Sertraline for weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Sertraline for weight loss

zoloft

Avatar f tn Well done on the weight-loss. I gained 32lb on sertraline (zoloft) and havent managed to shift much at all.
Avatar f tn Since it seems that a common side effect of Zoloft is weight loss, I'd caution you to be very careful to watch your weight, so you don't end up underweight, which comes with a whole different set of problems than being overweight. At 120 lbs, you underweight for all but small framed women of 5'5".
Avatar m tn I am on Sertraline and other antidepressants for many years. I just had sexual intercourse 1 year back and cannot feel any sensation in my penis. I have had sex around 20 times in the last one year as I have an on/off gf. I have no problem in getting an erection. There is very little sensation of pleasure and mild sensation of some heat in the vagina during intercourse. I cannot change the anti depressants , like moving to Welbutrin. Please advise if I can take anything before intercourse.
Avatar n tn As you can see, Effexor is amongst the least likely to cause weight gain, and in fact, is known to contribute to weight loss. You may wish to try an alternative on the list above. It is unclear why anti-depressants cause weight gain. Here are some possibilities: • Overeating, as a result of depression, can cause weight gain, esp if the person had lost weight in the pretreated depression • Most anti-depressants, mood stabilizers and antipsychotics are also anti-histamines.
1910757 tn?1348683319 Thanks so much for the updates. So sorry that the different brand of the Sertraline didn't work for you. Parents can be a challenge. They can come across too strongly in their concern for you, which can just feel overbearing. Just know that my best friend and I have tapered off Effexor more than once each and have never had the bad side effects from going off of it very gradually.
Avatar n tn Not all SSRI (like Paxil) cause weight gain for all patients. But one study suggested that there might be differences in weight gain due to the different types of SSRI. Paroxetine (Paxil) may be more likely cause a significant weight gain than other drugs of this type (like fluoxetine or sertraline). Studies about citalopram found no significant weight changes for most patients (but a minority of about 5% of the patients had a weight gain of more than 5 kg).
1872071 tn?1320287532 I was just curious. I started 12.5 mg of zoloft (sertraline) 10 days ago. I didn't taper down to that or anything its just the dose my dr gave me due to my sensitivity to meds. Since then a bad insomnia issue has gotten worse and I also notice my appetite is less but I seem to be getting a bit bigger in my tummy. I am very very petite so I noticed it right away. Has anyone else taken a tiny dose of zoloft like 12.5 mg and noticedweight gain?
Avatar m tn s the better choice for now) and she told me to take sertraline for a month to see If I get the wanted improvement. That was some time ago, I didn't take the sertraline then because I felt kind of scared about it because I read it is an antidepresive and I'm not depressive. Later I talked about it with a couple psychiatrists on the internet and my psychiatrist, they all told me not to be scared about it, they told me it was just to help something related to serotonin.
Avatar f tn t make you gain weight, but he promised me I would actually lose weight on Sertraline. It is really important for me to not gain any weight, and actually continue to lose. I will not be able to handle it. Since yesterday, I've been constantly thinking and worrying about this. Honestly, I rather be depressed and miserable and have anxiety attacks that result in trips to ER, than to gain the weight I've been kicking my butt to lose. I am so worried about it.
Avatar n tn I was not on it for weight loss it was for other reasons. But you are correct if you want to continue to smoke you can guarantee yourself you will have the munchies. Now what I had been doing and it does seem to work,... If you going to get high or take edible. Have something ready to eat that is healthy. Rather than chowing down a half gallon of chocolate ice cream, have a couple tuna sandwiches pre-made.
Avatar f tn Was on citalopram for 21 years and everyone I know put weight on. When I swopped for rhodiola rosea for a year I lost 5 stones. Some are def worse than others for weight gain. Contrary to popular beliefs I gained on fluoxetine too. Off antidepressants I'm about 8 half stone.
Avatar f tn I am sure there are other people on here who may have taken anti-depressants and had weight loss. I know if you ask doctor, they are no help. I suppose they are not interested if we gain weight.
Avatar n tn I started to take invega because risperidone was making me gain a lot of weight. I changed but I can't lose that weight. I was already taking sertraline I still take it. I stopped having my period when on invega and Pregnancy is not on the table already done the test. Can anyone help me?
Avatar f tn so you can see that this kind of situation, after an HIV scare, happens with some regularity around here. People have very severe symptoms, weight loss, swollen nodes, even some abnormal bloodwork, all kinds of very real symptoms. In the end, there was not a thing wrong with them, except anxiety. I just feel so badly for people that waste so much time chasing this elusive illness, to the point they make themselves sicker.
Avatar f tn Zoloft is frequently requested by women BECAUSE of it's weight loss side effect. I've been on Zoloft nearly a year and have lost almost 15 pounds, but I still eat like a mad cow! While I think it's important to have your thyroid checked, I don't think it's necessary to see a specialist just yet. Your GP can order simple blood tests that will indicate to him/her if a specialist is needed.
Avatar m tn He had been taking 150mg of Levothyroxine for his thyroid and then prescribed sertraline for his anxiety and chest pains. A month after taking the two, he began to suffer from severe panic attacks and then manic and psychotic episodes. He ended up being sectioned to hospital for 3 weeks. The diagnosis was that he had a predisposition to bipolar disorder.. I am strongly convinced that the interaction of the medication prescribed by the doctor.
Avatar n tn Ask the doctor why you are on Lurasidone, if you don't know. I doubt it requires you to eat an extra 400 calories, maybe it just requires you to eat with the medication, which of course you could remove elsewhere from your diet. Sertraline (like a lot of other antidepressants) can be supplanted if you get on a good exercise regime. (Exercise tests better in clinical studies than antidepressants.) On he other hand, when I was on Zoloft, I didn't gain weight.
612551 tn?1450022175 Happily, no serious side effects but the fatigue is also present due to bereavement/grief struggle and that may the main driver for fatigue, Sertraline may eventually reduce that depression-type symptom, fatigue. Welcome any experience on how long it took to notice: 1) benefit, 2) decrease in side effects. Yes, I can search the web but look form the personal touch of a living patient telling of their experience.
415867 tn?1323365503 In fact, Meridia, a weight-loss drug, is an SNRI. Another SNRI, Effexor, has no weight-loss properties, but it is an antidepressant. This shows that tiny changes in chemical structure can have big effects on the brain. I take Wellbutrin which is a SNRI, I have no loss of sex drive what so ever, and while I have put on weight I don't think it is related to the drug. I think it is related to my eating habits in that I eat crap all the time and need to knock that out of my diet.
