Avatar n tn No one has addressed the Long Term Effects of Vicodin except for bowl problems. What are the long term effects on your kidneys and liver?
Avatar n tn HEY EVERYBODY How come no-one's talking about "LONG TERM EFFECTS" and how it AFFECTS you? (lol) THIS FORUM SAYS "LONG TERM EFFECTS" at the top. I wanna talk about long term effects, but it seems like everyone who succesfuly stops, ALSO STOPS COMING TO THIS WEB SITE! I'm guessing that this is the case because this "long term" forum seems to be full of people that are talking about being on their 3rd to 30th day of detox.
Avatar n tn I have been reading Dan's numerous postings touting the wonderful benefits of Methadone, and absence of any ill effects. Although some of his posts are a bit forceful and one-sided, I have decided that as a methadone-user, his defensive diatribes must be warranted. And since the research apparently shows NO ill effects if taken as perscribed, I must say: I'm gonna go for it!!! Nothing negative! No toxic effects! Guaranteed, regardless of my addiction or medical history or current afflictions!
Avatar n tn both are hynotics and amnesia is one of the potential side-effects... i could tell you more stories of **** that i have done on halcion and ambien but it would take up too much room... but i have done some crazy assed **** on it! i take seroquel for sleep and it works just as well and i don't suffer black outs from it. i think taking ambien and having amnesia from it is what being multiple personality disorder would be like... "following trail of pretzels to phone, hmmm....
491984 tn?1463402330 Your doctor won’t tell you the long term effects of what you are taking because he probably doesn’t know or is unwilling to make an educated guess. I was on 400 mg of Tramadol a day (among other drugs that I sometimes took with the Tramadol) for 5 years and monitored myself in various ways. Using a digital home BP kit to monitor my BP I worked out that it would rise to roughly 160/100 about 2 hours after taking the Tramadol and then gradually drop back to at best borderline high BP of 140/90.
Avatar f tn Actually there are several very good articles on the use of methadone for long term treatment of chronic pain. It is beleived to be the narcotic least apt to be abused and has the least side effects. I'm sorry I forgot the author (a respected PM Physician) of the best and most informative article but maybe someone here will remember. I found it by goggling it. Dosage may have to be increased in time but again they beleive not as often as other opiates.
Avatar m tn i want to know the side effects of saboxone, long n short term. ive been taken 1 to 2 saboxone a day. im not even into pills but when i tried it, i like the feeling. and i want to know the side effects, i heard memory loss was one? i took 2 **** tests on it and i passed. if anyone knows for sure please let me know, thank you.
Avatar n tn Bravo, Dave. :) The long-term side-effects of treatment (as well as the side-effects of long term treatment) are thoughts that run around in my head a lot, sure. I've watched my husband endure 128 weeks of interferon, and though it's obvious to both of us he's not the same physically, we can only figure things from an *anecdotal* standpoint -- how objective can we be without a *control* situation, after all?
Avatar m tn does anyone at ALL feel frustrated, used, mislead, and just angered that the (your doc/methadone people)did not at least warn YU of the possible head/brain issues with long term methadone use? When i did some research, i found that this was known in 2001!!!!! not just 2012!!!! Probably before 2001. in the U.K they were dispensing methadone much earlier than North America. I am in Ontario Canada. Blaming them or anyone for my addiction i am not!! Is not a reasonable expectation that the C.O.P.S.
417564 tn?1287986427 I use the term still detoxing off of methadone as it has been a long journey, I started going to a methadone clinic only out of sheer fear of withdrawal from oxycodone, it was the wrong choice for me, but theirs not anything I can do about it now, so regardless of that, I have gone from 95 mgs down to 12, yipi!
Avatar f tn It was hell trying to decrease from that high of a dose down to 30mgs to make the switch to suboxone. High doses of methadone long term have really screwed some people up. Also as a new methadone patient be sure to pay special attention to your oral hygiene. I would reccomed to start using products for dry mouth made by biotene as methadone causes nasty dry mouth at night. Keep a big glass of ice water by your bed and keep your fluids up.
Avatar f tn from it, you are not only in danger of loosing your pain medication from your doctor, but you are in serious danger of accidentally killing yourself. Methadone has a long half life, which means that it stays at a certain level in your bloodstream over a longer period of time . Doubling your dose as you are doing means that you are increasing the cumulative amounts of methadone in your bloodstream and because of that, you can cause your body to develop respiratory suppression , and you can die.
