Recently, I had a bad virus and got bronchitis, its haning around pretty good (since October 2008). I take Serevent (it works for me) but due to the virus I have developed several nodules throughout my lungs and having difficulty breathing. My doctor gave me Advair. I am concerned. I take Azor for high blood pressure, I also have been exposed to TB (1987 took INH and B6 six months) I also have lactose intolerance, I take enzyme for. Should I take this medicine?

I was on it for over a year and then they switched my meds around to what they are currently because I was still having alot of problems with my symptoms...Flovent, serevent (essentially advair), singulair, zithromax and xopenex ( I am on several others but these are specifically for my asthmatic problems). Yes, there are. Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) is one and Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) another. Each is a bronchodilator and capable of giving good relief of shortness of breath.

Flovent is a corticosteroid for inflammation and serevent is a long acting bronchodialator. Serevent is the drug that can interfere with heart rhythm. When I started having symptoms in April, I stopped using Advair and now I only use Flovent. When I saw my pulmonologist I told him that I was only taking flovent (he had given me a prescription for both to use when my asthma got really bad.) He agreed with my decision.

I am using combivent(4x a day ) and serevent diskus 50mcg 2x for my moderate severe copd, I have just started Flovent 50mcg inhaler. Is this OK or should I cutdown on the combivent ?

If you do need a LABA as well, Serevent comes as a stand alone ICS. An LABA should always be used lin combinationwith ICS by asthmatics wheter in a combination med or as two stand alone meds. I hope that helps you. God bless.

There are reliever inhalers which work for up to 12 hours after taking each dose. They include salmeterol (brand name Serevent) and formoterol (brand name Atimos). Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.

Might look into other long-acting beta agonists. Serevent is the LABA that is in Advair (Formoterol is available as Foradil. Salmeterol is the LABA in Advair). It's basically Flovent and Serevent in one Discus or inhaler. Symbicort is another combination steroid/LABA (Pulmicort + Formoterol). I don't know if any combination of those options would be better from a price perspective. Haven't heard of muscle cramps or menstrual effects with Pulmicort.

It is also possible that some of the symptoms you describe, such as headache, shakes, racing heart, were caused by the other ingredient in Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) called Serevent® (salmeterol). Many of the symptoms you describe occur with panic attacks and are relieved by leading a healthy life style. If that alone doesn't control the panic attacks, there is good, effective medicine for treatment of panic and you should request it from your doctor.

The inhaled steroid Flovent® (fluticasone propionate) has a half life of around 5 hours, so it would be totally out of your system in a few days. The inhaled long-acting bronchodilator Serevent® (salmeterol) has a similar half life, so it would be totally out of your system after 5 days. When steroid side effects occur, they may linger for weeks or even months after the medicine has been stopped.

If a person is treating with the PI drugs and fails to get SVR.does it mean that you cant use the PI`s ever again.this is what im gathering from what ive been reading ...looks like its do or you know what....man...sometimes i wonder how i deal with all thie stuff.

Maybe one day they will use the PI as maintenance for the ones who dont respond to SOC and PI drugs.Ive heard of aids people liiving a lot longer now because of the PI`s too.Some are with aids for 25 years and still doing ok. Ok, I was confused. I stared on Serevent not Singulair, I have both and keep trying to figure out what is the safest and best line of action for me. The cortosone has been my best friend at keeping the lungs cleared of secreations (sp?). Serevent has some real health issues that concern me, but so far it has been very helpful for me. That is interesting to note that Singulair can cause depression. I wonder if that would be a good choice for me along with the cortosone?

I knew it would work! They want me to extend out to 52 weeks, though. I already decided to take myself off the study after the 12 weeks of the study drugs. My job is on the line, I start Grad school in the fall, and I've had just about every side effect there is from the SOC drugs. It would have been nice to get the PI in the beginning, but it didn't happen. I was still detectable at week 16 on those 2, and they are the ones causing me to be so sick! OK, done with my rant.

He was told to do laser PI to prevent the glucoma first. Just wonder if the laser PI is needed and is it will worsen the catarct situation since he plans to have the cataract removed at least 6-9 months later.

I was thinking about this recently. If somebody try's a PI, and fails / builds resistance to that PI, then re-infects somebody else in the general population with Hep C - won't the disease gain resistance to that PI? The new mutation could spread, and become the standard for Hep C (given the new resistance, will make it live longer). Are PI's a short term fix, that the virus will eventaully become resistant to?

If your talking about the third drug being the PI as info they have not been approved for genotype 2, 3 and 4. If you are genotype 1 some insurance companies will initially deny the PI because it is so costly. Your doctor will have to start an appeal process with the insurance company which may take a little time but usually in the end the PI is approved.

I vote for boceprevir since it has a 4 week lead-in before starting the PI. If you clear in the first 4 weeks of TX, you are responsive to interferon and do not need to add a PI with all its extra side effects and risks.

It has been trending downwards, but appears to be slowing down. I am actually hopeful for the PI. This one is a second generation from Teleprevir and Boceprevir, so I think the hope is it is even better than the other 2. I am hoping to see UND at my next visit on the 16th. The good news is I think I will either have good news meanwhile or go off at 28 weeks at most total. I am actually pretty hopeful for the PI to do it's magic.
