Avatar m tn So, you could have obstructive sleep apnea and this is diagnosed with a sleep study. As you wait for your evaluation, you could avoid taking alcohol and quit smoking and try to sleep on your side as this keeps the airways patent. If any nasal blocks try to keep them patent with OTC nasal decongestants. And aim for optimum weight with exercises or long walks. Good Luck. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and received one of those machines. Shortly afterwards I lost my insurance so I no longer can afford to go to the clinic. I was told I awake 120x a minute and snore so loudly the walls move inward and outward (nurse agreed with my wife). It went well for about 2-3 weeks when I realized I was removing my tube in my sleep. This went on for awhile till I was let go from my job and no longer had insurance. I could no longer afford to deal with the clinic.
600561 tn?1326845621 I have just visited a prosthodontist concerning a device recommended for mild sleep apnea patients instead of the CPAP machine. Medicare will be billed $800 + and I will pay $4-500 for things insurance will not cover. ON THE OTHER HAND: www.snorerx.com/stopsnoring looks very, very , very much like the device mentioned above that I am NOT going to have Medicare billed for. Why not invest $100 and try it instead of draining Medicare and spending much more myself? I have mild (5.
Avatar f tn Additionally, opening up your nose will help, but don't count on it helping to cure your sleep-breathing condition. (It's been shown to cure sleep apnea in about only 10% of the time.) The benefit to a septoplasty (and turbinoplasty) is that you'll breathe better through your nose in general, and it'll allow you to use treatment options (CPAP or dental devices) much more effectively. Lasers are a very old technology and is rarely used anymore with this type of procedure.
Avatar n tn Seeing a sleep specialist may be a really good idea. You could have some sort of apnea or something that is kicking in your tachycardia at night. At least you would know one way or another. Good luck.
539750 tn?1226521677 Hi, from your history it suggests that you are having Sleep-disordered breathing. It is important to rule out type of sleep apnea like Obstructive apnea, Central apnea and Mixed apnea. You need to undergo tests to rule out the type of apnea. Few of the tests include Apnea index, Apnea-hypopnea index, Respiratory disturbance index, Desaturation and Arousal index.
Avatar f tn It does sound like sleep apnea to me and I would suggest you make an appointment to see a sleep doctor to have a sleep study done. I believe you will end up having to use a CPAP machine so you can finally get a good nights sleep. I hope you have the study done so you can get to feeling back to normal.
Avatar m tn As mentioned above, it could be due to Obstructive Sleep Apnea. When a person sleeps the airways are usually patent allowing normal passage for air entry. The upper airway that is at the region of the tongue and the soft palate is the most compliant (soft) part. So, this is liable to collapse and cause airway obstruction. As the air way collapses the lungs do not have air entry leading to deoxygenation (decreased oxygen) of blood and the person wakes up.
2215996 tn?1341212757 Excessive daytime sleepiness can occur, due to inadequate sleep at night due to sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea. Hope you are on CPAP, ensure to use the CPAP machine regularly. Go for regular follow ups with your doctor to check to see if the apneas are under control and if your sleep is adequate. If in spite of this Excessive daytime sleepiness persists then other disorders like narcolepsy need to be considered. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn If this always happens as you are going to sleep and/or wakes you up from sleep, my first thought would be sleep apnea. Before I was diagnosed and began using a CPAP, I had become very afraid to sleep, and avoided it till I collapsed in exhaustion. Much of what you describe is what I experienced. Since I got my CPAP working well for me I have not had one episode of the sense of choking or difficulty breathing.
Avatar m tn I would get with my doctor and ask for a sleep study. It could be a lot of things. The first thing that pops to mind when someone says they stop breathing at night is sleep apnea, but your description doesn't really sound like sleep apnea. A sleep study would be the first thing I would try. Good luck!
Avatar n tn i felt much better for a few weeks but then i began to feel terrible. It appears to have exacerbated my sleep apnea terribly, and moods are up and down. I have been slowly trying to wean from it but I wonder if i will ever get back to producing T normally. Weaning seems to be really tough, i've been very tired, a lot of back pain, and other symptoms. Is there anything I can do to help these symptoms?
Avatar n tn Are you doing your regular stretches/exercises? Yes be sure, this kind of episode is not going to harm you but the sleep disturbance can be troublesome. Still you need to focus more on overcoming the stress and be patient so that it stops altogether. A change in place or a short outing like on weekends with family or friends will be beneficial. Physical therapy /massages also seemed to help. Avoiding late night sleeps, excessive coffee and smoking at hour of sleep is important.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you are suffering from Sleep Apnea. Waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air is from not breathing. Go for a sleep study to confirm this and if it turns out to be true you will just have to sleep with a machine.
Avatar f tn Snoring does often accompany sleep apnea, but just because you snore does not mean you have sleep apnea and vice versa. Minor sleep apnea is responsive to self-help remedies such as losing weight, eliminating the use of alcohol, tobacco, and sedatives; sleeping on your side, and regularizing your sleep hours. It would be best to see a sleep specialist for proper management and to ease your worries. Take care and keep us posted.
1486435 tn?1316470899 Hi sounds to me you have Sleep Apnea you may have to have a CPAP Machine..Please ask your Doctor to send you for a Sleep Study that will tell you everything.....Take Care.........
Avatar n tn I'm not sure about the seeing things, but your heart rate being up could be linked to why you feel scared. And it could possibly be sleep apnea. Waking up frequently may also be a sign of sleep apnea, though one does not have to do this in order to have it. A reason you may be waking up could be because your brain is realizing that you are not getting enough oxygen, and this causes you to wake up. Your heart rate being up could also be due to lack of oxygen.
Avatar n tn Accidentally while checking for something else, I was Dx this week with sleep apnea. Now I wonder if my breathing patterns changed about the time of surgery, and the changes show up as SOB and apnea. This concerns me because it could be a neuro deficit after surgery. What do you think? Have you heard of sleep apnea after OHS? What have you been told about why you have SOB for so long? I'll hope for a reply--Thanks.
Avatar n tn I am trying to find a link to med given to me by the military that may have caused sleep apnea. a friend said he read that some of the shots given to us before we went to the persian gulf could cause sleep apnea.
Avatar f tn I've been reading about both atrial and sleep apnea; I have both problems. I've thought that the atrial fib was caused by the sleep apnea, but I read today that it could be the other way around. Can you clarify this for me? I'm an active person (exercise every day), but I need to lose about 80 lbs. I understand that the weight problem probably caused both problems. However, two days ago, I exercised and did yard work in high heat and humidity for about 4 hours.
