Common Questions and Answers about Sinus infection symptoms smell

infection

Avatar f tn Hi i have been having a sinus infection where for 10 days all I can smell is a mild scent of pine sol. what does this mean and is there any natural remedies I can do? PLEEEASE HEEEELP!!!!
Avatar f tn That is one of the symptoms of a sinus infection. It's the smell from toxins produced by your white blood cells killing bacteria, going straight to your olfactories. It doesn't require a full blown infection to happen. When you take the Keflex, the smell might get worse before it gets better. Finish your course of Keflex even if the smell goes away, then go back to your doctor and trust him.
Avatar m tn All the tests came back normal. The doctor said that it could be a sinus infection, and all he could do is prescribe an anti-biotic. Can anyone shine any light on my problem ?.
Avatar n tn i think i have got sinus problems how can you tell when you got sinus? thanks for you replied.
Avatar m tn It could smell like dog-poop, old cheese, ammonia, a burning smell, etc. The smell comes on, often, as a result of a cold or sinus infection. Some, not all, of these smells are caused by an anaerobic bacteria thriving in the upper sinuses, and I was able to remove mine with a Flip-Turn Sinus Flush, and many other people have had success with it as well: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn You may have a chronic infection and the drainage holes in your sinus are blocked so fluid can't drain out. You may also have nasal polyps in your nose. It my also be due to chronic food or chemical allergies. To start off with you probably need to go and see a good ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist. He will be able to do some investigations to work out the cause of your symptoms.
Avatar f tn I don't have much info so the best I can tell you is to keep working with your Dr. Maybe try posting in women's health and see if anyone there has some info for you.
Avatar m tn Any infection or blockage in your nose can cause you to smell something that is not there. Your symptoms of bad foul smell in the nose could be also due to sinus infections. They are due to stasis and infection of the sinus cavities, and the resultant drainage into the nose causes the bad smell. Facial pain, fever and nasal discharge are the other symptoms of sinusitis. You will need to consult your primary care physician for proper assessment.
Avatar m tn I am prone to sinus infections and had 4 last year until I was put on a corticosteroid (fluticasone proprionate) which has stopped the sinus infections, but not this foul smell! ENT suggested it may be a small infection that should eventually cure itself, but that was over a year ago. I have tried nasal irrigation for weeks at a time but with no change. Any ideas? Many thanks!
Avatar m tn I had sinus congestion 3 wks ago. Now I am left with stuffiness and a sweet smell in my sinuses. I do use CPAP at nite with a humidifier. I keep it clean but am wondering if I could have Pseudomonas in my sinus. My drainage is clear.
Avatar m tn If you have a sinus infection, you can notice odd smells that no one else smells. There are a few odors the point to brain tumors. Pencil shavings in the one I remember.
Avatar f tn For about 6 years I have dealt with constant sinus congestion, sinus pressure, and a gross smell that comes and goes. I went to the family doctor originally, who put me on antibiotics, which would help while I was on them. My main goal was to get this yucky smell to go away. Its like I have a moldy sock stuffed in my sinus cavity. This smell isn't constant it comes and goes. My doctor refered me to an ENT who took a CT of my sinuses.
Avatar f tn What helps is the Candida diet (which sucks at first but helped relieve my sinus symptoms in a few days) and sinus rinses like NielMed (only use distilled water) are great. Besides the baking Soda salt mix in the sinus rinse, people can add 1/2 tsp Xylitol. It keeps things from sticking and keeps down bacteria as well. I’ve also heard of fresh garlic being used with success. People eat it as well as add some drops to their nasal rinse.
Avatar m tn I give him mucinex which thins secretions. The smell clears up. It sounds sinus related as it is one side. One sinus having an issue. https://www.healthline.
Avatar n tn The best way to avoid or get rid of a sinus headache is to treat the underlying sinus inflammation and, if present, clear any infection by using antibiotics. Treating the inflammation involves anything from using a humidifier to taking medicines to surgically drain of the mucous in the sinuses. You need to consult an ENT specialist for that. The other possibilities are streptococcal infection of the throat, nasal polyps and infections of the oral cavity.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms of bad foul smell in the nose could be due to sinus infections. They are due to stasis and infection of the sinus cavities, and the resultant drainage into the nose causes the bad smell. Facial pain, fever and nasal discharge are the other symptoms of sinusitis. The best way to get to the bottom of your sinus issues is to see an ENT. A good examination inside the nose with a camera might give the ENT more information as well as a CT scan of the sinuses.
Avatar f tn I have had a sinus infection for about 8 weeks. Symptoms did not resolve with antibiotics so I went to an ENT. A recent CT scan revealed that I have an infection in both the maxilary and sphenoid sinuses. I am taking prednisone, amoxicilan, rx decongestant and two antibiotics and a steroid delivered by a nasal nebulizer. What urgent signs should I be aware of that I need medical care prior to my next scheduled appointment with the ENT in a week?-" .
Avatar f tn Thank you for taking the time to help me. I have read the journal top to bottom. I have no other symptoms - no sinus pain, mucus, irritation but will certianly give this method a try. Once I'm off smoking for 2 months, that should be enough to keep me off smoking for ever - that will be one positive outcome. I'll let you know how I made out.
876847 tn?1240239287 For that the diagnosis of sinusitis or sinus infection has to be confirmed. This can be done through transillumination (passing light through the sinuses) or Sinus X-rays or CAT scan of sinuses.Pls consult an ENT specialist and get these tests done. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.
Avatar m tn t know that other people could smell it, and I removed it with a sinus flush. Some other people had a smell that other people could smell, and found out they had a blockage in their sinuses, like a cyst, that caused sinusitis pockets. However, there are many people who have the horrible smell, have been to many many doctors, with no luck. If you do a sinus flush with no results after a week, then you are possibly in their group. Here is their thread, from the Respiratory Forum: http://www.
Avatar n tn Your problem is not unusual, but there doesn't seem to be one cause of the problem. Usually, if only you can smell it, it's an anaerobic sinus infection, and you can get rid of it with a Flip-Turn Sinus Flush. http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/2322/The-Sinus-Flush If other people smell it, as seems to be your case, go to Section 17, Revolting Sinus Odor, it will list some of the possible causes other than sinus infection.
