Common Questions and Answers about Seizure types medication

seizure

Avatar n tn My sister in law who is 25 had a seizure last night. She is in reasonably good health but I suspect that she doesn't always take care of herself. She is some what of a workahaulic. Anyways, I have noticed that sinus infections seem to be one common reason. Is there other types of infections or viruses that can cause this? All her "tests" came back normal. What is it that they test for exactly? I am worried because they just sent her home.
Avatar n tn You are on a high dose now, so tapering slowly and switching to klonopin at the end and some anti seizure medication the very last week is what you have to do, and have all of this monitored closely by your doctor. I would suggest tapering in phases...phase one getting down to the 1 -2 mgs level/day, and learning how to sleep without xanax, maybe substituting some short term use of ambien if necessary.
Avatar n tn I passed out while shopping a couple of weeks ago and one of the bystanders told the paramedics that I had a seizure after I passed out and they wrote in their report that I had a mild seizure. All of my doctors have said that it wasn't a seizure but rather just some twitching which is common when you pass out.
Avatar n tn It worked miracles for me, but after only 5 weeks it allowed my seizure disorder to break through their medication. GIANT BUMMER. But anyway, was wondering about the differences. Anyone know? Thanks, what a great place this is for us heppers ... and how much I appreciate those of you who've gone before us and still come here to help.
1000946 tn?1253811447 I was curious as to what type of medication everyone is taking. I've taken all sorts of anti depressants and meds like lyrica (think these are anti seizure meds) nothing has helped. When I took the vicoden for pain that seemed to be the only thing that helped. I am on no meds at the present time but I'm having a major flare. What is helping other fibro sufferers?
Avatar f tn I have been taking several types of medication through the years for my epilepsy I now take topomax and zonogran and limtical. I have a hard time with my memory staying focused I feel like I am loosing my mind sometimes. Has anyone else had the same side effects?
Avatar f tn However, I have read a few comments saying it can actually HELP with mood swings and bipolar disorder (which she doesn't have). Please comment on this. My daughter has just begun this medication for seizure disorder. She has had seizures several years apart from each other. We originally thought she just 'fainted' but now realize they've been seizures. Also, what is the LOWEST dosage that can be effective of Keppra.
Avatar n tn I've tried several differents types (wellbutrin, lexapro, celexa, prozac, just recently about a year and a half ago...toufrinal, lumictal & ativan. In the last year i've put myself under a lot of stress. Long distance relationship, traveling back and forth to see him, moved to new york. Just a world wind of emotions and anxiety through the whole process. My anxiety was so bad. I stayed there for three months and left.
Avatar f tn It is difficult to address your post without knowing more history of the seizure and your background. However, there is a condition called nonepileptic psychogenic seizure (sometimes referred to as pseudoseizure). These events are paroxysmal. What really determines them from epileptic seizures is that these types will not have EEG changes when the event occurs. Have you had an EEG during an episode? Additionally, studies have shown that up to 40% of these patients may also have true seizures.
1653487 tn?1303527762 I was placed on an anti-seizure medication - Keppra 1000mg and told that I can not drive for at least 6 months... Not a good thing since I am an external marketer for a LTC facility. Luckily my company is working with me (for now anyway)... This past week has been a whirlwind of emotions (and minor side effects from the meds). I have my follow up with the Neurologist on the 13th of April and of course have a TON of questions written down in a journal already.
975514 tn?1325001538 I recently weaned myself off of narcotics, but I suffer from a lot of different types of pain. I have numbness in my foot from some nerve dysfunction sourced from my lower spine. I also have arthritis in my lumbar spine and shoulder. I suffer from tendonitis in my shoulder and arm as well. I have pain that lingers around my body from joint to joint too. one day it will be in my knee, the next day it will be in my hip. I have sciatica.
Avatar m tn There are different types of seizures dogs can have. If he has them repeatedly the vet may put him on medication. Some breeds are more prone to them then others.

