skin

Avatar n tn immediately stopped taking the vitamin and the rash has not increased....can Vitamin D be causing this kind of rash? could I have a recurrence of pityriasis rosea?
Avatar f tn This is fat soluble vitamin which is stored in the liver. Going out in the sunshine with exposed skin will also top you up with Vitamin D. It is too complex for me to explain how it is converted through sunshine on our skin. This vitamin is also referred to as the Sunshine Vitamin.
5143317 tn?1383751420 I had my vitamin d tested about 2 months ago and my level was 36ng/l with a range of 30-100. I've been having crazy hypothyroid like symptoms for months. Weight gain, inability to lose weight, depression, mood swings, inability to control my emotions, low sex drive, dry skin, not sleeping good, etc. Could the low end vitamin D be causing the symptoms? I've had cortisol, various hormones and all thyroid tests, everything is normal.
Avatar f tn As it is a fat soluble vitamin, hypervitaminosis can occur, the symptoms of which are, vomiting, polyuria (frequent urination), weight loss, poor appetite, constipation, weakness, heart rhythm abnormalities and kidney stones Treatment of vitamin D toxicity includes stopping vitamin D supplements and restricting calcium intake, as well as taking medication. But it is unlikely in your case, as you have a deficiency of the vitamin. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I take a vitamin d supplement as well!..it's a no name brand, as long as you're taking one you'll be fine!
Avatar f tn Mushrooms, portabella, shiitake (that are exposed to UV light), Alfaalfa, Lichens, Catfish, salmons, eels, tuna, sardines also contain few amounts that provide natural sources for Vit D. The main symptoms of vitamin D overdose are those of hypercalcemia: anorexia, nausea, and vomiting can occur, frequently followed by polyuria, polydipsia, weakness, insomnia, nervousness, pruritus, and, ultimately, renal failure.
Avatar m tn It is important therefore to have a healthy diet (you will find info on the web with regard to the foods that contain Vitamin D, but this is also got through your skin being exposed to sunshine). This is the only Vitamin that your body makes from sunshine on the skin. It is a fat soluble vitamin and is stored in the liver. There is no point in worrying.
Avatar f tn I drink milk, go in the sun (skin gets red very fast) and eat other foods that contain it and have no problem, but I recently was told by my doctor that I have a vitamin D deficiency. She wants me to start taking vitamin D3 in a 2300 dose. My question is, is it possible to have an allergy to this vitamin even though I eat foods that contain it? Will this high level of vitamin D affect me in a negative way? I'm a little anxious about taking it.
Avatar f tn If you are darkere skin or tan easily then you have a bigger resitance to obsorbing Vitamin D from the sun. There are a lot of factors so if you can get your levels checked.
Avatar f tn sorry the vitamin D therapy isn't the cure for acne like I had made it out to be before. But vitamin D is a very critical nutrient you need in your diet if you are not getting it on a regular basis from the sun. And I still think that it does play a role in helping your acne get better. I cut out milk and cheese and I always protect myself from the sun so I will be using vitamin D supplementation regularly no matter what. It can lead to wide variety of diseases.

Avatar f tn Hi honey...today on our new here in Canada there was a big story about the alarming amount of children that are being diagnosed with MS in comparison to a few years ago. The research people believe that any children living in the northern hemisphere is at risk of being diagnosed with MS if they are tested for a Vitamin D level and found to be lacking Vitamin D.
1134609 tn?1269275800 I've been unstable for the past few weeks. Anyway, I have a friend who takes 50,000 IU of vitamin D, on his doctor's orders. I have been doing research into the subject and it's had me wondering. I generally take 2,000 IUs of Vitamin D a day, but I hammered back 10,000 IUs this morning; it totally turned my mood around. It was the strangest thing; it was totally overcast, my mood is normally in the toilet on days like these, but supplementing with big doses of vitamin D pulled me out of it..
1515564 tn?1431386900 Have any of you had your vitamin D levels tested? I had mine tested last year, shortly after all of this started. It was low, so I started to take a supplement. That was around the time that I started to see a lot of improvement, so I thought that maybe it was helping. Have any of you been tested/ tried supplementing with Vitamin D?

