I dont disagree that you should be tested, an std can be harmful. frankly I think hiv testing should be mandatory also during pregnancy. But people should know just because this is what should happen it is not always the case.. my OB asks if i can leave a urine sample at each visit but they dont make me like say if i didnt have to go or something they wont try to make me drink to get a sample we just move on.
Im actually taking up a new career where you undergo mandatory HIV testing. My blood was collected Thursday of last week. I was told no news is good news and preliminary results are available to the employer 24-72 from the lab. Today is Tuesday haven't heard anything yet. Should I begin to feel good about my situation?
"What to believe" should not be such a big problem if you limit your web searching to professional (or professionally moderated) websites, such as those run by health departments, CDC, an academic institutions. Sites run by and for infected people or those at risk sometimes are dominated by people with atypical experiences or high anxiety and can be very misleading.
I agree with this comment. So many babies are born going through withdrawals, that drug testing is mandatory. And if you've been smoking your whole pregnancy, your baby is more likely to be born low-birth weight and with respiratory issues.
Please, if you love this child, tell your doctor what you've been doing. Be an adult...you're going to be a mommy now, and you need to stop taking drugs so you can be there for your little one.

From PA... doctors are not allowed to test a woman for drugs unless they have her consent. They should not be testing her for that at the doctor. That's just a scare tactic.
However, if she goes into labor and the hospital feels she may be under the influence of something they can test the baby at birth... for baby's safety.

you should both cover your full std testing bases actually. gonorrhea, chlamydia and trich can be tested for anytime after 1 week after you had other partners last. syphilis after 6 weeks. herpes, hiv and hepatitis after 3 months. it only makes sense to do so so that there aren't any surprises later on as well as should you chose to have other partners again in the future, you need to be able to let them know that you are sexually responsible and share test results with them.
I would do anything to take this back as the guilt i felt aferwards cannot be described. I am a safe individual and i only have one sexual partner, my girlfriend. I have gone for my routine hiv/aids test and the results have been negative always. I can't stop thinking about it and i keep reading blogs, forums and stats and i have convinced myself that i have hiv/aids. My questions are:
1) what is the minimum window period time to wait before going for an accurate hiv/aids test?
