Avatar n tn The vaccine has been shown to be effective in preventing and/or reducing the severity of RSV infections and the number of hospitalizations each year. Infants who are a product of multiple births, have lung disease, low birth weight, heart disease, and those born prematurely are at a higher risk to contract a serious form of Resipritory Syncytial Virus.
Avatar n tn Some w/ ear inf., others with RSV, and some with bronchiolitis. My son has not been that sick. He has had two bouts of bronchiolitis (9mths apart)and a sinus infection, all in one year. He has had congestion that he can't get rid of and a cough ( not nearly as bad as others I have read). Although sometimes his cough makes him vomit. I guess my question is this.....Could he have been misdiagnosed? Or are there less severe symptoms that go along with RAD? Please help!
Avatar f tn If I have HSV on the mouth, and had predrome signs of an outbreak, but kissed my 9 month old (numerous times, not even thinking about an outbreak)... What do I need to watch for with her? She's been very irritable, and drooly. Could just be teething, but I'm concerned. Especially reading all the stuff on the Internet (i.e. HSV encephalitis).
Avatar f tn A teacher that I work with has a baby in the hospital with RSV. She emailed that if you baby has a cough with no fever, please take them to get checked for RSV. My DD is 6 months old and has had a chronic cough for a long time. It seems to get better and then starts all over again. I have taken to the doctor for it three times, the last time a week ago today. Everytime they check her really good and say it is just drainage from a cold. She has not had any fever and feels good.
127529 tn?1331840780 I am trying to nurse him more often but he is so tired he is finding it hard to stay awake. I do give him a bottle of expressed milk in the evening with his vitamin A supplement in which he takes easily and it hasn't caused nipple confusion but I am reluctant to give him more bottle feeds as I am afraid he will get lazy at the breast; do you think one more bottle of expressed milk would be okay? I am frightened of him getting dehydrated if I don't get a bit more milk into him.
Avatar f tn She slept all night!!! My pediatrician called me last night and told me that with all the sypmtoms I told him, he doesn't think Anna has any signs of RSV. It sounds like she just has a bad cold. He said they have seen so many cases of flu and RSV that he doesn't want me to bring her in the office unless I feel it extremely necessary. He recommended vicks, vaporizers and a plug in thing from Pediacare that puts vapors in the room.
Avatar f tn You are right. No treatment is necessary for mild disease. Some of the signs to watch for that would indicate your son is getting worse would include: increase in breathing rate or of effort to breathe, fever, poor appetite, and dehydration. If you have any question, call your local children's hospital and ask to speak with a nurse or a physician's assistant (PA). Your baby will probably be fine.
Avatar f tn It's fine I actually asked my mother same thing last night and she said to stay in for a week but that it's fine after!
Avatar f tn My son also just got over RSV. Did they do a chest xray when you took him in? The reason I ask is because when I took Jadyn in they did a chest Xray and swabbed for RSV. The xray came back clear and his breathing "sounded fine" so they gave me the choice of taking him home and caring for him myself.
Avatar f tn Hi, respiratory syncytial virus is a very common virus that causes cold-like symptoms, but can lead to breathing difficulties. Those who are more prone to develop serious respiratory infections as a result of RSV include premature babies and those born with heart or lung problems. Regards.
377012 tn?1283965435 (crying all night) so i left out some info! in Oct. he was diagnosed with RSV and then again at the end of Nov.-first of Dec. he had it again! unfortunately RSV can take up to 8 weeks before it is released from your system hence why he had it twice in 2 months....the reason i thought it could be pneumonia is because of the way is chest moves when he breathes and because RSV can cause pneumonia to be set up in your system since your system is low especially in toddlers!
Avatar n tn Primary bronchomalacia or tracheomalacia in newborns have an excellent prognosis, because airflow improves as the airways grow and wheezing is usually gone by age 3 years. When tracheomalacia is due to an anatomic abnormality or mass in children or adults the prognosis depends in large measure on surgical correction and how long the bronchial compression has been in place.
Avatar n tn My son had RSV when he was 2 weeks old and was in the hospital for 2 weeks....He is now 10 and has never had any lung problems, That is realey the onley time he has ever been sick...Hope this helps..i will be praying for ur familey....
1690584 tn?1340297472 Savannah was admitted to the hospital for RSV, Bronchitis, Ear Infection. Stayed until Saturday but was released earlier then she should have been due to Christmas. 142722 tn?1281533616 Developmental health watch Although each baby develops in her own individual way and at her own rate, failure to reach certain milestones may signal medical or developmental problems requiring special attention. If you notice any of the following warning signs in your infant at this age, discuss them with your pediatrician.
377012 tn?1283965435 this past week and a 1/2 has been the worst of all, i just wish he could hurry up and get rid of all of this, but i must be patient and continue getting him better!
Avatar n tn I would think that if for some reason the baby were to show signs of withdrawal they would test the infant. However being a responsible Mommy it is very important that you inform your doctor and your babies pediatrician so they can monitor the new baby closely. I am not here to pass judgement but your baby deserves the best start in life and you being honest with everyone will ensure that will happen. Best of luck to you!

172411 tn?1287086265 ve worked in preschool for nearly twenty years and I see RSV every year in the kids - the doctor is right, it needs to work itself out - some of the children who end up in the hospital end up there due to parents who don't pay attention to symptoms and don't follow dr's advice or children with compromised immune systems and sometimes children who have existing respiratory issues such as asthma, etc.
Avatar m tn Can RSV cause cardiac arrest in a child with passed myocarditis and would he qualify to recieve rsv shot to prevent him from getting it.

Avatar f tn I am not sure my now 6 year old son, Chris got a severe case of RSV when he was 5 weeks old. I also had a 20 month at home with a "cold" My 20 month old, Gary was never tested for RSV because he wasn't in distress. Chris got it again when he was 2 1/2 years old and it was the middle of summer.
