Avatar m tn The interesting thing is the symptoms of Low T in women virtually match identically the low thyroid symptom list. So the difficulty is to convince the Dr. that her lasting symptoms may be low T and not Hypo thyroid is a touch argument to make. And there is no gurantee that it is not BOTH. All I know is that the tests show she is BELOW range. As you can see above they won't even list the amount. It simply says less than 0.20 which is the botom of the range.
Avatar n tn I had an initial treatment with radioactive iodiine and yearly scans since, with nary a sign of a thyroid cell anywhere. My doc has kept me on 175 mcg (I weigh 165 lbs., 57 y.o.) of Unithroid and has kept my TSH <.05 throughout. My 1/29/08 Free T4 was 2.1. My lab numbers (TSH, free T4) have been rock solid. Over the past year I have noticed very uncharacteristic signs of anxiety and insomnia. I keep mentioning this to my endo but he ignores it.
8101930 tn?1420001456 I'm sorry girl. The good news is this is a fixable problem and you'll both be happy and healthy. Can u schedule an apt to meet with your doctor and go over labs in person so u can discuss your previous lab work and symptoms too? Insomnia and hair breaking are signs of too much thyroid hormone. So it's possible that the dose of your medication last time was too high. It was overcorrected, if you will. If on the correct dose, those symptoms should disappear.
Avatar f tn The disease typically progresses slowly over a number of years and causes chronic thyroid damage, leading to a drop in thyroid hormone levels in your blood. The signs and symptoms are mainly those of an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism). The signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism vary widely, depending on the severity of hormone deficiency. At first, you may barely notice any symptoms, such as fatigue and sluggishness, or you may simply attribute them to getting older.
Avatar f tn It has to be monitored the entire pregnancy for levels and it is very common for women of child bearing age.
Avatar f tn Free T3 and Free T4 were not done - it would say so... In my own case I feel tons better when TSH is on the low end of the scale and the thyroid tests are on the higher ends... My doc does not even run the uptake or index test so I don't know anything about them so I cannot comment on them maybe Horsey knows... Only primary people have tans (or people odd like me with both primary and secondary). If your sodium is like that... I would find it kinda odd that you have an adrenal issue.

Avatar f tn This is totally wrong. Due to the number of different steps in the total thyroid process, and the numerous variables involved, TSH has a negligible correlation with hypothyroid symptoms, which are the cause for patient concerns. For the same reasons, the active thyroid hormones Free T4 and Free T3 have only a fair correlation with hypo symptoms. Every person can have different levels of thyroid at which they feel normal.
Avatar n tn Many drs miss this diagnosis, especially in women and in the early stages. It is the most common genetic disorder found among people of European descent and the most often misdiagnosed or not diagnosed until late stages of the organ damage.
611475 tn?1221240855 The high TSH [low thyroid can be attributed to painless postpartum thyroiditis. The article below gives detailed desccription:from readers. "Postpartum thyroiditis is a painless inflammation of the thyroid gland that can occur in the mother usually four to 12 months after childbirth. The cause of this uncommon condition isn't known. You may be at increased risk of postpartum thyroiditis if you have an immune system disorder or a prior history of thyroiditis.
1081864 tn?1257519948 Another good medication is Spironolactone--this must be used with the birth control pill (it can cause birth defects) and works by blocking the action of testosterone. This combination of medications will get rid of most of your symptoms ( irregular periods, hair growth, acne, ovarian cysts). But obviously are not going to help you get pregnant if you are going for a girl! You might want to see a good endocrinologist in addition to your gynecologist. Good luck!
Avatar n tn m in the process of titrating since I still have a lower normal FT3. My Tsh is not as low as yours. I am 59 and have never had a bone scan and have not had my heart monitored so I'm thinking it might be a good idea. At 90mg Armour my BP runs about 114/74 and pulse 72-80.
Avatar n tn My question is, now I am experiencing some other things that I have read could be the early warning signs of an impending heart attack in women, they are - spasmodic dry cough (comes out of the blue, sometimes 12 x day, others 2 x day), and I am suffering from very interrupted sleep. I am waking up almost every hour on the hour every night for the past week or so. I also suffer from extreme bouts of fatigue (not always in conjuction with lack of sleep).

Avatar m tn I read the article. It says that women who took thyroid meds during early pregnancy were 5 x more likely to have lesbian daughter than women who didn't take thyroid meds. It also said that women who took ampetamine type slimming pills during early pregnancy were 8x more likely to have lesbian daughters than women who didn't take these pills.
Avatar f tn Thyroid is not likely to be the root cause of all this, but with the other autoimmune type issues, you should be tested for thyroid problems.
Avatar m tn TSH is short for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, it is produced by the Pituitary Gland in the brain, When your thyroid hormone T4/T3 is low, the Pituitary senses it and sends the TSH to the Thyroid to stimulate it to produce more thyroid hormone, when your thyroid hormone is high, the TSH is low. A better test for thyroid issues is the Free T3 and Free T4 lab tests.
Avatar f tn Well it never really went away. My pain is now much worse its in my jaw, neck(worse in front but in back of nevk too), ears, feels like its now in shoulders too. So i go back to Endrocronologist and she does Labs T3,T4,TSH, CBC w/diff, sed rate, and C-reactive protein which were all normal. Doc says symptoms i have do not resemble a throid issue. But she wants to do Thyroid uptake scan(radioactive Iodine test) so in the mean time ive heard its neuropathy, Acid reflux and so on.
