Common Questions and Answers about Seizure symptoms cats

seizure

207091 tn?1337713093 Hi, I'm not really sure what the symptoms could be, but I honestly don't think it's seizures or a stroke. Seizures you would've noticed twitching and loss of bowel or urinary control. A stroke would've affected one side of the body only, and she wouldn't have recovered so quickly. This could be a thyroid problem, or diabetes. You can try taking her food away for 6-8 hrs so she'll be ready to get tested for diabetes as soon as you get to the vet's office.
Avatar f tn It has been two days since his last seizure but he still hasn't fully recovered, he doesn't know his commands, the people in the house ( including me ), or the other dogs and cats in the house. I want to know if he will even recover from this or if there is something I can do to help. He keeps pacing and whining, even in the middle of the night. Should I bring him in again? Could there be something more serious going on?
232077 tn?1218426943 In our 4 years of owning him we have NEVER witnessed him having a seizure or pretty much any other health problems really. We petted him and calmed him down and within a few minutes he was back to normal 100%. He even began playing around with his cat nip toys. When he made a bowel movement about 10 minutes later he had some stuck to his fur and when I wiped I noticed blood. Naturally I took him right to the vet were they examined his stool sample and ran a blood test.
215234 tn?1305146561 Hi, I would be very grateful for someones oppinion on the following.....
Avatar m tn This loss of balance (known to us vets as ataxia) could be due to blood glucose abnormalities, inner ear infections, or could even be a mild form of seizure. An examination from your vet to have them assess your cats neurological status as well as a simple CBC and profile is recommended.
Avatar f tn EEG: abnormal secondary to left frontotemporal sharp slowing and single phase reversal at T3 At this point, I was started on anti-seizure meds and my bloodwork went haywire. I was given (IV) Ativan once in an ER and within minutes every sound was like a high-pitched squeal and everything looked distorted. I tried several different anti-seizure meds before finding one (Lamictal) that didn't cause severe abdominal pain. I had a breakthrough seizure in June 2010 and one in early April 2011.
Avatar n tn I have since had periods of double vision, ears ringing or throbbing, and increasing difficulty swallowing. I was missing several days of work at a time, he put me on the anti-seizure stuff they are using now which allows me to work but not effectively. Took me off analgesics. It feels like I have the headache and sore throat of strep throat all the time, just less or more depending on the level of the Depakote.
Avatar n tn I am a 34 yr old female who has been having neuro symptoms for approx 2-3 yrs. Started with vague sensory problems and migraines & has progressed from there. Symptoms can be severe at times, but generally come and go, although the sensory symptoms tend to be progressing and constant & the migraines seem to be getting more severe over time as well.

