Sertraline vs xanax

Common Questions and Answers about Sertraline vs xanax

zoloft

Avatar m tn I too notice a difference in how I feel taking Zoloft vs. Sertraline. I like Sertraline better though because I don't feel as numbed out and my sex drive is not affected.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Xanax now for a year I tried stopping cold turkey when I found out I was preggo I am 12+3 today and still taking them but need help weening off of it I'm concerned that the baby could have deformities but I know I can't just stop due to the risk of seizure Can anyone help me??
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Sertraline (Zoloft) by my doctor. I was told to take half a pill, 25mg. This was a couple months ago. I haven't started taking it yet because I am taking an anti-arrhythmia drug called Pacerone (Amiodarone). I've had two doctors tell me that such a small dose of Zoloft won't interact with Amiodarone. But my other big worry is if it will make my anxiety and panic worse. I've read many posts here where people tried Zoloft and had to stop because it made them worse.
Avatar f tn I don't know how much background there is to the selection of Sertraline, and the idea of "trying out" Xanax makes me nervous and I don't even TAKE any meds at all. Seems to me like the time has come for a consult with a psychiatrist who is more qualified to assess your condition and approprioate medication that the family doc.
Avatar m tn Okay, now I think I know what you are taking, sertraline, which in the states is Zoloft. Plus your Xanax equivalent. These are medications that are often prescribed for OCD, anxiety, depression. The sertraline can have side effects. What are you feeling like? I don't want to list side affects because I don't want you to start looking for particular one. :) How much Sertraline are you taking and how much alprazolam do you take during the day?
Avatar f tn I have severe anxiety and a panic.disorder. I take xanax bars when I'm not pregnant. But pregnant I take low doses of melatonin. Most people use it for sleep but I have a high drug tolerance so I was suggested it by my doc. It works amazing it calms my nerves like my xanax doe. and its all natural and safe during pregnancy. Ask your ob about it.
1533382 tn?1357962152 s) the counselor told me to go see my Dr. and ask him if he would put me on a time released Xanax (xanax er) because it was not as likely to cause addiction. To my surprise, my Dr. told me if they said this and I wanted to try it... he'd be more than happy to let me try it. It turned out to be a life saver. I too felt like I would snap and possibly hurt someone before taking this. After I began taking it, I felt wonderful and it never reversed on me.
Avatar f tn ) Your doc wanted to up the sertraline dose and put you back on Xanax. While that regime MAY have worked for some people, your doctor is obligated to listen to what YOU'RE comfortable with and prescribe accordingly. I would advise you to find a doctor who is well versed in the withdrawal of psych meds and get off the sertraline correctly and begin again. You can discuss using the Xanax on a strictly PRN basis until the new AD has reached therapeutic levels, then leave it alone.
Avatar f tn Hi I have been having some nasty anxiety for about the last month and a half. I have started taking Zoloft-today I raised my dose to 50mg. However I am still feeling very anxious - I become very, very shakey & dizzy etc in fact shakey nearly all day and night. I have been on the Zoloft for 26 days and 21 of them I have taken a 1/2 of a .5mg of Xanax. I don't feel the need to take more than that but I am sooooooo scared of becoming addicted.
1123420 tn?1350561158 I have battled depression and anxiety for years. I've been in xanax and Zoloft. But I stopped when I got pregnant. I'm 22 weeks now and I cant do it anymore. I know this is far worse for my daughter then the pills could be. My doctor gave me my Zoloft back and told me it was safe. Is it? Anyone know first hand? Please help me, I can't go on like this. There right here in front of me but I'm worried for my daughter.
Avatar f tn Currently came off sertraline after five weeks on it it 2 weeks it took the anxiety edge off things then Bang 3 weeks of hell started venlafaxine 37.5mg Tuesday just gone and upped to 75mg Friday anxiety is sky high this weekend and had loads of crying out burst my anxiety is awful in the mornings after taking a zopiclone for sleep I was just wondering if anyone has had anything like benzodiazepines to help with there venlafaxine start up to get you through the first rough couple of weeks?
Avatar n tn Just curious why you switched from Klonopin to xanax? Xanax seems to be a little stronger but wears off quicker and more abrubtly. Klonopin helps more with breakthrough anxiety in my opinion. A good friend of mine had to switch from Xanax to Klonopin because they were feelign withdrawals from xanax during the day...especially if they waited an extra hour or so to take their dose because they forgot.
Avatar f tn Anyone else experience excess sewating on sertraline been on it 10days now 8days at 50mg an 2 days at 100mg I.
406886 tn?1202068581 Paxil is indicated for long term use, while Xanax is not. Do not increase Xanax - you risk developing a tolerance and it will likely become less and less effective. I'd investigate an alternate SSRI rather than increase the benzo. You'll regret it later if you rely on the X. Best Wishes.
Avatar m tn i went to my primary care doctor and she gave me lexapro and xanax. i tried the lexapro for a couple days but hated it. it gave me the worst panic attacks i've ever experienced. i stuck to just using the xanax when i needed it, whether it was one at night, or one every other night. i was on .25. i thought i would get better on my own but clearly that was not the case. 6 months later, i am now seeing a psychiatrist.
94902 tn?1330479667 Just wondering if anyone is pregnant and taking either Zoloft (sertraline) or Toprol XL (metaporpolol). I currently take both - one for anxiety and the other because I have PVCs and tachycardia (which causes the anxiety). I am now estimated 6 weeks pregnant, and am having to make the decision about wether or not to come off my meds. I am in the process of weighing my pros and cons, but wonder if any other moms have been on any meds while pregnant. I would appreciate any input.
Avatar m tn I do not know if there are less side effects than xanax. I do know, however, that xanax is only supposed to be prescribed for short term use and as needed. Klonopin is for long-term daily use. I am sure someone will post here to help you.
Avatar m tn I am not too familiar with Klonopin but many people have switched from xanax to that..my thought about it though is that you say you are taking it to sleep. Xanax is an anti anxiety med and not very useful for sleep. i would consider tapering off it completely and try a med for sleep. I have taken xanax for many years and at one point was on @7mg..but I successfully weaned off it.
709686 tn?1277432159 It is by far the better and safer choice over Xanax.......but perhaps his kickbacks are greater with the Xanax. One should always consider that when the prescription pad comes out! I would, POSSIBLY, give this doctor ONE last chance to redeem himself. Tell him you do not want the Xanax, that the diazepam is working very well for you, but if he still insists on prescribing Xanax, I would run, not walk, out of his office and find another doctor poste haste!
Avatar f tn Depends on your md but zoloft and wellbutrin( no clue how to spell that) are frequently prescribed to pregnant women. Also depends on how severe the depression is a risks vs benefits thing. As far as anxiety not really sometimes anti depressants help. My md said take benadryl, it doesn't make you less anxious but makes you sleepy...
Avatar f tn I don’t have as much anxiety issue anymore but whenever I try to taper of Xanax, I cannot sleep. When I asked him again, he said keep taking Xanax -XR for three months as he thinks different medications will have other side effects. I took a second opinion and the other Dr told me to taper off Xanax and use Trazodone 50mg everyday. 1mg Xanax is definitely helping me with sleep but I am apprehensive about switching drugs especially the first Dr was emphatic about staying on Xanax.
