808920 tn?1268057768 Has anyone experienced skin sensitivity around the left side area and some aching in the ribs? 2. Shoulder blade popping, muscle cramping on left side of back and joint discomfort? 3. Does anyone know what a normal recovery time is for myocarditis and is the side pain and shoulder popping/muscle cramping any side effects of this illness? I would like to communicate by email or phone with others that have had myocarditis. My email is tivy1960 at charter .dot. com.
Avatar f tn Typically Simvastatin is prescribed at 40mg but can be prescribed as high as 80mg daily but that will increase the risk of side effects. I would communicate new side effects with your doctor but try to push past the first few weeks, side effects should go away but be careful to report new issues.
Avatar f tn The main study for Simvastatin was the 4S trial which proved that the incidence rate for side effects at 40 mg of Simvastatin was 1 in 2,220 prescriptions. What is interesting is that the incidence rate in the placebo group was 1 in 2,223. Also muscle pain is a very common complaint and is a symptom of many conditions. Ed is correct about the half life, a normal 40 mg dose is out of your system within a day. Also, any side effects are usually gone in a couple days or a week at most.
Avatar m tn ) For the past 20 years, I have avoided NSAIDs, acetaminophens, other pain relievers and muscle relaxants because of their adverse effects to liver and kidneys (personally more significant because my dad had kidney disease). Since cannabidiol inhibits the liver's production of cytochrome P450, I am wondering about switching from simvastatin to pravastatin. That would allow me to try CBD, which appears to have minimal side-effects.
Avatar f tn The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin). The most common side effects of the statins in general are nausea, gas, and upset stomach. Less common are headache, dizziness, rash, sleep disturbances, muscle pain, cramps, or weakness.
Avatar n tn Hi, Simvastatin is generally well-tolerated and side effects are rare. Minor side effects include constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, gas, heartburn, and headache. Major side effects include abdominal pain or cramps, blurred vision, dizziness, easy bruising or bleeding, itching, muscle pain or cramps, rash, and yellowing of the skin or eyes. ref:http://www.medicinenet.com/simvastatin/article.htm This could be an allergic reaction to the drug. It will stop if the drug is withdrawn.
Avatar n tn Regarding the use of Gabapentin, you are regularly using since last September and had you suffered similar pains any time in the course of taking the drug? Although it has side effects as any other medicine, joint pain is not among the common or usual ones. You need to consult your attending doctor who had prescribed Gabapentin and update him of the possibility of the joint pains due to taking the drug. Are you been regularly followed up for your thigh pain? How is the pain presently?
Avatar f tn the most common side effects of simvastatin are headache, abdominal pain/cramps, constipation, URTI, flatulence, diarrhea, asthenia, nausea and vomiting, dyspepsia, myalgia, rash/pruritus(itching). make sure you do not take with grapefruit juice, report any signs and symptoms of infections, unexplained muscle pain, tenderness/weekness. i hope this helps!!! this all i know about the med.
Avatar m tn Have you been on Simvastatin long? Side effects normally do not start after 90 days of use. Your other drugs may be causing the problem, especially the Neurontin which has concentration problems as a main side effect which can get worse the longer you take it. If you feel it is the Simvastatin, you can always ask your doctor about going off of it for a short while to see if it improves. This is a rare side effect of Simvastatin so I would look elsewhere for the problem.
620048 tn?1358018235 I had to stop taking Lipitor last year because of the side effects of this statin - I felt like I had the flu, with aches all over. When the non-stop intestinal side effects kicked in to the point I was passing blood I waved the surrender flag. I went off the lipitor, with my cardio's knowledge, and almost immediately felt better. This was all BEFORE I had read the problems with statin drugs.
Avatar n tn Actually, Lipitor is much stronger than Simvastatin and has a much higher incidence of side effects, unless I have missed some new data. According to the links I have Simvastatin is the safest statin on the market.
Avatar f tn I take Simvastatin with no side effects, and have for several years, and so does my husband, also no problems. It's done an excellent job of lowering both our cholesterols.
428155 tn?1203688894 Take the simvastatin, but watch the side effects over the next months. They can be of various natures, and not always obvious (like my fibrillation). itdood, you wrote "no side effects. Tho at times I thought my muscles were getting sore." - The heart is a muscle. Keep that in mind. Madge270, diet is definitely the way to start.
