Common Questions and Answers about Signs of rsv in newborns

rsv

Avatar n tn The vaccine has been shown to be effective in preventing and/or reducing the severity of RSV infections and the number of hospitalizations each year. Infants who are a product of multiple births, have lung disease, low birth weight, heart disease, and those born prematurely are at a higher risk to contract a serious form of Resipritory Syncytial Virus.
Avatar f tn Finally a few days ago i took him in again to the ER n they found out he has a virus newborns have been getting its Called Rsv n if they would have tested it before they would have found it i was So pissed!!! So now today we got out of the childerns hospital they sent him home with oxygen but to me he still seems bad but they that he was Fine!!
Avatar f tn It's fine I actually asked my mother same thing last night and she said to stay in for a week but that it's fine after!
Avatar f tn You are right. No treatment is necessary for mild disease. Some of the signs to watch for that would indicate your son is getting worse would include: increase in breathing rate or of effort to breathe, fever, poor appetite, and dehydration. If you have any question, call your local children's hospital and ask to speak with a nurse or a physician's assistant (PA). Your baby will probably be fine.
377012 tn?1283965435 (crying all night) so i left out some info! in Oct. he was diagnosed with RSV and then again at the end of Nov.-first of Dec. he had it again! unfortunately RSV can take up to 8 weeks before it is released from your system hence why he had it twice in 2 months....the reason i thought it could be pneumonia is because of the way is chest moves when he breathes and because RSV can cause pneumonia to be set up in your system since your system is low especially in toddlers!
Avatar n tn Primary bronchomalacia or tracheomalacia in newborns have an excellent prognosis, because airflow improves as the airways grow and wheezing is usually gone by age 3 years. When tracheomalacia is due to an anatomic abnormality or mass in children or adults the prognosis depends in large measure on surgical correction and how long the bronchial compression has been in place.
1613451 tn?1301846928 PS She doesnt look in distress or doesnt cry at all. But the only thing that scares me is her heavy breathing after eating...?
Avatar n tn I would think that if for some reason the baby were to show signs of withdrawal they would test the infant. However being a responsible Mommy it is very important that you inform your doctor and your babies pediatrician so they can monitor the new baby closely. I am not here to pass judgement but your baby deserves the best start in life and you being honest with everyone will ensure that will happen. Best of luck to you!
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
1368291 tn?1299629804 The bad thing is on Friday I noticed Ryan getting a little stuffy. Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
Avatar f tn ve been reading your post and researching a bit to see if I can be of help, as your child sounds quite ill in his lower respiratory tract. The RSV can be a serious virus in young children. Were you told much about it? Did the pulmonologist (hopefully you're seeing a specialist!) explain why he/she thinks your son was having these difficulties? Usually a full term baby - even one with asthma doesn't have so many other respiratory disorders.
Avatar n tn For instance juvenile diabetes is thought to be triggered by a virus - the child was already set up to be vulnerable to developing it, they catch a viral illness and a few weeks later their pancreas starts to stop working and they develop signs of diabetes. Same goes with rsv, a very common respiratory virus that in infants and the elderly ( or immunosuppressed ) can cause them to be very ill.
Avatar f tn its the most horrible feeling in the world!! I lost a couple of pounds because of it and it really really ***** to have it!! I felt like I was dying.. I did EVERYTHING I possibly can to avoid it but in the end I ended up with it... just try not to leave ur house a lot lol I know its hard but it the best thing to do... and stay with ur hand sanitizer and Clorox spray but keep it away from u becuz it has toxins... just drink a lot of fluids and eat right.
1347128 tn?1333810296 her doctor told me to get a humidifier and put it in the same room as the baby and turn or you could also turn on the hot water and get it steamy in there while you have your baby in there and that could help also, i did both of those thing with her and it helped alot!! also use salt water and squeeze it up your childs nose and suction it all out and do that before and after feedings and before bed also and when your baby wakes up . if your baby does not clear up in like 2.
306245 tn?1244384967 he was just a tad grey, not nearly as bad as he can get. there is no signs of any type of distress. I heard this could mean is blood vessels might be dialating and I was told it could be dangerous. is this possible. I am really nervous about giving him a bath his Primary docotr just took notes and put a call into his Cardiologist with no explaination for this. they are considering doing an event monitoring, due to him having questionable palpations and chest pain.
Avatar f tn My grandchildren(2-3-4) were taken to ER cause of the same thing.Got this test and that done(no dehydration) and they said they had infectious diarreah. Not all the tests were back yet when they were told they could go home. Wouldn't ya know though..once they were in the ER they didn't all act sick.2 of them had spewed in the truck on the way there. They had been sick like yours for 3 weeks. Off and on this was going on.Gotta check back with my daughter abt the labs.
1346146 tn?1299360497 Well Lauren has rsv! My pedi also said adults can get it to!?!? Didn't know that. I guess that explains this cold type stuff I have. So she is on breathing treatments. We caught it early enough so hopefully it wont be so bad. Dh is also sick, my oldest son broke his foot last week at school and is in a nonwalking cast, and Lauren also bit my left breast last week while nursing and it's infected so im on antibiotics and she can't nurse from that side!
377012 tn?1283965435 i went to mymonthlycycles and put in all of my info.......it told me that i should start sunday which is 3 days earlier than i had thought........i had a possible 26 pregnancy symptoms out of 32........this is a good sign!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn One of my friends new born baby was diagnosed with rsv she is only a month old she is still in the hospital. And last night her 2 year old got bit by a dog. She was rushed to the er . She has to save surgery this morning if you can please say a prayer for this family.
Avatar f tn s something new a new feeling he could just be gassy my doctor said of by day 2 no poop come in my daughter would skip a day n some time still does but acts like she has to
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, there is no way to give you a cut and dry black and white answer to your question. 15mg a day for a month in a half certainly IS long enough to cause dependency and w/d. but everyone is different, especially newborns. The important thing is that your doctor is aware so that extra care can be taken to watch the baby for any signs of w/d. Hopefully he/she won't experience any.
