Avatar f tn I'm more worried about the hair thinning right now. I've seen posts about people thinking their hair thinning is a result of the medication. The side effects I've found is a long list and hair thinning has been mentioned. I'm scared to death and beginning to panic about it.
Avatar f tn what dose of acyclovir are you taking? are you taking daily suppressive therapy or just treating ob's as they occur? what testing had you had done originally to diagnose you? does your partner have hsv2? if you don't tolerate acyclovir, you won't tolerate valtrex most likely.
Avatar n tn I am currently in a long term relationship, fully disclosed sexual history - but I am resisting suppression therapy. In a previous relationship I tried this for a year and found the side effects to be horrible - confusion, anxiety, agitation, poor typing skills, eye-blinking and muscle flickering. I want to avoid passing the virus to my partner, but I cannot live a happy life with the side effects of Accyclovir.
Avatar n tn I cannot say that I know much about your situation, but I'll give you some of my thoughts if that helps. I know a little girl who had it and although I don't know what treatments she received (I'm as close as family but try not to pry) I believe she at least had a topical cream. I suspect that her immune system kicked in and it's no longer an issue.
Avatar f tn The reported side effects of acyclovir include hallucinations, psychosis, lethargy, mood changes, and confusion. However, most of these occur in much higher doses than yours. Also, I stress "reported"; cause and effect is unclear. The specific words you use -- mood change, irritability, and depression (which is what your sympoms, as a group, suggest -- as you probably know) have not been described, but I suppose it is possible.
Avatar f tn With all the stress in my life these days, my outbreaks have become much more frequent and for whatever reason, I am now having some unpleasant side effects from acyclovir, like headache (tolerable), weird taste in my mouth and excess salivation, and a heavy feeling in my legs and arms.
Avatar f tn sadly enough i was just diagnosed with herpes a couple of days ago so they have me on the three times a day 400mg of acyclovir for ten days. i know a side effect of this is drowsiness - does anyone know if this continues with the daily suppressive valtrex? once a day 500mg. may sound petty to some that have other more serious concerns, but its my biggest now because its killer and i have two boys to take care of!
Avatar f tn give the acyclovir a try - you get less active acyclovir with plain acyclovir so you might have less side effects. You also can try famvir too.
Avatar f tn t tolerate valtrex. I do however tolerate acyclovir quite well. what side effects are you experiencing? what dose of valtrex are you taking?
Avatar f tn I have been taking Acyclovir 800mg for herpes in my ear canal. Since I have been taking it I have noticed a sudden change in mood - extremely irritable, angry and tearful, also very tired and generally feeling unwell. I'm wondering if this is a side effect of the medication, as the change in mood is so sudden.
Avatar n tn His teacher and myself (my son too) have noticed a postitive change in his work output at school and during homework sessions. Two of the side effects are of great concern to me. My son can't sleep until well after 10:30 pm. (we are trying Melatonin, but haven't found the right dosage). The other side effect that is most troubling is the loss of appetite. When we went to see his specialist, 6 days ago, he'd lost 4.5 lbs (in 40 days).
Avatar f tn Acyclovir is one of the safest drugs available. In initial research with it, side effects were identical in frequency and severity with those reported by control subjects taking placebo, and there is nothing in your symptoms that suggest acyclovir is the cause. Taking lots of fluids won't hurt, and will keep your urine less concentrated (hence less coloful), but there is no need for extra fluids while taking acyclovir.
Avatar f tn their provider needs to better educate himself on acyclovir. we start children on oral acyclovir suppressively from month of age upward as needed. no need for any labs or anything either from it. the arginine/lysine theory never panned out outside of the lab actually. They are even using arginine to treat herpes in research now. Children drink a lot of milk which balances it out anyways. at this point I'd seek out the advice of a pediatric dermatologist for your son.
Avatar f tn hi, jenifer1303 I think you have side effects with acyclovir. In most cases, people have no side-effects with this treatment, but it may occur in rare situations. Need to meet your doctor, again.
Avatar f tn Acyclovir is also approved for use in children, is available in some countries over the counter in cream formulation for herpes labialis, and has been monitored in over 1000 pregnancies. Safety monitoring data from clinical trials of valacyclovir, involving over 3000 immunocompetent and immunocompromised persons receiving long-term therapy for HSV suppression, were analyzed. Safety profiles of valacyclovir (</=1000 mg/day), acyclovir (800 mg/day), and placebo were similar.
Avatar m tn I just asked if there were side effects. He said that there could be some anxiety because it crosses the blood brain barrier and I just thought that drugs that did that could potentially be more harmful. That's why. I take Lamictil for a type of bipolar that is classified by some as soft bipolar or part of the bipolar spectrum and sometimes experience anxiety (not often) and I was concerned about about the anxiety part as well. I also take a low dose of Wellbutrin.
Avatar n tn you been reading info from the 70's? no, you aren't going to get ribavirin to treat herpes. it also doesn't cure herpes. acyclovir works much better, much cheaper and has less side effects and long term risks.
Avatar n tn He had prescribed me 400mg Acyclovir (3x for 5 days) BUT NOT to be used in this episode of OB due to the following - Acyclovir is only effective in the first 48 hrs of symptoms and when i saw him, it was day 3. He said it will not be effective at all when taken this late. I have requested for suppressive medication and he said that those are for people with more than 9 outbreaks of more per year.
Avatar f tn My main concerns are price, effectiveness, and side effects. Has anybody know of any serious side effects for taking these anit-virals for a year? I know it varies from person to person and it can be hard to gauge, but how much of a difference does the therapy treatment make in your life? Also any tips for finding a good price? I saw an excellent post on this site a few days ago about buying the medicines, but I am having problems finding it now.
Avatar n tn I belong to a support group for teachers and parents of children suffering from anxiety. Many of the children take medication - including Celexa. About four children in our group are on this medication (all in conjuction with intervention and/or therapy). For these children, this "drug" seems to work the best with the fewest side effects. Our child takes Celexa - before that Prozac and Effexor. Celexa is the best one for her - so far.
