Common Questions and Answers about Skin rashes and lupus

Avatar f tn MILK OF MAGNESIA is what my daughter's skin teacher uses for her lupus rashes. She gets them all over her face, neck and body, as does her little brother (3 people in her family have Lupus). The Milk of Magnesia tames the redness. I haven't tried it yet, as I only have a slight "blush" on my face. So I don't worry about it. But give it a try and let us know what you get from it.
Avatar f tn hi, my mum has lupus and she uses a special moisturizin cream u get off the doctor for her dry skin.
Avatar f tn I have been feeling better however after recieving the antibiotics beginning with amoxacillin, I have been getting red blochy rashes on my neck, chest, back, and biceps. My rash does not itch but does feel very hot. Most importantly my rash will appear for no longer then 10 minutes and then dissapear. Hours or so later it will come back in the same spot with minimal if any swelling. I was wondering if any of you guys/girls could help me out. Thanks.
Avatar n tn It is best to get him seen by a dermatologist. A complete history about the appearance of rashes, their progress and a clinical examination will help in determining the cause of your symptoms. I sincerely hope it helps. Best wishes!
4403156 tn?1354193453 I have been searching and searching and searching on the internet, and my doctor has (very gently) stated that this is a 'mystery' (as we wait for diagnosis..I think she is just hesitant to diagnose Lupus without first involving the Dermatologist and Internist...makes sense), but I am open to any viable possibilities here...even if it gives me something to research as I wait.

Avatar f tn my hands and feet have been going numb and tingling on and off for months. i break out in skin rashes daily but i assume this is only my allergies. my exboyfriend who has lupus suspects i may have it as well. does anyone know what other disorders could be causing these symptoms?
Avatar f tn I have all kind of rashes on my face! I have always had flawless skin and I have developed all kinds of sores and things on my face!!! I am VERY self conscious about it!!!!
Avatar f tn Hello, I don't have insurance, so when my rash started up two months ago, I was desperately searching the internet for some answers in hopes of avoiding high dermatology fees. I started using a 10% benzoyl peroxide gel and a 2% salicylic acid wash on my face when my acne started flaring up again, and it was causing my skin to dry out, so I was scrubbing my face almost daily.
Avatar n tn Does anyone have problems with recurring skin rashes on their face? Prior to being diagnosed with Hashimoto's, my face and body developed hives. I used to think it was the make-up I was wearing but in switching brands serveral times, the hives were still appearing. After being treated with Armour, I've been able to wear make-up for 6 months until just a few days ago when my face started getting hives. (I've had some hives on my body that have been there for 10 months.
Avatar n tn Hi i'm 24 and i've been diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE or Lupus) three years ago in the begining it mainly affected my kidney function but recently i've started losing my hair and also i've noticed circular 2-3 mm in width patches appearing on my right index finger. At first only one appeared but now it has spread to my thumb! Its quite red to look at and painful to touch!
Avatar m tn Anyway, immediately after, I looked in the mirror and saw that my face had red itchy burning patches of skin on my cheekbones and around my eyes. I thought it was probably something my skin was sensitive to, or it had become inflammed from throwing up and took some benedryl. The rash has since hung around and only goes away for a day or two, if I apply cortisone. I've been to dermatology, had a patch test done and found my skin is indeed sensitive to some items.
Avatar n tn If you have lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus, or SLE), you may be extremely tired, have skin rashes, or have joint pain. If the disease is more serious, you may have problems with your kidneys, heart, lungs, blood, or nervous system. Lupus symptoms depend on what body organs are affected and how seriously they are affected. Fatigue: Nearly all people with lupus have mild to extreme fatigue. Even mild cases of lupus cause an inability to engage in daily activities and exercise.
Avatar n tn If she is diagnosed with the disease, her doctor might start her on nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen this is appropriate for patients with non-life threatening symptoms such as joint pain, muscle pain, fatigue, and skin rashes. More aggressive treatment which may include high dose corticosteroids or immunosuppressive drugs is used when there are severe organ complications. The benefits and risks of treatment must be weighed by her Rheumatologist. Take care!
1550149 tn?1340004330 An exception is discoid lupus, which consists of spots or patches of rash, mostly in sun exposed areas (face, ears, extremities), which typically cause scarring and skin pigment changes. The appearance of scleroderma and discoid lupus are entirely different, and should be easily distinguished from one another by your physician.
