Common Questions and Answers about Side effects of aricept and namenda

aricept

Avatar n tn t mean at all its the wrong medication generally. Its just it has a fair amount of side effects for some people. But as anti-Parkinsonian medications can cause depression and other personality alterations that might be the one. I''d say best to relocate your question to the neurology forum as unless she had depression beforehand, because if it came from Alzheimer's and its neurological in origin the treatment will be very different.
Avatar f tn re in. And at the beginning of Oct, I was thinking it was zero(0) Oct, instead of 1 Oct. And I see shadows that seem to be coming across, like someone is coming up behind me and it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Forgetting that I'm cooking, and leave the stove on and having really vivid dreams. These are some of the strange things going on with me.
Avatar n tn Hi Margypops, Axona is a brand-new prescription therapy launched in March 2009 for the treatment of mild-moderate Alzheimer's disease. As Alzheimer's is marked by a decrease in glucose in the brain (the primary source of food for the brain), Axona acts by providing/metabolizing glucose in the body to act as an alternate source of food for the brain.
Avatar n tn No need to worry. I used to teach classes on different Alzheimer's Medical treatments/medicines and know these meds better than the reps that sold them. Namenda is an add on Alzheimer's medication use to help glutamate regulation in the brain. The standard dose in 20mg a day after titration, so taking three 5mg tablets is not a problem.
1030383 tn?1338460785 ve got, which my face and throat stiffened up real bad, and they gave me a shot of Valium and it reversed the effects, and of course I never took the antipsychotic category of medication again. I didn't even realize at the time that they were giving that type of stuff to me, becuz I sure as heck wasn't psychotic! I was just a tad nervous, is all.
Avatar m tn Is the person having memory problems? If not, why are they taking it? There are lots of drugs that have "off label" uses for lots of drugs so perhaps it was prescribed for something else. The doctor can probably let you know what that is and why it's being used. I don't think it will hurt, but there are side effects in every med and it would be a good idea to check drug interactions, etc. Try Drugs.com. If you cannot speak to the patient's doc, can you call your own?
Avatar f tn She took 5mg nightly for 4 days and during that time she still had a headache, but no side effects. On the 5th day the headaches stopped, but now she's constantly nauseous and woozy. This has been going on for 4 days. Is this just a matter of her body adjusting to the drug?
Avatar f tn Are these mood swings and memory issues somehow related or located in the same area of the brain? Would taking Namenda and Aricept together help? Is there any type of anti-depression/anti-anxiety medication that has been found to work better in patients with MS? I have been on Zoloft, Effexor, and Cymbalta, at the highest recommended doses and none of them seem to help after about 10 weeks. Thank you for your time.
649926 tn?1297657780 ve definitely noticed improvements in my short term memory and attention span. I feel safer driving to work, and I can remember phone numbers and keep track of change at the grocery store. The only real side effect I've noticed is long, vivid, but boring dreams. And sometimes when I go to sleep, I feel like the moire behind my eyeballs is in incredibly high resolution.
Avatar f tn t know anything about that - all I know is that before Aricept, I was in a gray mist, and after five months of Aricept, everything seemed to make more sense. Before Aricept, it was as if I had low water pressure - I just couldn't get enough juice in my brain to put thoughts together. On Aricept, suddenly my brain could make connections. The only trippy thing I noticed was an almost hi-def moire behind my eyeballs when I went to sleep.
Avatar f tn Since the early 1960’s more and more research has been devoted to the NMDA receptors in cell membranes and their involvement in pain as a way of blocking these harmful effects of calcium. Ketamine (a veterinary anesthetic, primarily), dextromethorphan, amantadine, and now Namenda are the best-known medications which have been shown to have such benefits for chronic pain patients. They are the best-known medications which are clinically available to work in such a unique fashion.
Avatar n tn I have tardive dyskinesia which is clinically similar to Parkinson's and I have tardive akathesia which is similar to restless legs syndrome but it would depend on the cause of it. If its clinically similar to Parkinson's, I did not find Bachlophen, Mirapex, Aricept and Requip to be of help but many people do. I was ruled out for Tetrabenzene and Namenda but those have shown to be of help.
Avatar n tn I happen to come across this answer today as I have constant pain for the last few years. I have pain above in my left side of my head above my ear and i have pain on my left side of my neck. I have had trouble with my neck for years. I do not turn my head to the left very well. I have migraine headaches which are completely different then the above pain. I do realize the difference.
Avatar m tn When I was having some serious cog fog, I asked my neurologist for a sample of Aricept. Had to argue with him, actually. It worked! I got back some of my cognitive function - not all, but enough that I felt confident about my decisions. I took it for four months, total. I still have one month left over on the scrip, so if I really need it, I'll have it.
Avatar f tn s having side effects its best you go over them with her Dr. thanks for asking on here and please come back.....
Avatar n tn It has been observed that Aricept improves cognition and function, which includes effects on memory and performing everyday tasks, hence it would have been prescribed. The effect of memory is exerted through one such chemical called acetylcholine. This chemical helps carry messages from nerve cell to nerve cell in the brain. Memory is lost by disrupting these messages between cells. It is thought that Aricept may help reduce the breakdown of this chemical. Hope this helps. Bye.
900662 tn?1469390305 After discussion with MS Neuro and my wife , we agreed that I should start Aricept , it is used mostly for Alzheimer, so its off label and he says it has shown great results. I do have a damaged working memory and slower processing speed, cognitive impairment effects every day in some small way. I won't reveal to any other family or friends that I ve stated this med, I just think I would feel self-conscious about people looking for my errors and mistakes.
147426 tn?1317265632 After I left the exam room, and was checking out, I remembered that I wanted to talk to him about Aricept - I got the attention of one of the nurses, and we went back into the exam room. He looked a little irritated at me! He thought that Aricept would be a bad idea, as it's usually for people with severe impairment - Alzheimers and so forth. There's also those side effects that Heather talked about.
20003388 tn?1515166040 I'm just curious if anyone has been on Namenda and could tell me how long the initial brain fog lasted for you? I just started Namenda yesterday, 5 mg a day for 1 week then 10 mg a day in divided doses. I have memory issues and severe cognitive impairment. I was put on Namenda by a neurologist after a thorough examination. I expect the brain fog from starting Namenda up but am just trying to get a time frame for when I could expect the initial brain fog to wear off. Thanks everyone.

338416 tn?1420045702 Keep us posted--this is encouraging news. The Provigil is helping for the fatigue and actually helps with cognition, but I still have Teflon Brain. I've been on estrogen for a long time, and it hasn't done anything for this. Maybe your stomache issues will settle when your body gets used to the drug (fingers crossed).
