Avatar f tn A significant change in the usual seizure pattern like in terms of seizure type, seizure length, or associated symptoms needs immediate medical attention. A changing pattern of seizures may indicate ineffective control of seizures or ineffectivity of the anticonvulsants. It is best to consult your neurologist about it and get the appropriate treatment. Hope it helps. Best wishes!
Avatar f tn m not sure about the difference between a myoclonic jerk and a myoclonic seizure?
Avatar f tn Had to go to Doctor`s Care today, due to a miserable UTI. I am a myoclonic seizure patient and due to this UTI issue Am on no sleep. Not good for seizure condition. The Dr. was aware I had the seizure problem and prescribed cipro, which I had to call and tell them to send me something different. The one at the pharmacy now is Augmentin. Just need a neurologist`s expert opinion as to whether or not it is alright to take Augmentin with my myoclonic seizure condition.
Avatar f tn Another alternative is progressive myoclonic epilepsy which seem to fit her symptoms a bit more. There are 6 different PMEs each with their own defining symptoms but they all have certain symptoms in common which include generalised seizures (previously known as grand mal), myoclonic seizures, ataxia and progressive dementia. Researching on the internet is gonna be a bit intimidating, especially when you read about PME as some are fatal within a number of years.

Avatar m tn I have a son who is 5 months old, had seizure 3rd day after he born. Then he was in ICU for a month. After that, he was advised to take phenobarbitone. But since seizure is not controlld, neurologist suggested to take Levipil along with that. It decreased to a level, but not completely controlled. So he advised us to take EEG and result was abnormal. He said, my son have too much electrical charge in brain which is affecting brain, so there will developmental delays.

Avatar f tn Hello my daughter (13) was born having seizures. She has been diagnosed with refractory complex partial and generalized seizures. She has also been diagnosed with seizures during sleep. I noticed recently when she is sleeping she would have these movements that looks like twitching and shrugging her shoulder/s. Sometimes her shoulders and arms will jump up inches off her body. Sometimes it would happen 1 or 2 times in a row sometimes up to 10-15 times rhythmically.
Avatar f tn Hi there. These involuntary jerking can be myoclonic jerks which can occur in head, neck, shoulders, arms, legs and torso. These can occur alone or in combination with seizure types or epileptic syndromes, absence epilepsy, myoclonic epilepsy, etc. Myoclonus is brief involuntary twitching of a muscle or a group of muscles.
Avatar f tn The jerks you describe may be myoclonic jerks. Myoclonic jerks can result from a wide-range of illnesses. They can be a form of epilepsy. They are typically more worrisome if there are other abnormalities such as weakness or speaking difficulties. In addition to seizure, they can be from a prior stroke, injury, infection, metabolic abnormality, tumor, etc. The differential is broad. If you have not had a thorough workup, I would suggest an EEG and brain MRI.

338416 tn?1420045702 I've been having these myoclonic (jerks? convulsions?) Meh... Don't know what to call them - but they sure are annoying. When they happen, my legs get really weak. It also seems to be associated with back pain - upper, lower, lumbar. On top of that, I can't feel my knees. They're numb to the touch, but more importantly, when I walk, I can't feel them. I can feel the pressure in my calves and thighs and feet, but not my knees - they're buzzy and floaty.
1466984 tn?1310560608 Apparaently Lyme disease (which is my long awaited dx) is what has caused my seizure disorder, most likely the co- infection of Bartonella, because it went straight to my brain and caused neuro - like symptoms.
Avatar n tn ever since then, during menstration, if she wakes up from a deep sleep, she usually has a seizure. now that she is in her menopause stage, she has it more often when she comes out of a deep sleep. this only happens when sleeping or sometimes dozing off into a sleep then waking up. she has been on epilepsy medications, tests, all show negative results. Any idea what is causing this?
Avatar f tn Also a fe months later I started having Myoclonic jerks, problems walking, talking ,thinking, and confusion, stomach and bowel problems and low blood pressure, migraine headache and anxiety. That was in the first year, second year ,on top of all the other stuff, my immune system crashed went to hospital running fever white blood count was under 1 stayed a week in the hospital. Doctors were undetermined on what caused it, my white count now stays around 3.
Avatar f tn That may be some form of a minor seizure as well (there are multiple classes of seizures of course) as a person does not have to lose consciousness during a seizures. A person can have different types of seizures, not just the specific ones they were diagnosed with. Best to speak to a neurologist and they could do tests such as EEG's to see what is happening during those staring spells to see if its some form of seizure and then decide from there how to treat it.
Avatar m tn Hi, i am a 21 year old male living with symptoms that i fear may be related to a tumor, and would just like to get some outside opinions about the matter. I have an anxiety disorder/obsessive anxiety and have had for a long time now, but the symptoms i have started experiencing lately have left me confused and paranoid.
1156914 tn?1300571629 Hi... I have Myoclonic seizures and all of the rest of them. Myoclonic seizures are what I call the "jerks". Sometimes they happen when I am sitting and a leg or arm will jerk. Sometimes when I am in the kitchen..better duck! I usually always have them at night before and after going to sleep. I have also had them where my entire body goes into convolsions yet I know, what is going on around me and 'I think" I could talk if not so busy; trying to get control of myself.
Avatar f tn You should probably see a neurologist, for the seizure as well. You should certainly document all of your symptoms, physical and mental (smells, tastes, fears, panic, etc.) for your doctor visits. I have one son with epilepsy, and lost my daughter to epilepsy. Neither child had or has thyroid or pituitary issues. I am the thyroid issue, lol. However there is potential connection as both can be the result of underlying autoimmune disorders. My family has a long list of autoimmune disorders.

1182699 tn?1297574784 I went to the doctor yesterday and he told me it was a myoclonic (I may be spelling or pronouncing that wrong) jerk. Most people get that jerk when they are almost asleep...a few he said will go into a seizure. Everytime this happens, your body produces a jolt of adrenaline and God know I have way too much of that. He said I reacted to the adrenaline I was feeling. I was taking 12.5 of atenolol. He said the treatment for too much adrenaline is the bet-blocker, so he increased my dose to 25 mg.
Avatar m tn My 6 year old son, has what looks like myoclonic seizures or drops everytime he eats. They usally wipe him out and he goes to sleep right after. His neurologist says that eating and swallowing can't trigger seizures. Could it be a trigger? If its not a trigger and they are not seizures then what else could it be.
Avatar f tn s coming back negative or clear, please do not worry about it to much. Where your seizure activity is located could be deep within your brain and a normal EEG might not pick it up. The best thing for you to do is to avoid anything that you know of that can trigger a seizure and stay on your meds. Also you will also most likely have to stay on some type of seizure medication throughout your life. I know that is not what you wanted to hear but, it is what it is.
Avatar m tn This is commonly known as a myoclonic jerk, and is not dangerous, and is not any kind of fit or seiaure. It is very common, especially when falling asleep, or in the early very light stages of sleep. It is sometimes accomapied by a sensation of falling, just prior to the jerk. It is usually not a problem when associated, as you have said, with falling asleep. If you are concerned, discuss it with your doctor at your next checkup.
