Avatar n tn Although it’s not known for sure whether benign ovarian cysts or polycystic ovaries develop into ovarian cancer, the vast majority of ovarian cysts appear to be unrelated. Women who have polycystic ovaries or ovarian cancer seldom have obvious symptoms early on. However, in both disorders, symptoms are noticed as the condition progresses. Because the ovaries are affected on both disorders, the some of the symptoms can be similar.
Avatar f tn ve heard of some women having only the cysts removed and leaving some or all of the ovaries intact. You could ask your doctor about that possibility or get another opinion. Some doctors are not as comfortable doing something that delicate. It's easier to pull the whole works. If you can keep some ovary, then you'll still have your hormones that can lead to a natural menopause. Are you nervous about HRT or about the surgery?
Avatar n tn Although it is possible to have ovarian cancer at a young age (I was 26 when I was diagnosed) having cysts does not mean you will get cancer. Many women have harmless ovarian cysts that never progress into anything... Having cysts does not mean you will have cancer. It is a good idea however, to keep an eye on them because even harmless cysts can grow and cause other issues. If you have concerns, you should definatley consult with your doctor about them...
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm so sorry your daughter is going through all this at such a young age. I don't know the answer to your question but you might try posting to the Ovarian Cyst forum - this is the Ovarian Cancer forum and a lot of the women on here didn't deal with cysts. Scroll down the page and you'll find the link to the ovcy forum on the right under "Related Communities".
Avatar n tn Benign dermoid ovarian cysts uncommonly cause symptoms in young girls. It is estimated that they constitute 0.35% of all tumors occurring in children of both sexes less than 15 years of age. Symptoms produced by the cysts may mimic other intra-abdominal disease, and in three of the four cases reported in this series the girls were initially considered to have either acute appendicitis or infection of the urinary tract. All three had a pelvic mass palpable per rectum.

Avatar m tn At such a young age it can be dermoid cyst which is a type of complex ovarian cyst and is the most common type and develops during the childbearing age. Complex ovarian cysts are generally benign. The risk of malignancy is generally higher among postmenopausal women. You should get a repeat ultrasound and CT scan done. A CA125 blood test should also be performed.
Avatar f tn The ovarian cysts need further evaluation regarding their size and nature. Many of the cysts in young women respond to birth control pills or regress spontaneously. Hence it would be best to consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn There are definitely other females who have had cysts at younger ages. You might want to give more information so that other women and girls will know what kind of cyst you had, what kind of operation, recovery, so that they can answer any questions you might have. I think that the title of your post was also somewhat harsh. You might not meant it to be that way - I hope not.
Avatar m tn Ovarian cysts are common and almost always benign (non-cancerous) including ones that have some suspicious traits. A woman's lifetime risk of ovarian cancer (OC) is less than 2% (1.3% per U.S. government statistics). Imaging is not exact and doctors have to cover their bases hence the reason for saying malignancy cannot be ruled out. Biopsy is the only way to know for sure Erratic bleeding is pretty much the norm during perimenopause.
Avatar f tn I find often that women who have chronic pelvic pain are talked into believing that 1-2 cm cysts are causing their problems. These cysts are normal and are almost always present on every woman's ovaries. I hope this is not what your doctors are talking about too! Your problem is a difficult one--chronic pain in the pelvic area, and believe it or not, often results from some sort of major physical/psychological trauma that becomes worse and worse over time.
Avatar f tn In my doctor surgery I saw a poster about signs of ovarian cancer and two of them were bloating and going to pee more often. Lately I am passing urine a lot more frequently and I do feel bloated sometimes and my abdomen feels tender. The doctor said it was IBS and stress and when I said I was worried about ovarian cancer he said it didn't sound like signs of ovarian cancer. I am 28 Could anyone tell me what sort of symptoms they had before getting diagnosed?
Avatar m tn Also check out the ovarian cyst forum at medhelp for discussion of the managements of ovarian cysts that are not related to ovarin cancer good luck
Avatar n tn Actually cysts are very very common in young premenopausal women and 95 % benign. You may want to check the top right of this page; "Health Pages" . It has a lot of information about cysts . Of course we don't know if she even has cysts. And.. we're not Drs. here.. She really needs to be seen my by a Gyn. It could be one of many things. The CA-125 blood test unfortunately isn't a really good diagnostic tool for such a young woman with no other symptoms of Ovarian Cancer.
Avatar m tn advice please for an 18 year-old with ovarian cysts and distressing acne 1. are the two problems related? 2. I took three month Metformine 50mgs/day for the cysts but yesterday's ultra showed right ovary 3.6 X 2.5 cms. Left, 3.2 x 2.1 both with multiple small cysts average 5mm in diameter. i.e. smaller cysts but more in number than the last test. Is it a fact that I won't get rid of the acne until the cysts are gone? 3.
Avatar f tn When did you have the ultrasound done and did they do a TV/US, which is a trans-vaginal ultrasound that gives a better view than a regular abdominal ultrasound. Ovarian cysts are fairly common in young women and develop during ovulation. There is a lot of information about cyst at the top of the page on the cyst forum, click on heath pages to look up the cyst link.
Avatar f tn Hello, There are specific types of ovarian cancer that are more often found in children and adolescents that are different from those found in older women. In children and young girls ovarian cancer usually presents as an ovarian mass and typically they only report pain if the ovary twists and its blood supply is cut off. So, ovarian cancer in young people is overall uncommon, but definitely occurs. Your symptoms would be atypical.
1427674 tn?1283107458 Some ovarian cysts are hormonally active and result in pseudopuberty (early physical signs of puberty) In girls with hormonally active cysts, the ovarian enlargement may be mistaken for an ovarian tumor, leading to unnecessary(surgery) . Girls presenting with premature vaginal bleeding and ovarian enlargement should be genetically evaluated An ovarian cyst in a toddler/young child is often discovered by a Dr.
Avatar f tn An OB/GYN is usually the the doctor who would perform a hysterectomy and they also often remove ovarian cysts. However, if malignancy is even a possibility, you need to also consult with a gynecologic oncologist prior to surgery, if possible. It is a standard recommendation within the medical community and among cancer organizations, that women should consult with a gynecologic oncologist when they require surgery for a condition that has signs worrisome for malignancy.
474394 tn?1207672322 No complex does not mean cancer, it just means that there is solid matter inside the cyst. Most ovarian cysts are benign, over 90 percent and you are young which is also good. What is the follow up? When do you see the GYN again?
Avatar f tn Also I have found a small, hard knot behind the opening of my cervix. Ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer, and endometriosis are something that has occurred in my family many times. I am terrified. I have made an appointment at my gynecologist (sp?) but I have to have a referral to see them. My appointment is in 6 days and I don't know any doctors around where I now live to receive a referral. I am curious to know if others have had these symptoms and what did they turn out to be.
Avatar f tn d see if they could prescribe you on Metformin, or a similar drug to help with the cysts. You may just be one of those women who fall into the highly unlucky category with their reproductive systems. I'm so sorry you're going through this!
Avatar f tn However, I read a statistic that up to 14 percent of women post menopause develop ovarian cysts! Pretty big number even if not common. A hormonal imbalance can cause these cysts. However, they usually resolve between 8 and 12 weeks. If you still have symptoms past that, I'd talk to your doctor again. It is so fun being a woman. sigh.
