Common Questions and Answers about Seizure symptoms cats

seizure

Avatar n tn Hi, cats usually do some twitches when they sleep. I've had cats for over 30 years-always had 2 or more cats. I've seen the sleep twitching a lot. I wouldn't be concerned, unless she can't be woken up immediately during the twitches. If she can be woken up right away and acts normally, then it's not a seizure.
Avatar m tn Phenobarbital would not only be a treatment but it would help with diagnosis. If the cause of your cats seizure disorder is FIP than phenobarbital will not be as effective in controlling the seizures as it would be for idiopathic seizure disorder. It sounds as if your cat may have a long prodromal phase, than the seizure, and then a very long postictal phase; and if this is the case, it may not be status epilepticus. A consult with a veterinary neurologist may be very valuable.
Avatar m tn Phenobarbital is the primary drug of choice of most vets for seizure management, but some cats can have adverse reactions. So if you do decide to put her on phenobarbital, you need to observe closely for any side effects of the drug itself. Often seizures, while they can be quite dramatic and frightening, are not in and of themselves life threatening for the cat as long as they do not result in secondary injury from falls or other accidents during the seizure.
207091 tn?1337709493 Hi, I'm not really sure what the symptoms could be, but I honestly don't think it's seizures or a stroke. Seizures you would've noticed twitching and loss of bowel or urinary control. A stroke would've affected one side of the body only, and she wouldn't have recovered so quickly. This could be a thyroid problem, or diabetes. You can try taking her food away for 6-8 hrs so she'll be ready to get tested for diabetes as soon as you get to the vet's office.
Avatar n tn hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), hypertension (high blood pressure), seizure activity, heart problems are all symptoms of stroke in cats.
232077 tn?1218423343 In our 4 years of owning him we have NEVER witnessed him having a seizure or pretty much any other health problems really. We petted him and calmed him down and within a few minutes he was back to normal 100%. He even began playing around with his cat nip toys. When he made a bowel movement about 10 minutes later he had some stuck to his fur and when I wiped I noticed blood. Naturally I took him right to the vet were they examined his stool sample and ran a blood test.
Avatar m tn Hello, sorry if my English is not good. My cat has been going through seizure recently. It usually last for about 1 minute. A few months ago, it happens 1 time per 3 week, then 1 time per 5 week. This month it happen every week. I am in Vietnam and I has brought him to the Vet. He is about 2.5 years old, 3.5kg male. He has been neutered, but he still have one testical inside him according to the doc.
Avatar m tn She is a spayed 1and1/2 yr.old mix breed. She's currently on pheno-barb 2x daily. Still having occasional seizures, which seem to run in streaks. She'll have several over a few days, then goes several wks or more without. I cannot afford to sent her for an MRI. Do you have any suggestions. I've heard (read) cats w/ seizure disorders tend to have much shorter life-spans? Is there anything else I could be doing for her? Thank you for your time. She is much loved!
Avatar f tn You should also wear gloves while gardening to prevent any contamination from parasites spread by feral cats. Interestingly, cats only shed the parasite for a very limited time after they contract toxoplasmosis. You can contract toxoplasmosis from eating undercooked meat or by not thoroughly cleaning utensils and surfaces that were in contact with the contaminated meat. There have been some cases of infection from blood transfusions. Good luck...
976897 tn?1379167602 I had 4 cats but unfortunately a few years ago I lost 2 to the dreaded C word. The remaining 2 seemed to be quite sickly cats and I say that because they would vomit at least 3 times a week. The Vet couldn't explain it and so I just assumed that they were scoffing mice or something in the woods behind my garden. Suddenly a few months ago I walked into the kitchen and my dog was laying on the floor shaking. He recovered and I rushed him to the VET who said it was a form of mild seizure.
215234 tn?1305142961 Hi, I would be very grateful for someones oppinion on the following.....
Avatar m tn Yesterday we (me and my girlfriend) went out for a few hours, and we found one of my four dogs(He is a collie and sheltie mix), locked in our bedroom. We are not sure how he got in their, but he was crying. He went through all the garbage, and later that night he had a seizure. It's like his legs gave out, and after literally one second, I picked him up, put him on the couch and he seemed ok.
969042 tn?1259067775 t get the usual typical flashes of light, except I saw flashes of light in the ER for a few seconds last night when I went in scared because I had sudden intense and new symptoms to my chronic headache. After evaluation and treatment, the doctor concluded that it was a combination of my usual migraine and a tension headache. Oh, goody, more headache than I already have.
Avatar f tn that ended up in a seizure. He has had these episodes before about 2-4times that I know of. I notice it happens when he gets scared. That really must have scared him, me closing the lid. He darted out, tailed bushed out and flung and flopped all over the house, incontinent of urine as he is running and ended up under my bed in a full blown seizure twitching, drooling and foaming at the mouth. Eyes dilated. He came out of it slowly and is slowly reorienting himself.
Avatar n tn s going on with your girl. We are just members like yourself. Could have been a seizure, I suppose, but hard to say. Try not to panic until you know what's wrong. Oh, and be sure to syringe some food and water if she's not eating. Please let us know the outcome and how your girl is doing tomorrow. Good luck!

Avatar f tn what are the symptoms of epilepsy and are there any warning signs? This discussion is related to EEG.
Avatar f tn My son is 2 years old and has a seizure history at birth time which last for half hour and at 9 month also which last for 4.5 hour.He just came out of death.doctors gave him gardinal and levipil which they taper after 3 months and closed it completely after 3 more month. Now after closing his medicine he never face any problem till now but different doctors says different thing.
Avatar f tn It showed lesions on my brain in the parahippocampal and right temporal horn region. I was put on seizure medication and I still am not convinced that I have seizures. Medicine doesn't really help. Recently I have been uncoordinated. I get dizzy then my limbs and head feel very heavy. I get very weak. Always feels like my head is floating yet heavy. Spots in my left eye and sometimes my right but eye exam ok.
Avatar n tn My 9 yr old was diagnosed with seizure disorder last week after stress EEG showed multiple abnormal firings in left parietal lobe. MD states that it is most definitely seizure activity/disorder. His symptoms are so vague, though, that we often don't know when he is having a seizure, or what to do. We only seem to know for sure that he had a seizure after the fact, because he sleeps 3-7 hours.
Avatar n tn Hello...I am so sorry for your loss. I was frightened for the first time going to sleep last night because I was running low and my fiance just got a new job, so he won't be here during the night. I remembered your post. I think your post helped me to realize to be more careful. It's scary, but I did find a way to face the fear and eventually get to sleep (at around 3:30am). I have nine cats. We usually keep them out of the bedroom, but I let them in last night.
Avatar n tn My 8 month male cat recently starting having trouble walking; his hindquarters are dropped down and he is unable to put any weight on his back legs. I know he wasn't hit by a car as he has been kept in the garage with it being so cold outside. He still purrs when petted but doesn't seem to have any energy. He also has movement in his back legs when laying down (he'll scratch his ears with those feet) but just doesn't have any support in them.
Avatar f tn It could be epilepsy, but the fact that, from the way you mentioned it, the head banging somewhat woke you up does not point toward a seizure because usually when you come out of a seizure, you are confused, extremely tired, and sore. Also, you wouldn't be able to be woken up from the head banging. Although, the fact that the shower nob held up your head by hair would be suspicious of something more than fainting...
Avatar f tn This will not last for more than maybe 5-10 seconds. No other symptoms. He has been doing this since he was about 10 months old. Could this be a seizure and should we take him to his doctor?