Avatar n tn In my web search, I could find no sites that listed hypoglycemia as a side effect of methadone itself, but hypoglycemia could be happening as a result of other physical changes that may have methadone as a basis. Because of its addictive nature, this is a dangerous drug, and I would make an appointment to see your endocrinologist and talk to him or her soon about any possible relationship between the methadone and the hypoglycemia or high blood pressure.
Avatar n tn The problem with most addiction doctors that prescribe methadone is they give out way to large of quanities of methadone. Most addicts cannot keep their hands out of the cookie jar. I have thought long and hard about this. I need the supervision that the clinic provides. Anyway, every addiction doc in my area will not do the paper work to prescribe methadone. Or they are not confident enough to prescribe methadone.
Avatar f tn we did it a few times but I mines as well be getting my oil changed fro the amount of interest in it eventually I couldn't even keep it up and sex became impossible just know its not you and this happens to most guys after your on it a few3 years on the bright side im 586 days clean and my sex drive has came back with a vengeance in time your hubby will get sick of the program and will quit it I would encourage this to anyone thats been on long term the side effects are not worth the benefits I
Avatar n tn My GP is aware of this, and we are gradually coming of it. But will there be any long term damage to my internal organs? I have never been above 120mg a day. Has this already caused me problems, or is it unlikely? I must say, I originally took this for migraine. . not effective for that now, but still have to take it. All done through my GP and have never experimented with any drugs even tobacco!
Avatar n tn Does Methadone leave the patient very tired? What are the side effects? Just wondering. I think this is a life long plan for now which is why I really want to know what people are like on methadone versus the other pain meds. Thanks for your input. Is it possible to be tapered off of methadone ever - if necessary?
597547 tn?1251040364 I am not quite sure if switching over to methadone is going in the direction of going off of drugs or just going deeper into long term addiction.Research all avenues before you make a decision .We are here to help.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the diet hippy. I will try that. Does anyone know of a good descrete way to eliminate Methadone side affects. I've been off it for twelve days now. I'm still weak and just want to know how long this is going to last. Does anyone know when the side affects end for methadone??

Avatar m tn He explained there was a good possibility that I may have to take it for the rest of my life; many of his patients do. He did say that long-term use is usually at smaller doses than I was on (8 mg. to begin with). To make me feel better, to try to make me feel that it wasn't that big a deal, he said something like "You'd be surprised at the people who come in here. Attorneys, all kinds of professional people.
Avatar n tn they had to give him 3 shots of morphine at the hospital to get him calmed down he was in so much there any long term side effects that might come up because of this....if there is a site to go to please send me the other question...could this have killed or hurt him seriously.....
Avatar f tn by taking your needed meds as prescribed. Several years ago there was a study done on the effects of long term opiate therapy. Forest Tennant, MD, who undertook a first-of-its-kind research study evaluating chronic pain patients who had been receiving opioid therapy for 10 to 35 years. I found the results of his study extremely encouraging as should have other patients in need of long-term opioid therapy as well as their doctors, some of whom may have been hesitant about it. Dr.
Avatar n tn I would like to know what are the long term effects of Oxycontin abuse? I was put on Methadone for five days to wean me from the Oxycontin. I felt no symptoms of withdrawl during that whole time. I haven't used in 20 days however for the last four nights I have been sweating so bad that I actually soak the bed. Is this normal? I also experience stomach pain every morning and sometimes through out the day. Thank you very much for your service, Chad P.S.
Avatar n tn Everything you say is the same for me, the effects on my body were extremely fast and I am now more terrified of the effects of the Zydol than the pain from my back (herniated disc). For the first month I thought they were brilliant but then my body quickly needed more and more to stop breakthrough pain and then the other side effects set in. I am trying to go off them cold turkey at moment and it is HELL. I realise everyone has different tolerance to drugs so it will be different for everyone.
Avatar n tn One thing i might suggest, i've been told that exercise is a #1 key to getting through the withdrawals quicker. My husband was in rehab, addicted to oxys (quite a bit too), and also 50 mgs of methadone per day. He was off of everything within 5-days, and felt relatively good. Just had some mild cramping and problems sleeping.