972284 tn?1247909074 I'm also extremely sensitive to the sun and unable to get the amount of sun exposure needed to optimize my vitamin D levels. I learned recently from the Vitamin D Council's newsletter that magnesium is necessary to synthesize vitamin D. I have seen a lot of information on the forum about how we need to supplement our magnesium as a treatment for FMS/CFS. And, most of us have had to deal with vitamin D deficiencies or imbalances.
Avatar m tn I was ordered to take vitamin D by my doctor; the test is ‘vitamin D 25-hydroxy. I was significantly deficient, and now take 2000 IU daily; the cost is roughly $.08/day :o).
Avatar m tn One of the problems with a modern lifestyle is that most of us don't get enough exposure to sunlight to produce normal limits of vitamin D. It is produced when the skin surface is exposed to sunlight and is an important vitamin for emotional health and immunity. In this case a vitamin D3 supplement is useful. Lately I make a habit of getting no less that 45 minutes a day of sunlight exposure, at least fifteen minutes with my shirt off, and it has really improved my outlook.
Avatar f tn Hi If you have been feeling extremely tired and feel like you have one foot already in the grave then you need to keep looking to find a doctor or Internist that will run a complete blood panel and this will end up being 6 vials of blood and a 4 page report. My vit D, vit B12 my femal hormone level was all low. After getting supplemented for 4 months I was still feeling tired but not as bad but not where I wanted to be.
Avatar f tn I wanted to start taking an extra vitamin supplement of vitamin D to help with my acne, since my hormones have my skin freaking out.. Anyone know if this is safe?
1550026 tn?1299339682 All I can say is, I've stayed out of the sun because of skin cancer, yet I get thyroid cancer. Now, my body needs Vitamin D to help absorb all the calcium I'm now taking. I should be exhausted from the surgery and am wondering if it is the proactive approach of taking Vitamin D and calcium both prior to and after my surgery? Your post gives credibility to my suspicions.
11079760 tn?1483389730 I've never heard that vitamin D is beneficial to hair and skin. I would ask a doctor or pharmacist about it. I noticed you say you were prescribed vitamin D2. Any idea why? I ask because I believe it's been established that D3 is more effective in raising serum level of D. Just curious.
Avatar n tn Vitamin D is also known as sunshine vitamin because it has direct relationship to sunlight. It is an essential, fat-soluble vitamin responsible for a variety of body functions. The inadequate levels of the vitamin leads to type 2 diabetes, can cause itchiness. Many patient with Vitamin D deficiency are advised to have direct sunlight for 15 minutes, 3 days a week and doctors recommend you, not to use sunscreen. This may lead to itchiness on your skin.
Avatar m tn Hi, Just found out I have a vitamin d deficiency. Went to the doctor with thes symptoms fatigue weight gain painful joints vison problems hair loss problems sleeping numbness in hands md sent me to a ruhmetolagist, that checked ana and other auto ammune problems and the only thing that came back was low vitamin d (12).
Avatar f tn Very few foods contain Vitamin D. The body synthesizes vitamin D in the skin through exposure to sunlight. Ask your doctor to take a blood test to determine your levels of vitamin D3. I am not a happy camper with people who take supplements without labs. The test is inexpensive. Normal levels are 30 or above. The best thing, if your levels are low, is to take D3 vitamin supplements. Ask your doctor about how much to take and how often.
454966 tn?1225162361 It is actually people with very white skin that get Vitamin D more quickly from the sun. For more accurate dosages I would read the book "Vitamin D Cure" I highly recommend it.
1039061 tn?1257881894 Observational studies found risk of breast, colon, and rectal cancer falls as vitamin D blood levels rise to over 40 ng/mL (100 nmol/L). Vitamin D council recommend a vitamin D level (25-hydroxyvitamin D) of 50 - 80 ng/mL (125 - 200 nmol/L). Supplement wise, look for vitamin D3. The most important co factors for vitamin D absorption are magnesium (most important), vitamin K, zinc, boron.
