Common Questions and Answers about Seizure symptoms depression

Avatar m tn Hi, How are you? Are there other symptoms present? What were the results of the MRI, EMG and blood tests? Was there a history of trauma to the head or neck? It is good that eye issues are ruled out already. This could be due to primary headaches which are usually managed with prescription medications. Anxiety as well as depression can also be managed with medications prescribed by your doctor and also with medical therapy.
401370 tn?1233328282 If you have very few symptoms of a seizure, but didn't endure the full blown effects (silent seizure perhaps?), can an EMG still detect it? Just wondering, because I have Lupus, and sometimes I will notice SEVERE dizzy spells for like 5 seconds, along with numbness or tingling feeling of my teeth WHILE the dizzy spells are taking place, then a weird jolt down my left arm.. (I had tests performed by my doc and they stated it wasn't heart related). Very strange..
Avatar n tn As withdrawals can feel same as depression, we have to give it time after we stop. Withdrawal symptoms will come on pretty quickly after we stop, depression rather slower. We will know ourselves what is happening, as you and I did. Your suggestion to wonder502 is a good one.
Avatar f tn I am so sorry that your depression is untreatable, and with all those ECTs it has not improved. I presume no anti-depression medication has been effective in your case either. I presume you have tried them all. You certainly don't sound pathetic, I admire you for being such a fighter. Seems the doctors and psychiatrists have given up on you. Well I do not know what to suggest you do next, seems to me you have tried so hard.
1559533 tn?1308952161 Do the use of these medications help with MS symptoms. If so could taking these type of meds make it more difficult to get a diagnosis.
Avatar n tn I'm 40 yrs. old and have suffered from Depression for 15 yrs. and been on Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Cymbalta and now back to Wellbutrin 450 mg. daily. 5 yrs. ago I had my first panic attack, taking .5 mg. Xanax as needed. Didn't have them that often. I work in a very stressfull/hostile workplace (School) it has become this way over a period of about 5 yrs. I am a very passive person and sometimes I feel like the doormat.
Avatar f tn In addition, patients with epilepsy are at higher risk of developing depression, and in children, this depression may be expressed as behavioral changes and agitation rather than the more typical symptoms of depression. Most often, behavioral changes in children with epilepsy are the result of their seizure medications. Some seizure medications, such as leveteracetam (keppra) but also others can lead to a variety of behavioral problems such as irritability, aggression, and impulsivity.
Avatar m tn I am a forty-two year old caucasian male. I have been diagnosed with a seizure disorder, for lack of a better term, because it has yet to be identified. My grosser symptoms are difficult to describe. I call them "nerve flashes." They are like flashes or pulses of electricity in my hands, feet, limbs, head and chest--simultaneously--in conjunction with stuttering vision or vision disturbances (such as transient hallucinations, inability to judge distance, loss of stereoscopy).
Avatar f tn My sister had her first seizure last night. She is obese, hypertension and RA. She is on multiple meds for each condition with a new one added in the last three weeks. Enbrel. She was diagnosed years ago with pseudotumor cerebri, but has not had any trouble with it as far as anyone knows. Could this new seizure be due to a recurrence of PTC? She does have an appt. with a neurologist tomorrow, but am just curious. Thank you for your quick response.
Avatar n tn My neurolgist diagnosed me with a stroke-related seizure (since the symptoms were coming from the same area of the brain as where I had my stroke) and gave me Depakote which stopped the symptoms almost immediately. I didn't tolerate the Depakote (many side effects) and eventually switched to Neurontin which I have happily taken for 6 months, three times a day. I have no side effects and the Neurontin keeps the symptoms completely in check unless I accidently skip doses.
393986 tn?1303829575 Hello. A seizure is defined as an episode of central nervous system dysfunction. A seizure may or may not be accompanied by convulsions. Your seizures are unusual. Do you lose consciousness when you have the episode? usually convulsions are tonic (only spasms) or tonic - clonic (spasms followed by repeated contractions). An EEG confirms a seizure. Has it been done?
327385 tn?1378364331 The face drooping that was noted to occur before your grand-mal seizure is not a sign of that you are having a stroke before your seizure. Seizures can be partial onset, in which the seizure starts in a specific part of the brain, and then may or may not spread to other areas of the brain, leading to a grand-mal seizure (the other type of seizure is generalized: it starts throughout the brain more or less at once).
Avatar n tn There isn't alot of information out there on these types of migraines so I just wondered if someone else experiences the same symptoms. I have suffered from headaches since I was a kid, and I am now 31. The seizures didn't start till 5 years ago though, and it is getting progressively worse. My MRI's have been normal, as well as my EEG's, and the spinal tap results got lost and i refuse to have another one.
