Common Questions and Answers about Serevent asthma

serevent

Avatar m tn Hi, due to asthma sometimes you may swallow air, referred to as aerophagia. This can cause bloating of stomach and consequent breathlessness. Check with your doctor for adequate control of asthma. Ventolin or salbutamol is a rescue inhaler, that means you take this when you have an episode of Asthma. There are reliever inhalers which work for up to 12 hours after taking each dose. They include salmeterol (brand name Serevent) and formoterol (brand name Atimos).
312330 tn?1245176752 Are any of you taking theophylline for your asthma? If so, have you had a lot of side effects from it? My doc is considering trying this, just looking for people's experience.
Avatar n tn Recently, I had a bad virus and got bronchitis, its haning around pretty good (since October 2008). I take Serevent (it works for me) but due to the virus I have developed several nodules throughout my lungs and having difficulty breathing. My doctor gave me Advair. I am concerned. I take Azor for high blood pressure, I also have been exposed to TB (1987 took INH and B6 six months) I also have lactose intolerance, I take enzyme for. Should I take this medicine?
Avatar f tn Flovent is a corticosteroid for inflammation and serevent is a long acting bronchodialator. Serevent is the drug that can interfere with heart rhythm. When I started having symptoms in April, I stopped using Advair and now I only use Flovent. When I saw my pulmonologist I told him that I was only taking flovent (he had given me a prescription for both to use when my asthma got really bad.) He agreed with my decision.
Avatar f tn If you do need a LABA as well, Serevent comes as a stand alone ICS. An LABA should always be used lin combinationwith ICS by asthmatics wheter in a combination med or as two stand alone meds. I hope that helps you. God bless.
Avatar n tn My girlfriend has been suffering with Asthma in the past few years- She was diagnosed when she was 19 - has been admitted to ICU twice and is now on medication to deal with the asthma- the problem is she is experiencing high levels of cholestrol (about 6.20) and she is not obese and watches her diet carefully. The doctors cant determine the reason for the high cholestrol? What can she do ? Your help will be appreciated. Thanks!
746512 tn?1388807580 I'm having a lot of trouble lately with my asthma control now that I've started classes again. I seem to be ultra sensitive now (more than I was last year on campus) of cigarette smoke. I have to walk outside to get to some of classes and if I pass more than one person smoking or get too many wifts in my face, my chest really tightens up and I'm forced to use my rescue inhaler. The problem is this has been an almost daily occurence and I hate taking ventolin that regularly.
Avatar n tn The “near fatal reaction” may have had a component of airway inflammation, that served to “tip-off” your asthma, much as can happen with a severe respiratory infection, such as bronchitis, resulting in what is called bronchial hyperreactivity, a feature of asthma. What you have experienced may or may not be asthma in the conventional sense but be more akin to a condition called reactive airways dysfunction syndrome (RADS). This latter may take weeks, months or longer to eventually subside.
Avatar f tn I have fitness induced asthma, and my doctor put me on advair or something like that. And the next few days after taking it, I got really bad chest pains when I'd run. Has that happened to anybody else? Should I worry?
Avatar n tn I am using combivent(4x a day ) and serevent diskus 50mcg 2x for my moderate severe copd, I have just started Flovent 50mcg inhaler. Is this OK or should I cutdown on the combivent ?
Avatar n tn My worry is that I seem to be developing the same problems as my mother. I have been diagnosed with asthma and allergies and am taking medications for these . I am taking Alvesco and Uniphyl for my asthma and am in my second year of injections for my allergies [ pollen, trees, grass, ragweed and cats]. I have started a fitness program and a weight training program to help build up my cardio and aerobic strength. In spite of all this my Dr.
Avatar n tn I am not sure how the Topamax will effect your asthma because I am not a doctor nor do I have bad asthma. I was on 100mg of Topamax for about a year. Of course as with all medicines they effect everyone differently but Topamax worked great for my migraines however it made me incredibly tired and stupid. Not just dingy but scary stupid. Tons of memory loss, couldn't place simple words or names and an all around feeling of not being there. I am no longer on it due to these side effects.
Avatar m tn I used to smoke a lot of marijuana to help cope with my social anxiety issues but the problem is I was born with asthma. This obviously did not make for a good combination. Even though I could barely breathe at times I still smoked the marijuana until it got so bad I had to rush to the University clinic and get hooked up to the breathing machines various times. Finally, I decided to stop and ever since I stopped I have been constantly hacking....I mean all day hacking....
Avatar n tn Yes, there are. Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) is one and Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) another. Each is a bronchodilator and capable of giving good relief of shortness of breath.
Avatar n tn I have suffered with lung problems for the last 2 and a half months. I have been a heavy smoker for 12 years (from age 18 - 30), although have now quit and despise tobacco. 2 and a half months ago (and notably after smoking heavily) my lungs felt horrendous and really frightened me. I had no fever but lots of mucus and severe shortness of breath. The doc tried me with a blue inhaler which didn't help.
Avatar n tn Hi. My name is Nannar and I'm an 18 year old male. I always have a rapid heart rate (85-135), literally all the time. My heart rate can be from 90-120 beats per minute even when sitting down in a chair. When I exercise, I get shortness of breath after a few minutes. I have trouble breathing all the time too. On top of that, my anxiety causes my heart to beat even faster when I begin to worry about it.
Avatar n tn I am a 50 year old female with a history of allergy induced asthma since age 25. I participated in allergy shots at National Jewish (I live in Colorado) for years and benefited from it to the point that I no longer needed asthma meds except during a viral or bacterial infection. During those times I used Qvar for several weeks and albuterol PRN. My general health is decent. For the past year and a half I have started having more allergy issues (the shots were at least 10 years ago).
Avatar n tn The inhaled steroid Flovent® (fluticasone propionate) has a half life of around 5 hours, so it would be totally out of your system in a few days. The inhaled long-acting bronchodilator Serevent® (salmeterol) has a similar half life, so it would be totally out of your system after 5 days. When steroid side effects occur, they may linger for weeks or even months after the medicine has been stopped.
Avatar n tn This would include a long-acting bronchodilator, such as Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate), Foradil® Aerolizer™ (formoterol fumarate inhalation powder) or Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) along with an inhaled steroid. Another potentially helpful, oral medicine is called theophylline. Your doctor may also want to prescribe this. You should have your blood oxygen level checked, in case it is low and you would need supplemental oxygen.
