Common Questions and Answers about Severe heartburn or heart attack

heartburn

Avatar n tn He took Prilosec OTC once a day prior to his heart attack for heartburn/reflux. Since his heart attack and stent, his heartburn/reflux has become much more frequent and severe. His doctor prescribed Protonix 40 mg once a day, but he still has to take antacids throughout the day to try to control it. Has anyone else experienced this and how did you resolve it?
Avatar n tn It could be. I was talking to one of my friends who is only 15. He describes that he gets the exact same thing on occasion. We seem to agree that when we breathe in it hurts so we have to breathe in slightly and breathe out more until the sharp pain subsides, which is usually after about a minute. Honestly, I'm pretty convinced now that it's heartburn since my friend described that he gets it too.
1814992 tn?1316890851 Im not sure if it heart attack or heartburn or something else. I didnt experience any shortness of breath, dizziness , fainting . I even think that it could be nerve demage . I dont know... WHen I looked my throat in the morror, I see little red veins has appeared . Doctor checked only my blood pressure which was normal and refused to do further checking of heart , telling that I might be very young to have heart attack.
Avatar n tn off and on for a few weeks i have had a weird numbness type of feeling in my upper arms, it comes and goes. and in the last year, little heart flutters that stop me in my tracks, not so much as hurting, but "what is going on" then it quit.
Avatar f tn I got into the bathroom and I did throw up. Is this acid reflux or possible heart attack. This is the first time this happened, the heartburn went away right after.
Avatar f tn my heart rate is 113 its not normally that high and i don't know if i have heartburn or chest pains, i had a drink yesterday and i suffer from panic attacks do you think this is the reason
Avatar n tn However, I just wanted to know what severe heartburn can feel like. And how do I know if my symptoms are severe heartburn and not something like a heart attack? I never have any major pains in my chest, usually discomfort and burning pains. My heart also feels like it is going to beat right out of my chest and it occasionally flutters, the latter happens when I am lying down. I also get a weird metallic taste in my mouth whenever the symptoms really flair up.
Avatar f tn Now, I do have acid reflux but it was not heartburn I really panicked there and started to think this is it I am having a heart attack..Ι got a coca cola and started burping. But I have never felt tight chest before so worried. Didn't have any other symptoms with the tightness and pulse / oxygen etcc was very normal. should I go to the cardiologist again?? (Was ok 3 months ago).
Avatar f tn I'm a 34 year old woman (and a smoker, I know it's bad and I am trying to quit) and there's a history of heart disease in my family (my maternal grandmother had her first heart attack at age 28). About 5 days ago I started getting alot of heartburn, 2 days after the heartburn I started experiencing a sudden severe throbbing pain in my left jaw. It wasn't tooth pain and it was deep, not surface pain.
Avatar n tn Does this sound like heart attack symptoms? I have been put on a prescription for beta blocker and given nitro spray, had an ecg, chest xray and blood tests but still waiting for results.
Avatar m tn Heartburn pain can be mistaken for the pain associated with heart disease or a heart attack. Physical activity may aggravate pain due to heart disease while heartburn pain is less likely to do so. Just to add, acid reflux is rarely due to high stomach acid. My mother is free of severe GERD and severe LPR taking betaine HCL with pepsin supplements (increases stomach acid) and digestive enzyme supplements (helps with digestion as well).
Avatar f tn Over the past four months, I have had four severe abdominal attacks during the middle of the night. The symptoms start like a burning sensation in my upper stomach, but quickly become severe spasms (doubling up in pain) lasting up to five minutes, then reside for a few, then come back. The first initial attacks lasted two hours each, but the one I had two nights ago lasted four hours. The pain is so severe that I almost went to the ER, and reminds me of contractions I had during child labor.
Avatar f tn Winnie, under the circumstances I would call a cardiologist (or at least your family doctor) immediately. The increasingly bad symptoms, especially the heartburn, can mean an approaching heart attack. My father was 44 when he had "stomach" problems, and soon died of a heart attack. I am 52, have normal blood pressure, pulse, ECG, etc., but have been having the classic symptoms of stable angina over the last few weeks (and less frequent symptoms for much longer).
Avatar f tn I was blown away by the intial diagnosis as I ended up in ER thinking that I was having a heart attack. I mean, I had heartburn prior to this and the pain I was feeling was not heartburn....even my EKG was abnormal and the ER doc at first thought I was having a heart attack. The intial ER doc gave me a GI cocktail, (which was beautiful) some pain meds and a rx for Prilosec and told me to get into a GI ASAP.
Avatar f tn Drink milk. Milk has started to help my heartburn.
Avatar n tn i was put on nexium over a year ago for very severe heartburn. currently still on it. but if it is heartburn, it obviosly is not doing the job. ive also been told that maybe its severe stress. whats your take on this. i would love to have the tests done just to know, but funds are tight right now.( theyve also mentioned having a endoscoppy) lastly i had a docter prescribe nito spray to me months ago. i never used it.
Avatar n tn Apart from this you should be on maximal medical therapy including beta blockers, ace inhibitors, aspirin and plavix as well as a statin. Is you heart function preserved after the heart attack? It is possible that your shortness of breath is secondary to systolic dysfunction and not only pneumonia. In fact, the so called pneumonia you had could have been congestive heart failure all along and not a bacterial pneumonia at all.
Avatar f tn I get the feeling that the doctors are somehow just looking for symptom that I did not have or am not having a heart attack or stroke when I see them. I am more concerned that it may be indicators that something may happen. I am reluctant to go back to the doctor because with all the tests (I had a kidney infection just before these symptoms started) my medical aid is almost depleted and I cannot afford to pay the doctors cash. What could be wrong with me?
5787844 tn?1376078984 Hunny, the way you are describing it sounds like a heart attack. Usually painful pressure in the chest that goes to the arm and/or jaw is that or a severe panic/anxiety attack. But to not look at the worse possible thing, is baby sitting in a different spot than usual? Could be sitting weirdly on a nerve. Have you broken out in a rash anywhere in that area or on your back? Is your heart beat faster or your blood pressure up?
267076 tn?1270674331 Fibro can cause you to feel like you are having a heart attack when you are not. I started getting severe chest pain and went to family dr for heartburn meds as I thought I heartburn. He asked me to describle symptoms. I told him severe chest pain, hard to breathe, very fast heartbeat, extremeweakness and fine sweating. He said sounded like angina so did EKG. EKG was abnormal & sent me to cardiologist. Had nuclear stress test and Heart was fine.