Avatar n tn What are the symptoms and signs of lupus? In discoid lupus, only the skin is typically involved. The skin rash in discoid lupus often is found on the face and scalp. It usually is red and may have raised borders. Discoid lupus rashes are usually painless and do not itch, but scarring can cause permanent hair loss. Over time, 5%-10% of patients with discoid lupus may develop SLE. Patients with SLE can develop different combinations of symptoms and organ involvement.
1550149 tn?1340004330 Skin Changes in People with Systemic Lupus Introduction Changes of the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes are very common in people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), occurring in 85 percent of patients. In most of them, these abnormalities are not severe and are easily treated with corticosteroids (prednisone) or antimalarial drugs (hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine).
Avatar f tn Even using these criteria, only 10% of patients with antoimmune hepatitis fulfilled the American College of Rhematolgy criteria for lupus. Many of the physical findings we associate with SLE (rashes and other organ involvement) are usually absent. About 30-60% of those with autoimmune hepatitis also have antibodies to smooth muscle or mitochondria (AMA or SMA). Autoimmune hepatis usually responds to steroids, alpha-interferon and azathioprine.
Avatar f tn The main or most common symptoms are fatigue, joint pain and swelling, skin rashes and low grade fever. Some with lupus have more serious compliecations that have to do with heart, lungs, etc., but many do not. If you tell me a bit more about your story, I could tell you more (which meds, etc). Please know that if you are Dxd with lupus - it is not a death sentence. There are some life modifications that need to be made, however, many people live to normal life span.
Avatar f tn I still have not found a doctor who thinks I have lupus since I don't have the skin rashes. 90% of the lupus people have skin rash, so if you're one of those 10% who don't, like me, they probably won't diagnose you with lupus. And the doctors don't seem to care about you if you don't have the typical rash thing. What bugs me, is I was on plaquenil for 2 years, and it did wonders for me. My joints were not as bad and my fatigue was not as bad either.
Avatar f tn so, even with the negative ana, she went ahead and ran the anti-dna and compliment tests and some others. i have not received the results yet. how long does it take for those tests anyway, just curious? i had this done on aug 2nd, along with her prescribing me the prednisone. she said that i have severe photosensitivity. she told me i have to avoid the sun as much as possible, plus with her putting me on prednisone (which causes photosensitivity) i have to completely avoid it.
1224706 tn?1267223743 I have been told by so many others that these symptoms sound akin to the Lupus family and that the problems with my mouth and eyes sound like Sojrens syndrome. I think I spelled that right, not sure. Can someone PLEASE help guide me in the right direction with all this ?. Maybe someone out there is experienceing the same things. Either way, PLEASE HELP !
434278 tn?1324709825 From what I've read, a dermatologist is able to do a biopsy of the skin involvement in lupus and dx lupus that way. Did your dermatologist do that back in 1996? I know how frustrating it is to be as sick as you are and get the run around from your doctors. Keep positive and try not to get discouraged. If you feel brushed off by a dr., try another one. Drs. don't rush into dxing people w/ major autoimmune diseases. There are certain criteria for dxing lupus. Become familiar w/ them.
Avatar f tn episodes should I see a rheumotologist to see if this is Lupus or should I stay with the neuro and pursue the MS option. I was tested for Lupus and the ANA and SED rate came back high just not high enough that was last year. THank you for your time.
Avatar f tn Since you had a rash that was biopsied to be lupus, it is likely that these rashes are also skin lupus. Along with this you could be having systemic lupus. The possibility of lupus affecting blood vessels and causing vasculitis or their inflammation is also possible.
Avatar f tn I have already had the rash on my forehead biopsied and they found it was skin lupus. The past year I have been suffering for alot of aches and pains plus fatigue. My ANA read positive at xmas and I have been referred to a rheumatologist. He is running a load of blood tests but I havent got another appointment for 3 months. The rash is usually red, raised, itchy and sore. The last few months they have been getting blood blisters and broken blood vessels in the actual rash area.
Avatar m tn when i try to treat them with washes and lotion like cetaphil it just ends up looking like blotches and i lose pigment in that area on my skin. then they crust over and the cycle repeats. was just looking for any advice to treat this condition.
