Seizure vs epilepsy

Common Questions and Answers about Seizure vs epilepsy

Avatar n tn I wonder if I didn't have a TIA. I don't think anyone considered this. How likely was it that this was a TIA vs a seizure? I am afraid that something is going to happen again, and that it could be worse. What is the liklihood of this happening again?
Avatar n tn Migraine headaches can be associated with epilepsy. They can either come before or after the seizure event. These types of headaches are temporally related to the seizure event and for the most part do not occur without the seizure event.
914634 tn?1243088512 syncope (or seizures precipitated by syncope) is to do an EEG during an actual episode, which often requires admission into an inpatient epilepsy monitoring unit to capture the events. Your childhood epilepsy may or may not be related to your current episode. A certain amount of people who had epilepsy in childhood may be seizure free for sometime and then have their seizures recur. However, some may be seizure free for life.
Avatar n tn Does sound like a genetic abnormality as both twins have similar seizure patterns. Type of seizure is important (generalized or grand mal vs focal or partial) as to treatment and cause. Full workups whould be done including specialized MRI protocol specifically for epilepsy to look for any tiny malformations that could potentially be removed or structural lesion that needs further evaluation. WIth the recurrent seizures, they willl likely need to be on long term therapy.
Avatar n tn I am betting that you need your seizure medications because you have epilepsy. I also bet that the heart problem is related to your weaning off dilantin too fast or maybe it was a finding that is distinct from your heart. You should be further evaluated for the heart problem and whether it is related to your seizures needs also to be evaluated. But, I think I am in the same thought process as your heart doctor who doesn't buy the heart-seizure concept.
1653487 tn?1303527762 It's usually when you're tired, during sleep, or when you're relaxing after a hard day's work/lots of stress that you have a seizure. Kind of when your guard is down, although if you have refractory epilepsy, or occaisional breakout seizures, it is frustrating. I often have had seizures while asleep, or while I play piano, actually. When "relaxing" so to say, but one can never predict 100%.
Avatar n tn She doesn't remember what happens after she comes out of it, but during that time she doesn't have any type of jerky movements. Is this a seizure? What should I do for her when this happens? Is there any support groups or place where I can get more information? Thanks!
94007 tn?1224766336 Thats not good. As some of you may remember, he is disabled and on seizure meds which can CAUSE liver damage. How much of that damage comes from the meds its hard to say. He is going to treat in the fall but is switching to another med - Keppra. Is anyone familiar with it? We cant see how he does off the meds because treatment lowers the seizure threshhold. Lots of complications and unanswered questions. That can only be answered by experience - doc is concerned.
Avatar n tn Hi there. I have been seizure free for 4 years while taking Dilantin for my Epilepsy. We don't know why I have it but the med. works so I've stayed on it. If I want to get pragnant I am worried with the interactions the drug could cause. What are your suggestions? Do you think it's time to try to get of the Dilantin? Is there still a possiblity I could have another seizure on/off the med. even if it's been this long? My Neuro. doesn't help much so I would like your opinion.
Avatar n tn I am sorry that you have encountered some problems in your seizure workup. I reccomend that you travel to a comprehensive epilepsy center and be evaluated by an epilepsy specialist. FYI: aggitation and strange activity is common after a seizure and should not arouse concern, but would indicate that you should not be alone when you are at risk for having a seizure. For your own safety and the safety of others, you should not drive, operate heavy machinery or bathe/swim alone.

Avatar n tn I can't believe the hell I've been thru the past 3 yrs! I was diag. with NCS, IST, and mild valvular disease in '99. Then in 2001 had a "seizure" and was diag with epilepsy by abnormal VEEG (sharps and some spikes, not too many, and some slowing). But disagreement between drs. the whole time. This one thinks this event is seiz., this one thinks it's cardiogenic, back and forth. I just had 2nd opine by another VEEG, by another epi and he says he feels I was misdiag with epilepsy.
Avatar n tn Concerning tegratol, I think we already talked about levels and the need to make sure a given drug is at it's optimal level. Furthermore, this type of epilepsy is very difficult to control. I hope I have helped clarify the two epilepsies for you.
403399 tn?1201836695 Seizures (convulsions) have occurred in some people taking tramadol. You may be more likely to have a seizure while taking tramadol if you have a history of seizures or head injury, a metabolic disorder, or if you are taking certain medicines such as antidepressants, muscle relaxers, or medicine for nausea and vomiting. Take tramadol exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take it in larger doses or for longer than recommended by your doctor.
Avatar f tn Does this provide reasonable suspicion that there's something serious happening with my brain (some for of petite mal epilepsy? tumor?)? Or am I experiencing something variably similar to other people and have little to worry about? I figure if I know the stuff I see and think isn't real, I mustn't be diving into psychopathy. Any thoughts? Is it possible I am just acutely aware of my thought processes and have eye strain? I know people hallucinate while under stress...
149087 tn?1258457420 Give me a link that shows this, I find just the opposite to be true. Now if you have epilepsy or an other seizure disorder and Baclofen is controlling it, then yes, you wouldnt stop taking it. I dont think Baclofen alone is used for stopping seizures. It is a muscle relaxant and those in pain can take it and stop and there is no withdrawal. I dont think you mean to use the word ADDICTIVE, that would apply to opiates, cocaine, and the like.
486038 tn?1300066967 My mom's best friend and my dad both have epilepsy or seizure disorders so I know what life is like to live with them. Thanks muchly for posting, I love hearing from ya!
Avatar n tn Hi Ryan, Why did you write to Ellen that Klonopin could worsen her depression? I have been on Klonopin for about a month and a half and I have noticed an increase in depression (I am NOT on any anti depressants). Overall I just roll with it and try and stay positive and I started to get acupuncture along with talk therapy. This week I will see my p-doc and I'm sure all of this will come up in my visit. Do you think Klonopin causes weight gain as well?
Avatar m tn She is very adament about not taking her meds because she has seizures very seldom- and she noticed that she actually had MORE seizures while taking the medication- averaging 3 every year- VS being seizure free for years at a time without ANY meds. My advice? Listen to your body. It is always talking to us. I am a firm believer that just because you have epilepsy, it does NOT by any means, mean that you need to take pills every day-- especially if you can control it WITHOUT meds.
Avatar n tn I guess I am just wondering what is an aura generally like,is the jittery feeling usually assiciated with a side effect of Dilantin vs part of an aura, how long auras last, if they most generally lead to a seizure, if smells are common and if they are always the same smell?
