simvastatin leg cramps

Upset stomach, back pain, leg cramps. I can hardly drive or walk for that matter. Most of all the symptoms that I have read on this I have had. At one point I thought I was dieing. I have had Insomnia and I have sleep apnea too. I am calling my Doctor to either take me off of it or lower the dose. I can't live like this and feel like this. I am also very Depressed. I was almost bed stricken this week-end with pain.

The muscles cramp for about 10 - 30 seconds and then both cramps go away simultaneously. The am and leg then feel weak afterwards, The foot feels painful for anythiang up to a few hours. This is happeninig between 5 and 8 times a day. He had not excercised for years but otherwise is a normal weight for his height. Diet not good, lots of crap and has smoked cannabis a few times a day on and off fore years (trying to stop).

Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.

We have been on simvastatin for (wife for 1+ years, me for 2+ years) and stopped about 5-6 months ago - wife still having pains in the butt some dizziness and leg pain, but getting better - I am having butt pain and leg pains, swollen left knee, (but joint pain seems OK on stairs), recovery seems slower than my wife's. But both of us have just been diagnosed with right enlarged renal cysts which were not there before taking simvastatin.

My elderly aunt just had to stop simvastatin due to sever back and leg pain. The pain was so bad that she was not steady on her feet, causing her to fall alot. Last monday it go so bad that I had to call her son to come pick her up and take her home with him. They read up on all of her meds called the Dr. he stopped the simvastatin and she is much better now and cont to improve. My husband is on it and has no problems. As with most drugs, they affect people different.

My husband is only 38, he had a stroke last year he had a stent put in, now he is on plavix, atenolol, hydrochlorothiazide 25mg, last week his doc added niacin 500 mg, simvastatin 20, flexeril and tramadol, also his one aspirin each day, these are just so many meds, are they safe?

Also, severe nocturnal leg cramps and a severe ramping-ing up of the peripheral neuropathy which hit years ago with a year on Pravachol, but it was the heart stuff that spooked me. However, the heart symptoms all resolved in a matter of months except for the Brady/RBBB and have not come back (it's been over a year now) and of course the cramps disappeared in about a week. So don't fret; you may come out of the woods yet.

m currently taking simvastatin. My doctor is switching my medicine due to my leg cramps to see if that will help. All of the cholesterol "statin" medicines can cause muscle cramps. This one works in the gut to keep your body from getting the cholesterol into your body in the first place. Since it works in the gut is why you can't cut, chew or crush it as it has to withstand your digestive juices for a while in order to do its work.

Research shows that 61 out of every 1000 patients on 80mg of simvastatin develop muscle problems. I do believe the half life for Simvastatin is quite short, 5 hours or less. If you take 80mg, then 5hours later only 40mg will remain. Another 5 hours only 20mg. So after 24 hours there will only be around 2-3mg in your body which is top up time.

Yes, I agree with you on the potassium deficiency. It is a frequent cause of leg cramps.

Try eating more bananas. I think the potasium in them help w cramps.

I also had a lot of leg cramps at work where I stood and walked around for 8 hours + daily my doctor suggested a change of shoes from my kitchen shoes to actual running shoes with support inserts, she also gave me a note for a stool but because it would cause a hazardous work environment I got my hours cut 100% I'm still technically employed but I haven't worked in 3 months
