its important. If you have sleep apnea, you literally stop breathing in your sleep. There is a high risk you will not start breathing again on your own. Do a sleep study at home and if you do have it, its important you let yourself get use to wearing the mask. It took me approx a month. Get on this issue. Its worth it!!
1384923 tn?1308410640 Hi, I havent had surgery for chiari but I was dx with sleep apnea 2yrs ago and was prescribed a c-pap machine. My cardiologist told me that sleep apnea may contribute to my heart beating faster during the day. I would also wake up gasping for air..it was horrible. Once I felt like was was gona faint and never wake up, very scary. Later on i found out that it is one of the many symptoms of chiari.
