Avatar f tn Hello everyone, I am new here, I have been on the MS and Lyme forum but have had some questions regarding the type of seizures that I have. I was dx'd with simple partial seizures after having 5 abnormal EEG's. According to my Neuro. .. the slurred speech that I have had that would last up to two weeks long are a seizure, and that my brain is misfiring and getting stuck for two weeks. Just wondering if any of you have ever heard of that?
Avatar n tn He has been taking two types of seizure meds and they kill his memory and even make him a bit dingy. We thought the meds were preventing his seizures untill two nights ago when he had one, and unluckily i wasn't with him so we dont know exactly what happened, but he obviously got up and tried to walk around because he busted his left eyebrow up (there is an open wound) and he has a huge goose egg above his right eye. He also got a fat lip.

Avatar n tn It can be a simple or complex seizure wherein awareness or memory may or may not be affected. Patients with simple focal seizures do not lose consciousness and remember the events that occur at the time while patients with complex partial seizures will have abnormal consciousness and may or may not remember the seizure. Other symptoms include abnormal muscle contraction, repetitive movements, abnormal sensations, nausea and changes in mood or emotion.
211940 tn?1267881266 Oh Socrates, this sounds like a very frightening experience. I can't help but wonder if your muscles are sore today after all that erratic movement. It must take a toll on you emotional too, especially if these events are occurring with increased frequency and lasting for hours. This sounds very much like a simple partial seizure to me. I know that nothing about this is simple when it's happening to you! That's just the name they are given.
Avatar f tn m suffering from extreme spells of dizziness, often leading in loss of consciousness, or vision and feeling in my body. Two years ago, It resulted in a seizure. Before each spell I feel extremely light headed, dizzy, shaky, and disoriented, I lose the feeling in my body, and I lose the ability to talk, and I can not think clearly, a lot of nausea, and it's very hard to breath. I don't always lose consciousnesses completely, but it's like I my entire body shuts off.
Avatar n tn , who might have apparently tiny flaccid penises that grow to a normal erect length. Both types are perfectly normal.
Avatar f tn These involuntary jerking can be myoclonic jerks which can occur in head, neck, shoulders, arms, legs and torso. These can occur alone or in combination with seizure types or epileptic syndromes, absence epilepsy, myoclonic epilepsy, etc. Myoclonus is brief involuntary twitching of a muscle or a group of muscles. It is a medical sign suggestive of underlying nervus system disorders like multiple sclerosis, parkinson’s disease, alzheimer’s disease, serotonin toxicity, some forms of epilepsy.
Avatar f tn There are two types of seizures you can consider. Temporal lobe seizures can be simple or complex. Simple seizures are when the child is aware of the surroundings and complex, when he is not. If the teacher means "unconscious" when she says "zoned out", you can consider complex seizures. The question is whether to start medication at this stage or not. The EEG has clearly demonstrated that there is seizure activity.
Avatar f tn Hello thank -you for reading. In december 08 I had a seizure, i guess what would be considered a tonic clonic kind. I experienced another one Feb 12 09. I was sent to a neurologist. I had eeg, sleep eeg and mri. All turned out "normal". From Dec until now I am also having these wierd sensations which are hard to describe..please bear with me. It happens most frequently at night, or im already in bed, although on occasion they happen during the day if im very tired.
1653487 tn?1303524162 No probs at all. It's good you're going to an epileptologist. They know much more than the average neurologist. Great you have all these questions. Since you're new to the epilepsy community, and are learning about epilepsy/seizures, it's good to do as much research as you can, and familiarize yourself with different types of seizures. It's amazing how many different types of seizures there are, affecting b/tw 2.
564065 tn?1216314613 I was thinking seizure-free, but some people would probaly like to keep track of their seizures.
Avatar m tn I don't think people who have a seizure remember the seizure, but he definitely had something. Maybe it's a thyroid problem. He needs to be seen, but an ER is the slowest, most expensive and least efficient way to do it.
Avatar f tn There is no simple, definitive test for a seizure disorder. Often, seizure disorders are diagnosed based on patient history and observation of a seizure. If your daughter had a seizure lasting 30 min., that would qualify for a diagnosis in the minds of many clinicians. I'm sure you'll follow up with the diagnosing doctors and others as necessary. I hope the seizure turns out to be a one-time event.
Avatar m tn ) I think it worries me a bit as last year I had partial seizure where my leg started failing and collapsing and then my whole left side sort of curled up like a bug over that leg and I couldn’t move. I also had a huge disconnect with that leg. I could see it stumbling and failing but I had no idea why. Like the feedback loop was gone. It lasted a few minutes. I went to the hospital and two neurologists later it was diagnosed as a partial seizure.
Avatar f tn Your seizure frequency is such that your quality of life is likely affected by your epilepsy, and although you have not provided a description of your seizure types, based on the fact that MGH felt you were a surgical candidate, it sounds like there was a suspicion for localized seizure focus that would be amenable to resection. Unfortunately, you had a bit of a mishap with your first attempt at subdural grids.
704609 tn?1228738656 For the seizure tracker I would like a tracker that could keep track of how often i have seizures and also a way to keep track of the type of seizure the person has. I have four different types of seizures plus I have auras. Also a place to note whether an injury occured from the seizure would be nice. I have given myself concussions from the worst seizures. I also take xanax when I get an aura (when I feel a bad seizure coming on) so a way to track that would also be nice since it is related.
Avatar f tn Sometimes seizure activity can spread to the entire brain, called a secondary generalized seizure. There are over 30 specific types of seizures, too much to describe here, of course. I had refractory epilepsy for 13 yrs, caused initially by a brain tumor. Had complex partial and secondary generalized seizures, quite often. Brain surgery was the only way for me to get my seizures under control, although I will continue medication indefinitely.
Avatar n tn PLEASE, PLEASE request to have her be seen by a specialist. I cannot imagine this is just a "hormones and lack of sleep" issue. Sounds like some type of seizure. Request a Neurology consult. I know, you may think, a seizure? There are different types other than the one when a person is having a "fit" on the floor. Secondly, any labs and/or tests ordered by the Family Physician/PCP?
Avatar n tn Infections and fever can make an otherwise healthy individual more prone to have a seizure. a single episode of seizure cannot be marked as epilepsy. An EEG to ensure that there are no structural abnormalities in brain. Normal EEG and MRI brain are encouraging though this does not rule out a future episode. You need to consult a physician for investigating any underlying infectious condition, high or low blood sugar, injury, electrolyte imbalance, drug withdrawal syndrome etc.
1466984 tn?1310560608 s and have been diagnosed with simple partial seizures. Apparaently Lyme disease (which is my long awaited dx) is what has caused my seizure disorder, most likely the co- infection of Bartonella, because it went straight to my brain and caused neuro - like symptoms.
Avatar f tn There are some that involve staring off and only last a minute or two. Some involved stiffening of the body only. Google seizure types. The only way to tell if it is a true seizures is having an eeg within 24 hours of the seizure, it will show abnormal brain activity. My brothers seizures always show in the right temporal lobe of the brain. His are controlled now with antiseizure meds. If you have seizures pregnancy can make them worse. You need to see a neurologist for proper diagnosis.
