Common Questions and Answers about Skin vitamin d

skin

Avatar f tn This is fat soluble vitamin which is stored in the liver. Going out in the sunshine with exposed skin will also top you up with Vitamin D. It is too complex for me to explain how it is converted through sunshine on our skin. This vitamin is also referred to as the Sunshine Vitamin.
5143317 tn?1383747820 I had my vitamin d tested about 2 months ago and my level was 36ng/l with a range of 30-100. I've been having crazy hypothyroid like symptoms for months. Weight gain, inability to lose weight, depression, mood swings, inability to control my emotions, low sex drive, dry skin, not sleeping good, etc. Could the low end vitamin D be causing the symptoms? I've had cortisol, various hormones and all thyroid tests, everything is normal.
Avatar f tn I take a vitamin d supplement as well!..it's a no name brand, as long as you're taking one you'll be fine!
Avatar f tn I drink milk, go in the sun (skin gets red very fast) and eat other foods that contain it and have no problem, but I recently was told by my doctor that I have a vitamin D deficiency. She wants me to start taking vitamin D3 in a 2300 dose. My question is, is it possible to have an allergy to this vitamin even though I eat foods that contain it? Will this high level of vitamin D affect me in a negative way? I'm a little anxious about taking it.
Avatar f tn If you are darkere skin or tan easily then you have a bigger resitance to obsorbing Vitamin D from the sun. There are a lot of factors so if you can get your levels checked.
11079760 tn?1483386130 I've never heard that vitamin D is beneficial to hair and skin. I would ask a doctor or pharmacist about it. I noticed you say you were prescribed vitamin D2. Any idea why? I ask because I believe it's been established that D3 is more effective in raising serum level of D. Just curious.
Avatar f tn * Lack of sunlight * Everyone who lives more than 35 degrees latitude north or south of the equator is at risk of vitamin D deficiency in the winter months * Dark or black skin needs up to 10 times the amount of sun than light skin to absorb vitamin D in their skin * Wearing sunscreen - prevents absorption of UVB rays that create vitamin D * Lack of vitamin D co-factors - magnesium (most important co factor), zinc, vitamin K2, boron, and a tiny amount of vitamin A * Magnesium and calc
Avatar n tn immediately stopped taking the vitamin and the rash has not increased....can Vitamin D be causing this kind of rash? could I have a recurrence of pityriasis rosea?
Avatar f tn I wanted to start taking an extra vitamin supplement of vitamin D to help with my acne, since my hormones have my skin freaking out.. Anyone know if this is safe?
Avatar f tn Is vitamin D that important? Now I'm on 2 meds per day for vitamin D also I take calcium can low levels cause more pain for fibromyalgia patients?
Avatar f tn OK, now I'm really confused. I've been taking Calcium with 800 ius vitamin D daily. I decided to up my intake of D in preparation for upcoming treatment. So I started adding another 1000 iu's. Of course, lazy me, I did this without checking my levels but I figured if everyone is so low I must be as well. Today I hear that we are taking too much vitamin D and it is not healthy. They also are thinking of lowering the bottom of the normal range from 30 to 20. What is everyone doing?
1515564 tn?1431383300 Have any of you had your vitamin D levels tested? I had mine tested last year, shortly after all of this started. It was low, so I started to take a supplement. That was around the time that I started to see a lot of improvement, so I thought that maybe it was helping. Have any of you been tested/ tried supplementing with Vitamin D?
Avatar f tn If I have no symptoms? What symptoms would those be?
29837 tn?1414534648 My doctor insists I stay on a supplement of 800mg daily, even though I take a daily multiple vitamin with 400mg Vitamin D. This brings it up to 1200mg daily. Research has shown it helps the body in many ways. However, be careful of too much Vitamin D. Below is a snippet from the informative link... 1550026 tn?1299336082 ve stayed out of the sun because of skin cancer, yet I get thyroid cancer. Now, my body needs Vitamin D to help absorb all the calcium I'm now taking. I should be exhausted from the surgery and am wondering if it is the proactive approach of taking Vitamin D and calcium both prior to and after my surgery? Your post gives credibility to my suspicions.
Avatar f tn So, the rheumatologist called today and said that I have vitamin D deficiency. I didn't get the numbers but they gave me a prescription for a vitamin d supplement to take 1 x /week for 12 weeks? What does this mean? I didn't get to talk to the dr! Thanks!!!!
Avatar m tn Would you please let me know the recommended daily dosage of Vitamin D? I read that FDA recommends 800 UI but I heard people take 10,000 UI daily and your body can create upto 25,000 UI a day due to sun exposure. Please advise.
Avatar f tn The nurse called me next day and told me my vitamin d level was a 7 and very low. She said calcium was okay. I was prescribed prescription strength vitamin d 50,000 units once per week for 6 weeks. But I have severe anxiety of taking pills. Since its a capsule with gel inside I cant even crush it and there is no tablet form of this medicine. Is there another way to overcome this vitamin deficiency without having to take pills? If I leave it untreated, are the health risks minimal?
