Common Questions and Answers about Sleep apnea fatigue

Avatar f tn Hi, My husband has sleep apnea and had these symptoms. He's not overweight or a smoker but the brochure the doc gave us said that both of those are risk factors, and since your boyfriend has them it might be worth getting checked out. Sleep apnea can put people at an increased risk for heart attacks and strokes, besides which it just ***** to be sleepy all the time and have daily headaches.
3227684 tn?1347373065 Certain sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea can cause disturbed sleep and hence the need to sleep more and morning fatigue. And others like narcolepsy can cause excessive sleepiness per say. If it persists or is troublesome consult your doctor for assessment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Just recently I have been given a sleep study and I had very little REM and many sleep apnea episodes, My Pulmonologist has ordered another sleep study using C-pap. I am hoping that my side effcts are actually symptoms of sleep apnea.
Avatar f tn Hi, Dr Carolyn Dean talks about sleep apnea and Magnesium supplementation . If you google : Magnesium and sleep Apnea. I have family members who also refuses to use CPAP, so they are trying Mg instead. Still at the starting stage. But what I could tell you is that snoring is definitely less.. :) Sleep apnea causes high BP, memory loss, headaches, poor concentration, fatigue and so many more.. So I'd say, give Mg Glycinate a try..
1584208 tn?1296713101 It can be that you don't rest good even you sleep. And that cant be for several reasons, going late to sleep and waking up late morning for exemple.
Avatar m tn He said from all the tests peformed, and reviewing my medical records, I developed sleep apnea, due to my enlarged thyroid obstructing my airway while I sleep. He is 100% sure, this is causing my chronic fatigue. He scheduled a sleep test with my primary, only problem is my primary never schedules appointments by other doctors.
886699 tn?1270779744 m surprised they diagnosed you with CFS on top of sleep apnea; sleep apnea is one of the diagnoses of exclusion listed for CFS. Which is to say, sleep apnea is one of the diagnoses that are supposed to be ruled out in cases of chronic fatigue (the symptom) before CFS (the syndrome) is diagnosed. I suppose that doesn't apply in cases where the sleep apnea is being treated and the chronic fatigue still persists?
529159 tn?1224991026 Hi everyone. Has anyone heard of a connection between having Fibro and sleep apnea? I know we Fibro folks suffer from sleep disturbances but this is the first time I've had a doctor apply the apnea to Fibro. Out of much frustration over my extreme fatigue, my rheumatologist referred me to a pulmonary specialist to do a sleep study. He said something I found interesting and had never heard before.
956292 tn?1334054869 Anyone else ever go through this for fatigue with MS He said this will determine if I have sleep apnea or if he can discuss medication for fatigue JibJen
956292 tn?1334054869 m thinking more clearly and the fatigue is better with the Provigil and the other medicine to help me get a deeper sleep. MS and other brain diseases can cause sleep disorders including sleep apnea. I would highly recommend a visit to the sleep disorder clinic for the sleep study if your insurance pays the cost (highly costly).
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with central sleep apnea, with about 26 brain awakenings per hr, no REM, and numerous breathing stops of 30 seconds or more during several sleep studies. (I also had several instances of obstructive sleep apnea incidents during various sleep studies.) It's probably no wonder that I also have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, as well as chronic myofascial pain syndrome and degenerative disc disease.
3052618 tn?1344105035 I had a sleep study last night, to rule out sleep apnea. I don't have the full report yet (He said my doctor should get it Wednesday). He did however tell me a few of the things he saw on it.. but he didn't explain them. He said that he saw intrusions in my brain waves or something. And that parts of my brain were active that weren't supposed to be (I'm guessing while asleep, surely not while I'm awake as well).
Avatar f tn I agree with the other post. Extreme fatigue and morning headaches are both symptoms of sleep apnea. People often believe that you have to be one of the following to have apnea: a man, a another, a person middle-aged or older, overweight. In fact, there is a correlation with all of those things and the liklihood of apnea. However, you do not have to fit into that box to have apnea.
Avatar n tn Considering your symptoms of wakefulness after sleep, it is most likely that you may be having Obstructive Sleep Apnea. When a person sleeps the airways are usually patent allowing normal passage for air entry. The upper airway that is at the region of the tongue and the soft palate is the most compliant (soft) part. So, this is liable to collapse and cause airway obstruction.
Avatar m tn I know sleep apnea can cause anxiety and panic attacks. But can anxiety cause sleep apnea? I have a ventricular aneurysm and PVCs my doctors say are normal. I'm not overweight, I don't drink, not on meds. I've been waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air.
Avatar n tn Someetimes there are other health issues with the lungs that affect the oxygen levels and require adding oxygen to the cpap if determined there is a need. Sleep apnea certainly can cause daytime fatigue. In many cases, therapeutic cpap treatment restores one to health and vitality. In some, damage can have occured. If any doubt, a cardiac workup wouldn't hurt.
Avatar f tn I have literally been falling asleep while driving to work in the mornings (AFTER 2 lg coffees),having to take a nap at lunch (I only did this one other time 6 years ago bf I knew I had sleep apnea, which the dr and I feel is resolved now since losing 90 pounds). I feel better at times, like while working, but as soon as I'm just sitting I'm ready to pass out.
Avatar m tn re experiencing a lot of fatigue, the purpose of the study could be to help determine if the problem is due to sleep apnea or true MS fatigue. Only way to know for sure though, is to ask him/her why they ordered it.
1580703 tn?1651904887 m getting 0% stage 3/4 sleep. What caused my sleep apnea, memory/ADD problem and what can I possibly do? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn This keeps alternating and the person may not actually wake up all the time, but these repeated arousals can disturb the sleep architecture and cause fatigue, headaches and daytime sleepiness. These people are also more prone for Hypertension. Obstructive Sleep Apnea is more common in people who snore.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea a few months ago (I had many many hypopneas rather than central or obstructive apneas). However, I'm confused as to how this is possible if my oxygen and co2 levels stayed within the normal range??
Avatar f tn Then you also need to investigate other causes of brain fog like liver dysfunction (get liver enzymes done—liver function test), kidney dysfunction (get kidney function test done), and anemia. Poor sleep pattern and sleep problems like sleep apnea too can cause brain fog. Sleep studies by sleep specialists can help diagnose this.Low Vit D or Vit B12 too could be the cause.
1753162 tn?1317278184 t feel there are any sleep issues such as sleep apnea or RLS or anything like that. So, I have to keep a sleep diary for 2 weeks and go back to see him. He said then we'll maybe try Nuvigil to see if we can keep me awake and maybe sleep "normal" hours lol Since I've tried sleeping pills on and off over the years and always end up back to my 4am or so sleep thing. So, with that said anyone have any input on Nuvigil if he decides to put me on it?
1054090 tn?1343965695 If you do have sleep apnea, the treatment is that you will sleep with a CPAP machine. It stands for Continuos Positive Air Pressure. You wear a mask that blows air down your passages to keep them from closing when you sleep. Cause when they close is when you stop breathing. Id it is determined you have sleep apnea it is vital that you wear the cpap eveytime!! You can die from sleep apnea just as easily as a baby can die from sids.
500453 tn?1210676097 I had known for over 20 years that I have apnea just from my own observation. Well, apnea side effects include fatigue and depression. A sleep study proved apnea and I've been on CPAP ever since. My fatigue has not resolved, but my MD recently ran tests that show a vitamin B-12 and testosterone deficiency. Once I begin getting my injections, I hope the fatigue will resolve. Good luck and I hope it's something simple.