441761 tn?1204829868 For the last year and a half I have been experiencing seizure-like episodes. I have seen a neurologist about these and he has ruled out Epilepsy and several other things through tests including a CAT, EEG, EKG, MRI of the head, neck, and lumbar vertebrae, an EchoCardiogram, a Spinal Tap, Urine Analysis, Blood Work, and an Orbital Scan. All of those tests have returned normal.
Avatar n tn I have read of monthly hormone cycles in women effecting brain chemistry and causing depression symptoms to cycle in sync. but nothing for a male that I know of as yet. My friend says that the symptoms of his depression though remain fairly constant ie unenthusiastic, tired etc. He has been prescribed Lovan with no change in his symptoms yet after only 2 months. I have heard that hormone cycles of women living under the same roof can synchronise.
Avatar f tn My husband and I are parents to a 17 year old girl who is a senior in high school. In August of 2013, she started to show some odd behavior and we chalked it up to typical teenage girl stuff. However; since August 2013, these are some of the symptoms/behaviors we are experiencing with her: 1). Does not clean room will have trash, bottles, dirty clothes, food and food wrappers everywhere, 2). Will go to bed at 8:00 p.m.
94007 tn?1224766336 Thats not good. As some of you may remember, he is disabled and on seizure meds which can CAUSE liver damage. How much of that damage comes from the meds its hard to say. He is going to treat in the fall but is switching to another med - Keppra. Is anyone familiar with it? We cant see how he does off the meds because treatment lowers the seizure threshhold. Lots of complications and unanswered questions. That can only be answered by experience - doc is concerned.
Avatar f tn Yes, my husband uses it for bipolar and for antidepressant/mood stability, but also for seizure depression as well. Valproic acid is used alone or with other medications to treat certain types of seizure I know you are worried and afraid for your daughter. I have no advice about what to do, just wanted you to know I am hoping all goes well and I am so sorry about it all.
Avatar m tn I had a Seizure occur almost 3 months ago while on the Antibiotic Tetracycline. The Dr. said that was the most likely cause. All tests on my brain came back normal, but during the Seizure i bounced my face off what at the time seemed to be an extremely hard bathroom floor. I had fractured my nose, severely lacerated my upper lip and chipped 3 teeth. I do not drink alcohol or submit myself to illegal drugs.
Avatar n tn My Dr wants me to start antidepressants and I am really against that, especially if I'm not treating the real issue here. I fully admit to having GAD, social anxiety and have been told depression. I have always been able to live with it, knowing that I can take a Xanax when I need and get thru it. The last 18 months of my life have been very stressful, and I never had anything like this. Suddenly it comes out of nowhere....when I am resting, or happily hanging out with my kids.
Avatar n tn Most doctors will consider tapering the dosage and discontinuing your seizure medicines after a seizure-free period of 2 to 4 years. If you have had only one seizure, some doctors will consider discontinuing the medicine if you have been seizure-free for 6 to 12 months. 2) If you seizures were infrequent prior to starting your medications. 3) If you under the close care and supervision of your physician, preferable a neurologist.
Avatar n tn Over the years I have had various symptoms that occur along with the migrane, speech problems, numbness in various parts of my body. Over Christmas this year I was hospitalized after having a very strange episode. I had had a migrane for 7 weeks (everyday) prior to the episode I do not remember anything that happened during that time my husband said that I was mumbling incoherent things punching him, having hallucinations visual as well as auditory.
767237 tn?1332643777 Any ideas, has anyone ever experienced this?? Some docs say it could be a seizure but I dont think so cause I never lost consiousness and because of how long it lasted. Could this have been a bad manic episode?? Please any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn I felt so strange and still cannot explain it. A lil over a week of being off these meds I had a full blown seizure. I was outside and fell face first on concrete, busting up the left side of my face, convulsing, foaming at the mouth and was clueless as to why I was on the ground. I am still waiting for answers on to why this happened. I have got through the hardest part of getting off the meds, but I am still feeling off. I can't explain the feeling I have in my head/brain.
Avatar m tn I have had epilepsy since 1972 which is presently under control with Dilantin (300 mg. per day). However, I also suffer from depression, extreme highs and lows (mood swings), anxiety, etc. My psychiatrist recently prescribed Seroquel and it really helped, but while taking a 50 mg daily dose it also induced a seizure. I am now left wondering if there is an alternative antipsychotic that I can take which will not interfere with how my dilantin is working and will not cause seizures.
Avatar n tn Since her last seizure, she has been unable to sleep, walks around aimlessly (constantly running into things), wont drink, and it has gotten to the point of spoon feeding her wet food (she can't dry food anymore..i think its too hard for her to chew, even the wet food has to be cut up or she will lick it and not eat it). She is also blind in her right eye (according to the vet) so this may also be why she wont go outside anymore, she can't see properly!
