Avatar f tn I finally seen an oncologist today because of the pathology report showing I had atyhpical hyperplaisa/carcinoma in situ.he said I am cancer free right now, but a high risk of getting breast cancer so he is recommending this medication Evista. Of course there are side effects now what medication doesn't have any side effects right.Has anyone taken this medication of Evista an had bad side effects or has seen great results in preventing getting breast cancer?
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for your response. Osteoporosis is a horrible disease, but many of the treatments have side effects which are even worse. It's not that I don't trust doctors, but they rely on information supplied by drug companies who are out to make a profit. And the long-term effects of some of the drugs used for treatment aren't even known yet. I'm still undecided about taking Evista.
Avatar n tn Hi -- I took tamoxifen to prevent an ovarian cancer recurrence (didn't work) and then went for another opinion after the recurrence trying to prevent breast cancer (my mother died of that, my sister of ovarian) -- she put me on evista as the tamoxifen didn't work.
Avatar f tn The Evista is suposed to help with osteoporosis as well as cut my chances of ibc in half. Since I am prone to hot flashes, doc prescribed Effexor, an anti-deppresant known to combat hot flashes to take along with the Evista. I hate the idea of taking a med to offset SE's caused by another med. I was hoping that my flashes would be gone by now so that I wouldn't get a double whammy of them when I started the Evista. But I think valuable time is going by.
Avatar n tn It is also used to reduce the risk of spinal fractures related to osteoporosis, which is a plus for some women. (It was during studies of the use of Evista to treat osteoporosis that researchers noticed that among post-menopausal women who took the drug there was a lower rate of invasive breast cancer.) In the STAR study,it was found that tamoxifen appears to be superior to Evista in primary prevention of invasive breast cancer, but it comes at the cost of higher toxicity.
Avatar n tn I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn Fever with joint pains is seen in viral fevers (especially Chickungunya), typhoid, SLE, rheumatoid arthritis, Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) and other auto immune disorders. Localized infection of inflammation of joints can also cause fever and joint pains. A cyclic pattern of fever is seen in EBV or infectious mononeucleosis, malaria, autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, otitis media, endocarditis, IBS, STDs and cancers.
Avatar f tn No, I haven't, sorry. But this was my experience. The first week, or so, I felt like a complete 'zombie', and I think my bones also hurt. Then, it got better. I have all the menopausal symptoms; I cannot sleep, the hot flashes, moodiness, etc. The hot flashes got worse after a few month. I have been taking clonidine, a high blood pressure medication, for it which really helps. It aslo helps you sleep and is very sedating at first, but very short term.
Avatar f tn Hi I too have a very sensitive stomach. Alot of nausea. Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.
Avatar f tn I wanted to know from women in their fifties and sixties if there have been any long term effects from having one removed. Like for instance early osteoporosis or early menopause. Things that the doctors might not of thought of on their own. I would also like to hear from women that haven't had any issues. Thank you so much and God Bless!
Avatar m tn Has anyone had experience with Duavee or Prolia? My doc did not go over the side effects of these but when I looked up Duavee it looked like hormone meds had severe side effects, one being particularly important to women, the increased risk of uteurus cancer. I guess I read that some take progestins with it to help decrease the risks of uterus cancer, but on the warning it says not to mix any additional estrogens or progestins together. Are these meds worth the benefits over the cons?
Avatar n tn The Doctor said I should take Advil for the pain and that things will get better. Everyone that I know has taken themselves off of this med due to the side effects. I am 58 yrs old. and I feel like a 100 lately being on this medication. This discussion is related to Femara.
Avatar f tn However, you may also want to ask your oncologist about taking an osteoporosis drug. I am currently in a phase 3 drug study which is checking the protective effects of osteoporosis drugs to help keep breast cancer from recurring as bone cancer. Early results seem to be very promising. At the very least, taking an osteoporosis drug will treat your osteoporosis. If there is an added benefit - even better! Thinking of you.
Avatar n tn Usually the attending physician gives information regarding the possible side effect of the drug while prescribing the medication. It could also be Arthritis due to many causes. Are you the one suffering with or some one else? Hope to hear you back with these details or consult your doctor. Take care.
Avatar n tn Since radiation is a local treatment, side effects are usually confined to the area being treated. Radiation treatment to the chest may cause problems when swallowing, cough, or shortness of breath and breast soreness and/or swelling. I am not sure which medication your mother is taking, but Evista (raloxifene) can cause muscle cramps of the legs. Please have your mother make an appointment with her physician.
Avatar f tn about the connection between ovarian cysts (which I had) and Evista, she assured me that no absolute link has ever been proven and there are thousands of Evista users.. So, I'm guessing not. I would think that , as Pam said, that HRT would be more likely to be the culprit than "SERM" , which is what Evista is-- means .... Estrogen Receptor Modulator.. can't remember what the "S" stands for.. But it "repels" estrogen ..
Avatar f tn Either estrogen replacement or Evista are good choices in prevention and progression of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Evista may also protect against uterine and breast cancer. If you don't have true osteoporosis, and you are headed in that direction (osteopenia), then estrogen (or Evista) therapy is more appropriate for prevention, than the addition of Fosamax. At the point of osteopenia, Fosamax may be used at reduced doses for prevention of the progression to osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn PPI by suppressing the acid production changes this environment and affects the absorption of calcium resulting in osteoporosis- This is how PPI is believed to cause osteoporosis. But in your case old age could also be a factor. ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice. Avatar n tn My doctor is putting me on Actonel but I am reluctant to start. Side effects are very worrisome... not sure what to do. I have started mega doses of supplements and calcium and D and excercise and I want someone to tell me that that has worked for them. Most comments I get is to take the drug because it's more effective. I can't believe everyone is taking bisphosphonates or other drugs like that. Please let me hear from you if you see this!,,, Thanks, and hope you are doing well!
492490 tn?1255405372 I am now on Doxil after two six cycle rounds of carbo/taxol -- Be aware of the possible side effects of Doxil that the doctors kind of poo poo -- go to Doxil.com and think about using ice packs on ankles and wrists during the infusion. There are also stage III clinical trials for Ovature out there to make you sensitive to platin again -- my doctor also keeps talking about Navelbine as a possible alternative treatment, although my research showed it mainly is used for small cell lung cancer.
Avatar f tn If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes. I have been reading such negative information about the side effects of Effexor, and even worse, the are withdrawal symptoms if you have to get off of it. Is there anyone reading this that actually had to take effexor along with Raloxifene? If so, could you tell me please if you had a good, or bad experience? Thank you for any input.
Avatar f tn I have a real bad stomach, alot of nausea all the time. My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn How long should a woman stay on Evista if no negative side affects?
