401370 tn?1233328282 An EEG may diagnose a seizure or seizure disorder, but a negative one does not rule out a seizure disorder. CT Scan, MRI, blood serum, and X-Ray are also used for diagnosis. There are 10 basic types of seizures and even more when you specialize. What you're experiencing while doesn't sound like a seizure, doesn't rule it out. Lupus effects every single area of your body in probably more significant ways than you know.
Avatar f tn It is difficult to address your post without knowing more history of the seizure and your background. However, there is a condition called nonepileptic psychogenic seizure (sometimes referred to as pseudoseizure). These events are paroxysmal. What really determines them from epileptic seizures is that these types will not have EEG changes when the event occurs. Have you had an EEG during an episode? Additionally, studies have shown that up to 40% of these patients may also have true seizures.
Avatar f tn There are some that involve staring off and only last a minute or two. Some involved stiffening of the body only. Google seizure types. The only way to tell if it is a true seizures is having an eeg within 24 hours of the seizure, it will show abnormal brain activity. My brothers seizures always show in the right temporal lobe of the brain. His are controlled now with antiseizure meds. If you have seizures pregnancy can make them worse. You need to see a neurologist for proper diagnosis.
316350 tn?1193628295 it took me 5 years o get someoneto listen to me. the de a vu part of your seizure is seizure actiity, not just an aura. i had a normal MRI and an abnormal EEG. you need to have a video EEG in the WORST WAY! go to an epileptologist. i vented to mine about how long it took me to get a diagnosis even after i'd told many doctors.. he said "well if all you have in your toolbox is a screwdriver..." look up 'temporal lobe seizures and de ja vu' on the internet.
Avatar f tn Postictal (following seizure) changes can just be part of the effects of the seizure, but these typically last a few hours or at most days. Children with epilepsy can have behavioral changes as a result of their reaction to the diagnosis if they understand it. In addition, patients with epilepsy are at higher risk of developing depression, and in children, this depression may be expressed as behavioral changes and agitation rather than the more typical symptoms of depression.
1653487 tn?1303527762 if you have not had epilepsy for very long, and are just trying to confirm the diagnosis of what types of seizures you have, where seizures are originating in the brain, and if it involves more than one area. For others who have had refractory epilepsy for some time, i.e.
Avatar n tn There isn't alot of information out there on these types of migraines so I just wondered if someone else experiences the same symptoms. I have suffered from headaches since I was a kid, and I am now 31. The seizures didn't start till 5 years ago though, and it is getting progressively worse. My MRI's have been normal, as well as my EEG's, and the spinal tap results got lost and i refuse to have another one.
393986 tn?1303829575 Hello. A seizure is defined as an episode of central nervous system dysfunction. A seizure may or may not be accompanied by convulsions. Your seizures are unusual. Do you lose consciousness when you have the episode? usually convulsions are tonic (only spasms) or tonic - clonic (spasms followed by repeated contractions). An EEG confirms a seizure. Has it been done?
Avatar f tn And diagnosed with seizures- but turned out to be allergic to all seizure drugs- Keep fighting- follow what you think- if he is autistic a diagnosis will get you better services. I unded up not being diagnosed until I was 19- because the diagnosing guidelines changed. And a diagnosis helped to get me social security, a social worker and into the system. feel free to ask me more questions if you need to.
Avatar f tn Valproic acid is used alone or with other medications to treat certain types of seizure I know you are worried and afraid for your daughter. I have no advice about what to do, just wanted you to know I am hoping all goes well and I am so sorry about it all.
Avatar n tn Convulsions in your son do not look like as febrile seizures, but EEG is reported normal which goes with diagnosis of febrile seizure. Febrile seizure is uncommon after 6 years of age, but not absolute. Video EEG precise characterization of seizure types, which allows for specific medical or surgical management. In addition, the physician is more accurately able to differentiate epileptic seizures from paroxysmal events that mimic seizures, including pseudo seizures.
778872 tn?1243744053 Over a month ago an Urgent Care Physician sent me to the ER with droopiness in my face (left side), slurred speech, (I knew what I wanted to say, and was able to say it but the speech was just slurred) numbness on the left side of my face and mouth, slight weakness of arm and leg on the left side, visual deficits (a dark comma shape in my peripheral vision on the left and only able to follow my hand out to about 45 degrees if looking straight ahead.
Avatar f tn I have never come close to any type of diagnosis, and eventually gave up. I had initally written the whole thing off as an unpleasant side effect of being on Paxil, since that's when it started. I gave up the Paxil 3 years ago and hadn't had a problem again since last weekend. The episode starts out with extreme dizziness, room spinning, and I am either forced to sit down, or I fall down.
