1388874 tn?1279780177 You betcha. If you want a definitive answer, then consult your doctor and ask for a sleep study to be done. While sleep apnea is treatable, going untreated isn't a good plan. It is linked with a number of diseases (including heart disease), depression and other symptoms. I know from experience. Of course he might not have sleep apnea, but I think it is worth checking out. A sleep study is completely painless.
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, firstly you need to rule out the cause of sleep apnea. Obesity and upper airway soft tissue abnormalities are known risk factor and smoking multiplies the risk by 3 times. Even alcoholism, nasal congestion, craniofacial abnormalities, hypothyroidism, acromegaly, and adenotonsillar hypertrophy can lead to such symptoms. Hence, the above mentioned conditions should be ruled out by physical examinations, thyroid profile and other blood tests.
Avatar m tn i was diagnosed with sleep apnea after sleep studies was done and i do not snore at all but i do snort from it

I have a nose cup on my face at night. But at times I feel a need to cough at 1st. Like something is tickling the back of my oesophagus. Feels like a hair but I can't spit it out and it's always their when I put the mask back on. Then when I wake my lungs hurt like Im getting an infection in them.
Avatar m tn By the way, I'll just guess there's a forum for Sleep Apnea here on MedHelp, but before I found this place, I found a lot of information at www.cpaptalk.com . Best wishes.

Avatar f tn t sleep at night till 3 a.m.. We think I have sleep apnea I did have a test to check for it but we do not know the reslults yet. I do wake up in the mornings with blue around my mouth. Does this sound like sleep apnea to you? Do you have any idea of anything I could do to help me sleep at night so I don't have to do deal with the pain when I am supposed to be sleeping?
Avatar m tn What did your sleep study show? Has sleep apnea been ruled out?
Avatar f tn Hi there i suffer from sleep apnea they found i had it through a sleep study my family Doctor sent me for it maybe you could do that...... good luck..............
568603 tn?1240404035 Hi, I have sleep apnea and can give you a little information. The more you know the less you will worry. Machines come set between 4 and 20. However, most people need at least 7-8 cm h2o to be able to breathe without feeling like they are suffocating. The number of the pressure prescription doesn't have anything to do with the severity of your sleep apnea.
Avatar f tn s been using one for 15 years now and there is no more snoring or sleep apnea. Sounds like you had a sleep study done?
Avatar f tn Researchers evaluated 98 pacemaker patients for sleep apnea. Fifty-nine percent of the patients had undiagnosed sleep apnea and they suffer from sleep disorders. But there is no good research done for sleep apnea in pacemakers users. Also sleep apnea can also be associated with restless leg syndrome, Obesity and upper airway soft tissue abnormalities etc.
Avatar f tn Snoring does often accompany sleep apnea, but just because you snore does not mean you have sleep apnea and vice versa. Minor sleep apnea is responsive to self-help remedies such as losing weight, eliminating the use of alcohol, tobacco, and sedatives; sleeping on your side, and regularizing your sleep hours. It would be best to see a sleep specialist for proper management and to ease your worries. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure about the seeing things, but your heart rate being up could be linked to why you feel scared. And it could possibly be sleep apnea. Waking up frequently may also be a sign of sleep apnea, though one does not have to do this in order to have it. A reason you may be waking up could be because your brain is realizing that you are not getting enough oxygen, and this causes you to wake up. Your heart rate being up could also be due to lack of oxygen.
559187 tn?1330782856 Near the very beginning of this forum someone posted a study showing that sleep apnea was far more common in MS than in the general population. We already know that MS causes many types of sleep disruption. I would expect to see central sleep apnea, and weakness or spasm of breathing muscles could cause other types. Also, pain meds and other sedatives can suppress the breathing drive. Maybe someone can find us some scientific data on this again.
Avatar m tn Larger studies in neurological diseases that produce focal lesions in these brain areas could provide useful information on the PLM pathogenesis. Major causes of the Hypersomnias are Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), Central Sleep Apnea (CSA) (apnea meaning breathing pause) and Narcolepsy. All of these can be operative in Multiple Sclerosis, the most common being OSA which is the leading cause of Excessive Daytime Sleepiness in the vast majority of people with or without a concurrent disease.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I had 75% O2 on a sleep study with a central apnea. I have 1/10 the normal stage 3 sleep at 0.5% and mixed apnea and can't sleep through the night on my asv. THanks very much!
Avatar n tn I am trying to find a link to med given to me by the military that may have caused sleep apnea. a friend said he read that some of the shots given to us before we went to the persian gulf could cause sleep apnea.
Avatar f tn Thanks for responding. Yes I had sleep study done and I had mild Sleep Apnea. However the machine is not helping me at all.
1580703 tn?1651904887 m getting 0% stage 3/4 sleep. What caused my sleep apnea, memory/ADD problem and what can I possibly do? Thanks so much!
1580703 tn?1651904887 I am not sure from your description whether you have central sleep apnea (CSA) or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) or perhaps both. UPPP surgery is generally useful for OSA. CPAP is useful for both OSA and CSA. For CSA it is hypothesized that if sleep continuity can be preserved, sleep disordered breathing could be improved. There is some evidence that clonazepam helps when there is CSA present along with periodic leg movements (which you have described).
Avatar f tn Additionally, opening up your nose will help, but don't count on it helping to cure your sleep-breathing condition. (It's been shown to cure sleep apnea in about only 10% of the time.) The benefit to a septoplasty (and turbinoplasty) is that you'll breathe better through your nose in general, and it'll allow you to use treatment options (CPAP or dental devices) much more effectively. Lasers are a very old technology and is rarely used anymore with this type of procedure.
886699 tn?1270779744 m surprised they diagnosed you with CFS on top of sleep apnea; sleep apnea is one of the diagnoses of exclusion listed for CFS. Which is to say, sleep apnea is one of the diagnoses that are supposed to be ruled out in cases of chronic fatigue (the symptom) before CFS (the syndrome) is diagnosed. I suppose that doesn't apply in cases where the sleep apnea is being treated and the chronic fatigue still persists?
Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and i been having sleep apnea about 13yrs. now i been on a c-pap machine for a long time now. i just found out that i have autonomic neuropathy.could this be why my legs are hurting at night. could sleep apnea have cause this.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I started clonezepam for my sleep apnea, I twitch all the time in my leg/arm before I fall asleep and I seem to have slept well even without bipap once I felt this urge to write something and I started twitching like I had a seizure for a few minutes