Avatar m tn Not sure if I fainted or had some form of a Seizure as I understand there are several types of Seizures. If anyone could give me their opinion, that would be greatly appreciated. I was laying down on couch watching tv. I was doing nothing abnormal or different throughout the day. I got up from couch walked in the kitchen and collapsed on floor face first, with a slight cut above my eyebrow with my right cheek pressed against floor. I was unconscious for approx 1 minute.
Avatar n tn I know a young girl that is 15 years old. She has been having "Seizure like episosodes." She has been to ERs, Doctors, Neurologists, had several tests and no one has been able to completely identify what is worng. She had eegs, ekgs, catscans along with others. Her eeg came back abnormal. Last spring she was struck in the center top of the head with a bat while playing softball. Her ears began rining and she almost passed out later that day. The next day she had her first episode.
Avatar f tn It has been two days since his last seizure but he still hasn't fully recovered, he doesn't know his commands, the people in the house ( including me ), or the other dogs and cats in the house. I want to know if he will even recover from this or if there is something I can do to help. He keeps pacing and whining, even in the middle of the night. Should I bring him in again? Could there be something more serious going on?
Avatar n tn You failed to report if the medication was working. The repeat EEg's are to see the progress of the medication, a holter monitor is used for the heart and the only other option would be a long term ambulatory EEg. These are hard to find in many areas. It hardly seems necessary if the neurologist if doing serial EEg's. It would not show anything different. If the medication isn't working then the neurologist should be told and a medication adjustment can be made.
Avatar f tn Valproic acid is used alone or with other medications to treat certain types of seizure I know you are worried and afraid for your daughter. I have no advice about what to do, just wanted you to know I am hoping all goes well and I am so sorry about it all.
1029105 tn?1252166147 So lately I have been becoming more & more unable to do normal things b/c of bizzare symptoms? Esp when I'm at rest late at night, very tired, in a car, t.v in the dark & loud noises. I get completely dizzy & feel like my brain is freaking out. I can't control anything in my mind when this happens. My heart beats out of my chest & I loose muscle strength almost completely in my right side.
Avatar n tn Video EEG precise characterization of seizure types, which allows for specific medical or surgical management. In addition, the physician is more accurately able to differentiate epileptic seizures from paroxysmal events that mimic seizures, including pseudo seizures. Zonisamide is used in combination with other medications to treat seizures in adults with epilepsy. Zonisamide is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain.
Avatar f tn If someone with Alzheimer’s disease has a seizure, a healthcare provider will perform a careful assessment that includes blood tests, a CT scan or MRI, and an EEG to assess the seizure type and any other underlying cause for the seizure. From these tests, an antiepileptic medication will be selected to help control the seizures.Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
Avatar n tn Migraine headaches can be associated with epilepsy. They can either come before or after the seizure event. These types of headaches are temporally related to the seizure event and for the most part do not occur without the seizure event.
328328 tn?1261682204 I don't do any drugs, just a drink once in a blue moon. My son is 2 now and has had a seizure type attack. He has had them off and on (about 4) since the about 9m old. The first was a vaccume started it. The second was he got in the tub. Nothing sets if off (noise, bang head, etc.) Hes awake and standing, he first screams like he got hurt, he has little control of his body. I hold him his heart is racing to fast, his eyes move back and forth, (both at the same time).
Avatar n tn Good Morning. My 14 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with seizure activity in the left side of her brain after having an EEG. She fainted twice in the spring and after several tests it was determined that she had hypoglycemia. We started feeding her more frequent smaller meals.
Avatar n tn My second question is, could the combination of drinking, the abrupt withdrawal from a benzodiazepine, and the Zprexa (which I have read can lower the seizure threshold), have preciptated his seizure. He has never, ever had severe withdrawal symptoms before; it always seemed fairly easy for him to quit. Thank you. B.J.
911669 tn?1294102788 The doctor ran an EEG and said they saw some light epileptic seizure activity. She also does not want more medication or the risk of pulling her license. Just wondering if these symptoms are familiar to anyone.
Avatar f tn I said all that I was worried about was have a seizure since all the medication I was taking was all anti-seizure medication. She had the nerve to ask me if I read all the pamplets that the pharmacy gave me at the time I picked up my medication. It took everything I had not to reach through the phone and drag her to me. I had to hang up. I am at work and trying as hard as I can to keep it together.
Avatar f tn I have seen three different doctors about my headaches and they have all told me the same thing, that I can not take the "normal" migraine medication for pain, due to the fact that I have hemiplegic migraines. They have all told me that I am to use Morhpine for pain control, which I have been on for the last five years. I use this medication when I have a flare up and do not use it if my headaches are under control.
