For most people it doesn't cause significant issues, however. With all medications, weighing risks and benefits to taking the medication must be done.
As with any medication, side effects are possible with simvastatin (Zocor®), including problems with the liver. For people taking simvastatin, liver problems can include:
• An increase in liver enzymes
• Hepatitis, which is an inflammation of the liver that can cause tiredness or a general feeling of illness
• Jaundice, or a yellowing of the skin or eyes that can occur due to liver damage
• A fatty change in the liver
• Cirrhosis
• Hepatoma, which is a type of liver cancer.
There are a lot of things that could cause the abdominal pain, jaw pain, and tingling feeling and they are not listed as side effects, but they could be related. I googled Simvastatin and found that it is a cholesterol medication, Zocor (one of the statins).
When I clicked on the link it immediately brought up a safety warning that said on certain high doses there is an increased risk of muscle injury.
Actually, Lipitor is much stronger than Simvastatin and has a much higher incidence of side effects, unless I have missed some new data. According to the links I have Simvastatin is the safest statin on the market.
I take Simvastatin with no side effects, and have for several years, and so does my husband, also no problems. It's done an excellent job of lowering both our cholesterols.
The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin). The most common side effects of the statins in general are nausea, gas, and upset stomach. Less common are headache, dizziness, rash, sleep disturbances, muscle pain, cramps, or weakness.
I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. Have you been on Simvastatin long? Side effects normally do not start after 90 days of use. Your other drugs may be causing the problem, especially the Neurontin which has concentration problems as a main side effect which can get worse the longer you take it.
If you feel it is the Simvastatin, you can always ask your doctor about going off of it for a short while to see if it improves. This is a rare side effect of Simvastatin so I would look elsewhere for the problem.

Simvastatin is generally well-tolerated and side effects are rare. Minor side effects include constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, gas, heartburn, and headache. Major side effects include abdominal pain or cramps, blurred vision, dizziness, easy bruising or bleeding, itching, muscle pain or cramps, rash, and yellowing of the skin or eyes.

This could be an allergic reaction to the drug. It will stop if the drug is withdrawn.
I am a 62 year-old male who has been taking simvastatin for about 30 years. All of my cholesterol-related numbers are in a healthy range, and I have never experienced any serious side effects (e.g., muscle weakness, kidney and liver impairment, etc.). I have, however, had trouble sleeping for the past several years (perhaps caused by simvastatin, perhaps not). More importantly, I have been experiencing back pain for the past few months and would like to try CBD.
In one huge survey, atorvastatin came out on top with the least side effects. Here is some info regarding your question which I found on the internet.....

Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor:

I have not been able to tolerate any of the statin drugs due to the severe gastric distress they cause. This, in turn, will result in palpitations for me. I have lowered my cholesterol with plant sterols, exercise and diet.
I would recommend asking your Dr or pharmacist if these are possible side effects. There could be another reason why you're gaining weight and your BP is up. You should'nt have any side effects from stopping this med but, your Dr put you on it for a reason. I take it you had high cholesterol numbers? See your Dr before you quit taking it. That's just my suggestion.
the most common side effects of simvastatin are headache, abdominal pain/cramps, constipation, URTI, flatulence, diarrhea, asthenia, nausea and vomiting, dyspepsia, myalgia, rash/pruritus(itching). make sure you do not take with grapefruit juice, report any signs and symptoms of infections, unexplained muscle pain, tenderness/weekness. i hope this helps!!! this all i know about the med.
The main study for Simvastatin was the 4S trial which proved that the incidence rate for side effects at 40 mg of Simvastatin was 1 in 2,220 prescriptions. What is interesting is that the incidence rate in the placebo group was 1 in 2,223. Also muscle pain is a very common complaint and is a symptom of many conditions.
Ed is correct about the half life, a normal 40 mg dose is out of your system within a day. Also, any side effects are usually gone in a couple days or a week at most.
Effective in June 2011 the FDA recommends limiting the dose of simvastatin to a maximum dose of 40 mg, with the exception of patients already taking simvastatin 80 mg daily for a period of greater than 12 months who have not developed any myalgia side effects. The FDA make this restriction because at the highest dose of simvastatin 80 mg daily the incidence of serious myopathy was higher than using other available statins.
I have been prescribed Acebutolol for PVC's and I am literally exhausted since beginning this medication but I didn't see that as one of the side effects. Also, my vision is blurred. Is this normal?
