Research shows that 61 out of every 1000 patients on 80mg of simvastatin develop muscle problems. I do believe the half life for Simvastatin is quite short, 5 hours or less. If you take 80mg, then 5hours later only 40mg will remain. Another 5 hours only 20mg. So after 24 hours there will only be around 2-3mg in your body which is top up time.
Return to doctor for further investigation of these muscle aches.
Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
I have been taking Simvastatin 20mg for about 2 years, but recently my bad cholesterol has gotten very high to where it is elevated. Now, I admit to not being consistent lately with taking my medication; could this be the cause for my cholesterol to skyrocket?
I am a 62 year-old male who has been taking simvastatin for about 30 years. All of my cholesterol-related numbers are in a healthy range, and I have never experienced any serious side effects (e.g., muscle weakness, kidney and liver impairment, etc.). I have been on 20 mg of simvastatin and 3000 mg niaspan now my ck levels have went from 60 to 295 i could hardly walk .will my levels come down if i lower dose. and reverse damage. i have 12 stents .the rest of my blood work is fine.
I have been taking simvastatin for three weeks since having a Tia but have also had a flu like cold for ten days , I am still having aching flu like pains which I would have thought would have passed by now . I don't know if this is a side effect of the drug I'm taking 40mg a day but feel really achy will this pass .
I'm 62, and after being diagnosed with "high cholesterol about 12 years ago, I've been on simvastatin (20mg). This has always been an entirely "preventative" measure. No heart disease, I'm skinny (120lbs), don't smoke, hardly drink. Get exercize. I'd love to stop taking the statin given the data on possible muscle damage and cognitive issues.
Without taking the statin my recent numbers are HDL 63, LDL 152, overall 235, with a ratio of 3.7.
We have been on simvastatin for (wife for 1+ years, me for 2+ years) and stopped about 5-6 months ago - wife still having pains in the butt some dizziness and leg pain, but getting better - I am having butt pain and leg pains, swollen left knee, (but joint pain seems OK on stairs), recovery seems slower than my wife's. But both of us have just been diagnosed with right enlarged renal cysts which were not there before taking simvastatin.
I'm on Simvastatin (40mg) which have some nasty side effects, like cramps and muscle spasms. Can you reommend an alternative?
Can medications to lower high chlorestorol damage your liver, I have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease now and I am afraid to take statin drugs. How important is my concern. Simvastatin is one in particular.
My husband is fatigued most of the time. Suffers from many other symptoms such as muscle pain, irritability, anger, weakness, lack of interest in anything. He also has some other symptoms lower left abdominal pain, jaw pain, and tingling feeling in his skin. He doesn't know what it might be? Could it be a side effect to his simvastatin? Has taken this for about a year? Or some disorder? Please advise?

very interesting study which confirms why simvastatin, lowering cholesterol drug and actos (diabetes 2 drug), have anti hbv activity lowering hbvdna, cancer risk, all this without problems of resistance and acting on all hbv mutants

My partner is a 35 yr old male who for the last 2 weeks has been suffering from severe muscle cramps in is right hand and right foot. It starts with a tingling in his right arm from the elbow downwards which then causes his hand to cramp and lock with the fingers clawing in towards his palm. At the same time, his leg starts to burn from the caf down into the foot and goes into a cramp with his toes turning downwards and inwards.
Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
curious if stef2011 or studyforhope or StephenCastlecrag know whether simvastatin by itself can reduce viral load? I've read about the effects in conjunction with NUCS but I'm curious if sim is effective alone.
my husband has taken rimopril and simvastatin for over ten years, i met and marryed him 3 years ago our sex life was like everyone was well above average but a year later or less it dropped to maybe once week or once fortnight and as time has gone on its now worse all the time he blames the drugs he is on or iv had a heart attack is he correct !!!!!!