Avatar n tn I'm a 26 year old male and since October 2006 have been experiencing 24-7 sinus pressure in the upper corners of my nose (always one side at a time), but NO allergy symptoms (i.e. no running nose, sneezing, coughing, itchy nose/eyes/throat, etc). The pressure is so bad that it presses back onto my brain, causing terrible lightheadedness, forgetfullness, and general mental impairment.
Avatar n tn Hi, cats usually do some twitches when they sleep. I've had cats for over 30 years-always had 2 or more cats. I've seen the sleep twitching a lot. I wouldn't be concerned, unless she can't be woken up immediately during the twitches. If she can be woken up right away and acts normally, then it's not a seizure.
1761287 tn?1313828387 I have recently taken my 8 yr. old Bombay, Shadow (aka PNut) to the vet for severe diarrhea, vomiting, asthma symptoms (coughing & sneezing) & bumps on the skin. Administered by vet: - Dexamethasone-SP 4mg Injection --> (a steroid) adverse reactions: accentuation of metabolic effects (?) - Cerenia 10 mg Injection -- bacterial infections, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) & giardiasis - Not officially approved for veterinarian use (concern--then why prescribe?
Avatar n tn She just recently started having seizures and had to be hospitalized. She speaks crazy things out of her head. For example, the day she had the seizure and was hospitalized, she was telling her mother to hurry up b/c they couldn't be late for the orientation (which she didn't have). When she was hospitalized, she wouldn't eat, wouldn't sleep, became violent at times (bit her boyfriend), lost 10 lbs. in a week. All blood tests, MRIs, CATs, EEGs came back normal.
Avatar n tn you did not mention the age, but it is not uncommon for animals to have strokes or TIA's. we often don't see or diagnose them because symptoms can be very subtle - unlike humans. recovery is usually several days to months and may not be complete - depending on the cats age. A good neurological exam by a veterinarian or a veterinary neurologist could tell you much more. epilepsy is also a consideration and you are seeing small seizures and the various phases of a seizure.
Avatar n tn The neurologist thought it was a confusional migraine because one of the symptoms is vulgar language. She was given vallim which didn't calm her down and then was given morphine. She was in a deep sleep with no reponse for 8 days. When she awoke it was for about 1 1/2 days. Then she had a heart attack and stroke. She had heart surgery and her heart doctor has dismissed her but she is back into her deep sleep.
Avatar m tn Phenobarbital is the primary drug of choice of most vets for seizure management, but some cats can have adverse reactions. So if you do decide to put her on phenobarbital, you need to observe closely for any side effects of the drug itself. Often seizures, while they can be quite dramatic and frightening, are not in and of themselves life threatening for the cat as long as they do not result in secondary injury from falls or other accidents during the seizure.
1929044 tn?1323113688 I aplied the Sargeants (gold box) to my dog who is over 60 pds. I also had the Sargeants for cats under ten pounds on the counter to treat two cats I found fleas on. I don't know what I did but I grabbed the wrong flea control medicine and accidentally applied a small amount of the dog flea control to my these two cats (one girl is 5 and one is almost 7).
691463 tn?1227422654 Blessings of the day; Our cat Calamity Jane Grey had a stroke at age 21 years 3 1/2 months, but continued to try and function normally. Her appetite stayed good and she tried to maintain good litter box habits. She did not seem to us to be having any pain. Symptoms she had: body bent to the left so she veered a bit as she walked (but kept a shoulder near a wall to guide herself), she did drool a little more, her eyes didn't focus quite as well...
Avatar n tn I am becoming very concerned and feel that these may be symptoms of another illness. My doctor won't address this problem because she feels that the depression (although I don't feel as though I am depressed, and feel its another mental illness) is much more importantand she wants to handle one thng at a time. This is very upsetting for me.
Avatar n tn I thought it might be a broken back or tailbone, someone mentioned it might have been a seizure, or possibly some type of disease. He is eating and drinking some but doesn't appear to be peeing or pooping; when we set him in the litter box he usually just tries to get out w/out doing anything. Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), hypertension (high blood pressure), seizure activity, heart problems are all symptoms of stroke in cats.
1110049 tn?1409405744 Reported nervous system symptoms included lethargy, nervousness, ataxia (movement problems), tremors and seizure. A number of adverse reactions in cats were the result of the cat either being treated with a product intended for dogs, or through exposure to a treated dog. Cats treated with products intended for dogs had an especially rate of serious reactions and fatalities. Inert ingredients in spot-on products were generally assumed to contribute to toxicity.
7052683 tn?1392942395 Well , hats off to Yoda Cat!!! I just looked over your info on seizures and Dr. Becker. I believe Meezy has Hyperesthesia. Yep it is all there. The swishing tail, the rippling skin, the biting at her hind flank, and the scratching around her neck. They sometimes "see things that we can't see" and run like a crazy cat like they are being chased . >>>>>and this is in the seizure category.
Avatar f tn I wonder if anyone else's cats has these symptoms or get another Vet's opinion of what the problem might be. The seizures did not seem to change her overall behavior and for her age she seems fit and is still a very pretty kitty.
969042 tn?1259071375 I don't get the usual typical flashes of light, except I saw flashes of light in the ER for a few seconds last night when I went in scared because I had sudden intense and new symptoms to my chronic headache. After evaluation and treatment, the doctor concluded that it was a combination of my usual migraine and a tension headache. Oh, goody, more headache than I already have.
Avatar f tn Hi my cats been vomiting lately every day once sometime twice he also when he sleeping his whole body start to shake for a few second then look okay and his hair look like it have gum but there none all over his top body i cut it and it come back .
Avatar n tn I guess I have seizure alert cats. I don't gamble and not check and depend on the cats; I check, but they have also caught the surprises. I wish you quick healing in your heart from what has happened...I know it's got to hurt.
Avatar n tn I've seen that type of behavior, but it isn't totally relative, you've got a cat with specific conditions on numerous medications there. I would start with internal med and request a neuro consult if the doctor thinks it is neccessary (or the findings are inconclusive, again). Have you googled the medications you're using? Sometimes side effects can come up with changes in physiology. As it is, it may not be a straight forward neurological issue.
Avatar n tn I don't think anyone here would be able to tell you for sure what's going on with your girl. We are just members like yourself. Could have been a seizure, I suppose, but hard to say. Try not to panic until you know what's wrong. Oh, and be sure to syringe some food and water if she's not eating. Please let us know the outcome and how your girl is doing tomorrow. Good luck!