Avatar m tn 4M now 0. Was feeling great except last 3 days chills, severe joint pain , headache cold hands and feet. I would like to hear if others may have similar syndrome .
Avatar f tn other new symptoms are joint pain/stiffness and no, previous symptoms not resolved....continued lethargy + and 0 weight loss..... As of this morning I am stopping medication in hopes that the faintness/dizzyness will go away as well as the joint pain....the office of the Dr. that prescribed the medication I have since found out has been closed by legal action!
Avatar m tn Side effects from statins do not normally start until 90 days after use and the risk of side effects are less than 1%. Is your doctor sure it's the statins or is he taking a shot in the dark? On a side note, a study was done to measure the side effect rate in 19,000 people, half on a statin and half on a placebo. It was interesting to find that the rate of muscle and joint pain reported was identical by both groups.
534810 tn?1213327718 I, too, have joint pain and swelling in hands (and sometimes feet) w/femara. I have developed a trigger finger and dequervains tendonitis in bilateral wrist w/thumb pain. Had to go off med for a month and also have sites injected w/cortisone. Never had any of this before. Oncologist said she had seen trigger finger before no dequervains tendonitis? Wondering if anyone out there has had any of these side effects? And what do you think of this? I am miserable w/all this discomfort.
Avatar n tn I have taken Accutane and experienced joint and muscle pain. However, this and other side effects wore off as my body got used to the medication. I had no side effects, except for dry lips, from 12 weeks onwards and took Accutane for 24 weeks. Side effects are generally dose related. Taking Accutane at the recommended dose for 16 to 24 weeks is your son's best hope of a long term remission from acne. The recommended dose is between 0.5 and 1mg x kg bodyweight per day.
Avatar f tn ve stopped taking methimazole 12 days ago because of the strong side effects (hives, joint/muscle pain, dry throat). Though these effects are lessening, I wonder how long it might take for them to be completely gone.
Avatar f tn re having to go through this. If your shot was Neulasta that is indeed one of the side effects, joint pain. I had it all over my body and it was sometimes crippling but I still went to work. I walked like I was 30 years older than I am because my hips, legs, feet, hands and spine ached like crazy. Even my fingers! The only thing I can say is when you get your chemo, drink lots of water and flush it out of your system as quick as you can.
Avatar m tn however, it is worth it if you have side effects. My side effects range from crawly skin to coughs to aching muscles. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn I have had some intense muscle and joint pain in the past, which is why my doctor has been changing my statin type and dosage. We're trying to find the right combo. I have a history of CAD and PAD, have had a femoral stent, and am a smoker.(59 yo male, btw). Does anyone know if I can substitute 20 mg Lipitor for my 20 mg Simvastatin, which I just ran out of? I have some Lipitor in the cabinet and my doc is going to put me on Vytorin in 11 days.
Avatar m tn anxiety does not normally cause joint pain unless your anxiety causes you to hold your joint rigidly for a period of time. any ticks in your area when you are outside? some tick bites can cause joint pain and fatigue.
Avatar n tn Not until I got on the cholesterol medication Simvastatin did I get Trigeminal Neuralgia. I refuse to take any anti seizure medications, the side effects are to dangerous. I take muscle relaxers and Advil as needed. After taking the statin drug Simvastatin I haven't been the same. I even got to the point that I was breathless. I took myself off the Simvastatin hoping the TN would go away, but it hasn't. I get half face headaches, throbbing, itching and can't be in the cold.
Avatar f tn In one huge survey, atorvastatin came out on top with the least side effects. Here is some info regarding your question which I found on the internet..... Atorvastatin 10mg reduced LDL by 30-40% = equivalent to 20mg Simvastatin Atorvastatin 40mg reduced LDL by 46-50% = equivalent to 80mg Simvastatin Starting doses for each of the two statins are ....
Avatar f tn The doctor injected me in my right knee joint and I thought I would die from the pain. The left knee joint was not as painful. After I felf pain relief. However, when I awoke yesterday both my knees where the injection was given , as I bent my knee, felt crackly. The right knee now "catches" as I walk-almost like something got dislodged. What is going on? I will see my doctor Monday cause he was not in. I am afraid to get the other injections now.
