Simvastatin natural alternatives

Common Questions and Answers about Simvastatin natural alternatives

zocor

Avatar n tn I think they are in the same drug class, I've taken both with the similar results. As I recall, I was changed from lipitor to simvastatin because simvastatin isn't as strong a statin because of some very strong congestive heart meds that impact the liver and kidneys. Factors that can change liver functions include weight gain, alcohol consumption, exercise levels and diet, so it takes a health professional, which I'm not, to ferret out cause for blood test changes.
Avatar f tn Hi I have been taking a 25mg of trazadone to help with sleep but I wanna try natural remedies like valarian root or magnesium. Can I take both natural remedies?
Avatar m tn If they remain high, he or she may recommend lowering the dose or switching to one of several simvastatin alternatives. When this medication is stopped, in most cases, the liver enzymes return to their pre-simvastatin levels. Liver Problems With Simvastatin: Warnings and Precautions Because simvastatin can affect the liver, it is used with caution in people who drink more than a moderate amount of alcohol or have a history of liver disease.
Tbd I have been taking Simvastatin on and off for years. About two years ago my doctor added ezetimibe to my regimen. It has been lowering my bad cholesterol how ever the first of this month I missed taking them for about a week and for the first time in years I felt less fatigued. I do have Fibromyalgia which is usually the cause of my fatigue, but this is a different type of fatigue. I have not restarted either of the cholesterol meds back because I have felt so much better.
Avatar n tn my Mayo Clinic cardiologist said to get off the Simvastatin and the aches went away. He has given me alternatives to statins and says these should work for me. He is not only a cardiologist but also a noted researcher in cell biology.
Avatar m tn As a matter of fact, she began taking the Simvastatin 20 mg a few years ago because her insurance no longer covered her usual cholesterol medication so the doctor had to switch her to Simvastatin. I remember when she first had to switch to Simvastatin, she complained about how her stomach hurt and how it gave her headaches. Since then she has just accepted it and taken the medication. Perhaps the Simvastatin is taking its toll on her.
Avatar f tn My right arm is the only thing that bothers me feeling a little tingly or a slight numb. I was put on an aspirin for life and on simvastatin. I now have one week since I stopped taking my simvastatin. I now want to try to conceive but my doctor suggested I stop simvastatin three months prior to trying due to it may cause birth deffects. I want to know if anyone has gotten pregnant after a stroke and how it went for you?

Avatar n tn We have been on simvastatin for (wife for 1+ years, me for 2+ years) and stopped about 5-6 months ago - wife still having pains in the butt some dizziness and leg pain, but getting better - I am having butt pain and leg pains, swollen left knee, (but joint pain seems OK on stairs), recovery seems slower than my wife's. But both of us have just been diagnosed with right enlarged renal cysts which were not there before taking simvastatin.

Avatar f tn I happened on this article, which really rings my chimes. So often people post about so-called natural remedies, which they automatically assume are superior to whatever Big Pharma produces. In my not so humble opinion, this is a very wrong assumption. Not to promote all the expensive and dubious stuff the pharmaceutical companies come up with. Far from that, really.

Avatar n tn s not a bad idea for you to at least try the many different natural treatments before subjecting yourself to medication, although I must be honest that in many cases that are more severe, the natural suppliments are not enough to effect any positive change in the anxiety or depression. I have tried just about every natural treatment for depression and anxiety on the market today.
Avatar m tn Same wrong answer. There are long term effects well documented on most pharamceuticals with the exception of the newer ones. We have government agencies for this with pharmaceuticals, noboody's watching the so called "natural" or "herbal", plus most pharamceuticals are made from what you push as "natural," and this is why you don't mix the two.

Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
