Avatar n tn I have had a cyst in my frontal lobe since I was 5 yrs old. The doctors mentioned that the cyst was dead due to excess of calcium. At age 5 I had a seizure but nothing was done about it. At age 13 I had two more seizures and thats when doctors put me on Tegretol 200mg. An MRI was taken at age 5 and at age 13, the size of the cyst remained the same. The seizures only occur while I am asleep. As of now the Tegretol has worked but pretty soon I wont have insurance to cover the medicine.
Avatar n tn Infections and fever can make an otherwise healthy individual more prone to have a seizure. a single episode of seizure cannot be marked as epilepsy. An EEG to ensure that there are no structural abnormalities in brain. Normal EEG and MRI brain are encouraging though this does not rule out a future episode. You need to consult a physician for investigating any underlying infectious condition, high or low blood sugar, injury, electrolyte imbalance, drug withdrawal syndrome etc.
Avatar m tn I don't think people who have a seizure remember the seizure, but he definitely had something. Maybe it's a thyroid problem. He needs to be seen, but an ER is the slowest, most expensive and least efficient way to do it.
Avatar f tn There are some that involve staring off and only last a minute or two. Some involved stiffening of the body only. Google seizure types. The only way to tell if it is a true seizures is having an eeg within 24 hours of the seizure, it will show abnormal brain activity. My brothers seizures always show in the right temporal lobe of the brain. His are controlled now with antiseizure meds. If you have seizures pregnancy can make them worse. You need to see a neurologist for proper diagnosis.
Avatar m tn My son has his first seizure. After the CT scan, they found a cyst in his brain. The doctor in the emergency room told me that he doesn't need to be medicated unless the seizure comes back. We are waiting for MRI and EEG. I don't have more information on the cyst at this point. He practices martial arts. Would you let me know how serious the cyst will be and the causes? Should he continue practice martial arts? What are the do's and don'ts? He is going through puberty.
Avatar f tn hi i am 28 years old and seeing a neuro for migrains he started all these test on me and now he says he wants to put me on seizure meds because he sees seizure activity in my brain from me doing an in office eeg and a 48hr.

1029105 tn?1252162547 There are certain types of chemicals in the brain that become unbalanced and leads to anxiety. So it is necessary to seek medication which enhances the natural chemical in the body known as GABA to calm the system & reduce seizures.
Avatar n tn With this in mind, it seems to make sense that someone who has different brain chemistry might have various types of differences, and thus various types of symptoms. Has your neurologist given you any information on this?
Avatar f tn Hi, A normal EEG does not at all mean that one did not have a seizure. During a seizure, the electrical activity is abnormal. Once the seizure is over, the brain rapidly returns to normal in most individuals. When an EEG is done several hours or even days later, it misses the changes in electrical activity that occurred during the actual seizure. But you mentioned that during EEG, there was muscle twitching but the EEG was normal.
1653487 tn?1303524162 Complex partial is where the seizure activity spreads, involving enough of the brain to alter your state of consciousness/awareness, usually anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes (follows you aura). You come to afterwards feeling tired and confused, and it takes a while to even realize you've had a seizure. Sometimes seizure activity can spread, involving the entire brain, often leading to the "classic" seizure, or convulsion, i.e.
Avatar f tn If someone with Alzheimer’s disease has a seizure, a healthcare provider will perform a careful assessment that includes blood tests, a CT scan or MRI, and an EEG to assess the seizure type and any other underlying cause for the seizure. From these tests, an antiepileptic medication will be selected to help control the seizures.Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
401370 tn?1233324682 Seizures can cause temporary lack of oxygen to the brain, which is why anyone watching a seizure is supposed to note onset, whether or not the person lost consciousness, breathing (did it stop), and more. Someone in charge of other people should be versed in general medical care, say CPR, s/s of stroke (CVA), s/s heart attack (MI), seizure protocol, etc. Any idiot should know that causing harm to someone isn't helping them.
233915 tn?1218813127 An anticonvulsant needs to be given in case he’s not taking any. Adequate seizure control should be achieved. Once the seizure is controlled, you can already bring him home or to a hospice and palliative care facility. A thorough discussion involving the family and his doctors (psychiatrist included) should be done. End of life issues should be settled. God bless you always.
Avatar f tn Partner had a stroke april 21 but only this last 6mths she has had 1/2 episodes where she has gone to laugh and had one i would describe as a seizure - she stares and goes red as though struggling to breath then 10ish secs later she is absolutely fine- anyone else had similar
Avatar n tn When you have the seizures, there has to be a structural change / damage to the brain tissue. If no such damage is seen, there still has to be an EEG change for us to say that it is a seizure. Stress is not a causative factor for seizures. It is known to "trigger" some types of seizures. Temporal lobe epilepsy can also be triggered by stress. But it definitely does not cause the seizures.
Avatar m tn seizure in bed while asleep - never had a seizure before - didn't awaken when it occurred. Big bitten tongue.

Avatar m tn no other tests have been ran just an EEG everything looked fine but my adviser (case manager) at the traumatic brain injury place i have gone to several times told me that a person can come back with a normal scan and it doesn't mean the EEG is correct. the EEG was done 2 years ago when symptoms weren't bad as well. my adviser also told me that my symptoms do not match with the TBI i had. TBI symptoms improve over the years not worsen.
Avatar m tn I have had 2 brain lesions for over three years. They have not grown the past two, but this years MRI showed growth. I have had a Lumbar Puncture and the only thing we are waiting on are the O-bands and the Total Protein. At this point, everything else it normal. I am frustrated as I had a Nerve Conduction study in 2015 from my knees down that showed I had no feeling from my knee to my foot on both outside legs.
Avatar f tn If you are not on meds you need to be and if you are you need a different one. Have you had an Electroencephalogram (EEG)? They have a couple of types to check your brain waves. However, they may not want to do them as it will probably trigger a seizure. Yes you need a neurologist as soon as possible.