911669 tn?1294102788 Last night while asleep I think I might have had a small seizure. I must have bit the end of my tongue very hard. I remember it hurt so bad I thought to myself I did some damage, but I was really still asleep. There was no injury, but I am concerned that I might be starting with some type of seizures. I do tend to sleep with my mouth open sometimes I know, but for my tongue to be protruding out suggests something more sinister to me.
Avatar n tn Yes, migraines can make you feel like you are having a seizure and I have seen people go into seizure-like activity with them and vascular disorders. I agree with jcverive that more testing is in order and if there are any triggers a medical testing facility where she can be observed and tested under the proper conditions is in order. There are also some anti-seizure medications that are also used as preventatives for migraines. What does your daughter take?
Avatar f tn Hi, my 17 yro son was found last week, on the ground, across the street from his HS. Apparently he was having a severe Grand Mal Seizure. EMS reported he had been seizing for at least 15 minutes. Verset was administered to stop his seizing. However, he has a history of neg reaction to Versed as well as many other medications. This is due to a medobolic disorder, which causes various reactions and poor metabolizing of all drug's.
Avatar n tn Just wondered about the possibility of a tick-borne disease (there are a good many different types). Some of those can cause substantial joint pain and joint swelling. Might be worth looking into which types are prevalent in the area in which you were camping. You've probably considered this long since, but I figured I would suggest it just in case. Hope your husband feels better soon.
Avatar n tn My sister is having seizure like attacks, her whole upper body tenses and disfigures in painful stiffness, the last one reached her legs and feet, while the attack was in progress she also felt cold trickles down her cheeks. These seizures like attacks last an hour or more and she does not lose conscientious and can comprehend all that is happening to her. Neurosurgeon found a small tumor, 7mm between the brain lining and skull bone and assures her that this is not causing the attacks.
Avatar n tn Today I had a REALLY bad dizzy spell that felt more like my brain was vibrating or spasming. Not sure if other patients with this diagnosis can understand this feeling. After a long...intense dizzy spell I passed out. I could hear my husband and daughter talking and wondering if I was ok...but I couldn't move or say anything. After a few minutes of being "out" I came to and was just there. I couldn't move my left side for quite some time, and I have had dizziness all night.
Avatar f tn This type of seizure usually lasts 2-4 minutes and involves the temporal lobes of the brain, but may also affect the frontal and parietal lobes. If either of these types of seizure spreads to involve the whole brain, your seizure is called a secondarily generalized seizure. The more I looked over the artical - my gut says to get an MRI. If you looked over your TSH readings and they seem to be irratic - definately a check on the pitutiary would be good.
147426 tn?1317269232 I am a 56 year old female. Seven years ago I was hit by intractable vertigo and, despite being treated by one of the world's foremost experts in vertigo, was forced to retire from being a pediatrician. I had very complicated problems in the inner ear on the left. But eventually the problems spread to my right ear also. I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease.
Avatar m tn I was also told that my seizures are non-epileptic seizures. I'm having trouble believing this diagnosis because the Dr. told me it might be due to a traumatic event in my life. I can't think of anything that fits this "traumatic event". Aren't there certain types of seizures that an EEG won't see? I had 5 seizures while being monitored, but no seizure activity on the EEG.
Avatar n tn I was originally treated under the assumption by my family doctor for RLS, but after having a seizure from the use of Tramadol/Ultram, I saw a neurologist who administered to me the sweat test for small fiber neuropathy.
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone!! Well, Here is my update. First I will start off with telling you how the presentation went as my nephew's quest speaker for his LYME report. I was alittle nervous but I did well! My nephew did an awesome job with all of the research he did!! He didn't even have to look at his notes to talk about any of it. After about 10 mins. of him discussing all about Lyme, he introduced me and directed any questions to me. :) Oh yeah, and ....
Avatar m tn Myoclonic jerk---looks just like a seizure...EEG was normal. Feeding issues, gagging Never slept Reflux Poor muscle tone diagnosed in grade school. 2108301 tn?1334038850 Although it started out almost like a small seizure, I heard that conscious seizures like the one I think I may have experienced are called simple partial seizures, but it turned out to be more of a panic attack eventually. I had felt slight derealization (or maybe depersonalization, I can never tell the difference) on and off all day, then eventually it hit me hard.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have a diagnosis of "undifferentiated arthritis" with symptoms of finger, hand, and wrist arthritis? If so, what is your treatment therapy? I was originally diagnosed with SLE in sept 2010 with main symptom of arthritis but prior skin, photosensitivity, and mouth ulcers, plus ANA of 1:640. At that time my rheumy was thinking i had RA but i had no bloodwork indicating RA, so he thought i had SLE instead.
633143 tn?1262137135 I do believe though that doctors definately have different levels and types of experience to draw from so they dont agree a lot of the time.
