Avatar f tn My endocrinologist prescribed me Atorvastatin 40mg in place of the simvastatin but it has since given my major chest pain and muscle weakness in my fingers and legs; so I was advised by the pharmacist to stop that and I have only taken the new statin twice and tonight was the second time taking it. Is simvastatin something that can be eased up to a higher dose to do the exact same thing atorvastatin does for the bad cholesterol?
Avatar m tn what is the recommended dosage for simvastatin and the frequency (i mean how many times in a day) and whether this should be taken before food or after food..
Avatar m tn what is the correct dosage of alinia (nitazoxanide) for hbv infection? i am inactive carrier normal alt 18,hbv dna 57iu/ml hbeab pos fibroscan 5.3kpa. i am waiting for hbsag quant result.
Avatar f tn I have had trouble sleeping but I always attributed this to my couch potato activities during the day but when I'm active I sleep well. So the obvious question is, are you sure it's the lisinopril? As far as "time of day" I can only speak for my self... I take Carvedilol at 7pm, Lisinopril at 8pm, go to bed around 10pm with Simvastatin, and sleeping by 10:30, 11pm. So there's 2hrs before bed time and a third before sleeping and I'll sleep all night.
Avatar n tn I have been taking simvastatin 10 mg per day for 5 years. On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
Avatar f tn The only negative I have read about Simvastatin in recent times is a study that showed high doses of simvastatin of 80 mg puts a patient at a greater risk for side effects including muscle damage. Most doctors have backed off of the 80 mg dosage as a result. I have been on 40 mg for years and it has worked great for me with no issues. Your husband needs to address this concern with his doctor. He needs to understand why there was a change in treatment.
Avatar f tn Due to the potential for severe interaction, concomitant use of atorvastatin, lovastatin, or simvastatin with telaprevir is considered contraindicated. Red yeast rice, which contains lovastatin, should also be avoided during treatment with telaprevir. Fluvastatin, pravastatin, pitavastatin, and rosuvastatin are probably safer alternatives, since they are not metabolized by CYP450 3A4.
Avatar m tn I would like to know why you believe simvastatin and or statin in geneal have ant-hbv activities? Have you heard of cases where statins cause acute liver failure in chronic hbv patients?
Avatar m tn The use of simvastatin in the prevention of a malignant liver tumor according to the present invention contemplates the daily administration of an effective amount of simvastatin orally. An effective amount of simvastatin is that amount which provides a decrease in the level of alphafetoprotein to a normal level and which maintains alphafetoprotein at the normal level.
Avatar f tn Research shows that 61 out of every 1000 patients on 80mg of simvastatin develop muscle problems. I do believe the half life for Simvastatin is quite short, 5 hours or less. If you take 80mg, then 5hours later only 40mg will remain. Another 5 hours only 20mg. So after 24 hours there will only be around 2-3mg in your body which is top up time.
Avatar n tn Fisrt I'd like to question why your doctor has you on 150mg a day of simvastatin when 80mg is the maximum recommended dose. If it was me, I'd be asking! If you've developed a cough that is not associated with an upper respiratory infection, a cold or seasonal allergies, you should have it evaluated by your doctor, especially if you're experiencing shooting pains in your head when you cough. I'm not saying you should be "worried" per se, just smart.
Avatar n tn 40 mg is not high, it's the norm. Dosage of Simvastatin ca be as high as 80 mg. I am curious why you are on a statin with a total cholesterol of 160. What s your breakdown by LDL & HDL and do you have any risk factors of CAD currently? Plus, if your script was for 20 mg I would question the pharmacy about receiving 40 mg. Let us know when you can and we can speak more accurately about your dosage.
907968 tn?1292622204 My cardiologist changed me over from 40MG of Simvastatin to the same dosage of Crestor and I have been taking it for about a year now. So far, no problems and my LDL level has gone down even further since taking the Crestor.

Soles and heels of feet are sore especially when getting out of bed in morning and when i'mon my knees i'm finding it hard to get up again. Recently i was taken into coronary care after experiencing chest pain and finding it hard to breath. tests were done and all came back clear. Still awaiting dye test.
Avatar m tn It is really a feeling I can hardly describe other than I felt like total crap about 80-90% of the time. Once again, my doctor did tests (sleep study, etc.) and could find nothing that would be causing fatigue. Not long after that it just came to me to research statins, and lo and behold I discovered a lot of people were having the same symptoms as me, so I decided to stop taking it. This Feb will be 3 years since I've taken it.
Avatar f tn they start real gently then get quite vibrant,i am hot, but as soon as i start moving around, i have to get out of bed make a dash to the toilet, by which time i have cooled of and got back to normal. Avatar n tn Try to search otan's experience and you could learn from it. Stef will surely comment regarding this in a while, so better wait as he is most knowledgeable amongst us. If you are really keen to cure that remaining hbsag, interferon is the key adding to your current antiviral.
Avatar m tn Have you been on Simvastatin long? Side effects normally do not start after 90 days of use. Your other drugs may be causing the problem, especially the Neurontin which has concentration problems as a main side effect which can get worse the longer you take it. If you feel it is the Simvastatin, you can always ask your doctor about going off of it for a short while to see if it improves. This is a rare side effect of Simvastatin so I would look elsewhere for the problem.
Avatar m tn The serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) were significantly reduced by simvastatin. The proportions of CD4+ and CD8+ T cell subsets expressing early (CD25) or late (HLA-DR) activation markers, as assessed by flow cytometry, were not changed by simvastatin. However, simvastatin tended to increase the density of HLA-DR and L-selectin per CD8+ T cell. The T helper(h)1/Th2 response was evaluated by stimulatory assays followed by intra-cellular staining of interferon-γ and interleukin-4.
907968 tn?1292622204 The class if statins that Simvastatin belongs in has a half life of only 11.3 hours at the most and it loses it's effect within 22 hours so it needs to be taken daily to get consistent results.
382218 tn?1341181487 Sixty-four patients with acute ON were randomized to simvastatin treatment (n = 32) or placebo (n = 32) for 6 months. None of the patients had been on immunosuppressive therapy for 6 months prior to inclusion or treated with steroids from symptom onset.
