Common Questions and Answers about Seizure precautions question

seizure

Avatar n tn My neurologist is in the process of raising the dose of Topamax to 200 mg, and gave me the precautions to take for seizure disorders, and said see ya in 3 months. And here's the Impression paragraph: This is an abnormal EEG monitoring. Mainly during wakefulness there are intermittent bilteral and shifting bursts and short trains of alpha and theta waves with sharp component and sharp waves, and intermittent delta waves seen, left more than the right, mainly in posterier regions.
Avatar n tn 4) If you agree to take ALL seizure precautions during a possible trial of stopping or tapering down your seizure medications (that means, living with someone; possibly refraining from driving and using heavy machinery.) Prior to all of this however, you should undergo a routine EEG. If you are not already seeing a neurolgist, please do so -- preferably an epileptologist (seizure specialist.) Neurologist are trained to deal with complicated cases such as yours.
2030686 tn?1351692148 I remember the gastro saying I needed to be seizure free for so long b4 I can tx. Does anybody know why this is? Will the medications lower my seizure threshold even more? My reg dr put in a call to the neuro after I had a few seizures this weekend and she put me on Keppra.
266539 tn?1281405752 This is kind of a weird question and I know would be better on the pregnancy fourm or something in that area. I was watching a little girl today and my boyfriend was with me and she had a baby doll and he said that our daughters are never going to have baby dolls. He thinks that they are not good or appropriate. Having your little girl act like a mom at like 3 years old. It kind of made me sad when he said that because I really don't think there is anything wrong with it.
Avatar f tn But there is no way I could live with myself if my child got polio because I refused to take precautions. I have a cousin who got polio, and it's a shame because no one has to get that crippling disease anymore.
Avatar m tn In such cases of disturbed sleep pattern and less sleep what precautions should I take to avoid or prevent seizure I will be ever grateful if you can guide me and answer my questions I eagerly look forward to your reply.
Avatar f tn If it is confirmed that your events are due to seizures, you would need to be started on seizure medications (anti-epileptic drugs). It is important to assume seizure precautions as well, such as not driving or being in situations in which you could injure yourself or others if you had a seizure, such as standing on a height or swimming unsupervised. Thank you for using the forum, I hope you find this information useful, good luck.
Avatar n tn One more question, if I may...If another seizure is going to occur when you start the weaning process, when is the greatest likelihood of it and at approximately what rate do the chances of recurrence decrease throughout the year following the discontinuation of the med.?
Avatar f tn I would recommend that your husband observe seizure precautions. These are precautions to limit harm to himself and to others until the episodes are sorted out. I don’t have any specific recommendations for who your husband should see. He may be best served in a larger academic setting with many specialists. A neurologist who specializes in autonomics, as I have mentioned several times, would be recommended.
Avatar n tn Hi I have a 2 part question. Firstly, i have been fit free for just over 3 years and on Lamictal. Im planning on taking an overseas trip and doing some hiking. I would be at high altitudes. I need to know if there is any evidence that Altitude affects Epilepsy. Would i be likely to have a fit if i was at a high altitude? Secondly, Diamox is used to help with altitude sickness. If i took that along with my normal Lamictal medication, would it have any effects?
Avatar n tn Dear Valencia: Let me ask one question, during the five years on dilantin, did you have a seizure event that corresponded to the one you had in the hospital? Have you ever had a seizure like the one in the hospital before? One may have a short PVC event and become light-headed with some mental changes (due to hypoxia), however your EEG should be normal. There is something called syncope-related seizures.
Avatar n tn I'd recommend the catheter be done, and that you follow the guidance given. I don't remember taking any special precautions while waiting, but I didn't try to run a foot race either (or shovel snow).
Avatar n tn Continue anti seizure medications 2. Continue to take all seizure precautions 3. Get a second opinion from an Epileptologist.
Avatar n tn I never would have guessed one day I would find myself searching for answers on a Neurology Forum, but then again, I only recently had my first seizure - and first round of MRIs! After a grand mal seizure I was admitted for observation and several imgaging scans, including an enhanced MRI which revealed a 2mm lesion in the right frontal temporal lobe. The DX - to this point - is a cavernous angioma.
Avatar n tn Good Afternoon, and thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I am 26 years-old and was diagnosed with epilepsy in (about)the fourth month of pregnancy. I was very worried about the possible side effects that Tegratol may have on my unborn child. However, as my neurologist predicted, the seizures have become more frequent as the pregnancy has progressed.
Avatar f tn My hearing has been acutely sensitive since the sypmtoms first began and growing more so as time passes. However, after the MRI, even with extra precautions to block the noise, I felt as if the sounds were reverberating through my head from both ears and when I got out of the machine, I had temporary veritgo and felt as if my brain was scrambled. The pain shooting through the affected areas of my face were much worse, esp on the right, which has typically been my "good" side.

Avatar n tn It appears to be near the site of the one which was removed, but not in the exact location. It has bled. The seizure activity is being controlled with 400 mg of Dilantin and 300 mg of Neurontin daily. He has loss of muscle control on the left side of his face and in his left hand. Surgery to remove this angioma is scheduled for Thursday, November 11. Our questions: 1. The appearance of this angioma and its rapid development is surprising. Is this rare or common?
Avatar m tn The best advice is to check with your doctor. Melatonin Oral Precautions Before taking melatonin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. If you have any of the following health problems, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this product: diabetes, high blood pressure, immune system disorder, liver disease, mental/mood disorder (e.g., depression), seizure disorder (e.g., epilepsy). This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy.
Avatar f tn Had to look up a few terms, the rhombo thing, fainting on blood draw I think??? The seizure guy was on high doses of methadone. But it looks promising! I am hoping that this trial has good results too. My INR came back this morning and it was good. I think it had to be 1.4. Saw the opthamologist this afternoon. That was the last test. And I have passed them all. Trial coordinator scheduled my start date for May 7, so I think I am in. I guess I should have asked if it is set in stone.
Avatar f tn I experience syncope about once every 3 months, and when it happens, it happens bad, I'm told I look like I'm having a seizure, but I've been tested over and over, and apparently my body just reacts badly to passing out, and has a 'fake seizure'. From what I understand the Vagus nerve goes from the toppish of your spine to your lower back, so the top of it could be getting disrupted from the CM, i believe.

6814174 tn?1385052560 Ok so I know that I am a horrible person and really don't need to be told this but my question is this, I am currently 26wks pregnant and am already planning a cesarean as I had to have one my last pregnancy. I am on day two of quitting heroin. I was never a daily user but when I did use I would smoke about a gram in 2-3 days. I know I can quit. I'm prescribed anxiety meds as well as a low dose of oxycodone currently by my OB so that has been helping me a great deal in kicking my H habit.
Avatar n tn Actuall, if you could simply copy and paste your question in here this would save me time and get you a quicker response from me. :) Thanks, JCmcc.
Avatar n tn 2 months, I had a seizure one night just after dozing off in my wife's lap. Since that point in time I have also had tremors during the night (this has been observed numerous times by my wife). I have also battled depression and on many days felt simply miserable (much more so than before starting on synthroid). What's interesting is that two months ago I quit taking the Synthroid as I associated taking the medicine with my seizures and tremors.
Avatar n tn specifically I feel a tingling in my face, I lose my sight even though my eyes are open, the muscles in my extremities begin to have small seizure type reactions and depending on the severity of the episode I may either faint or remain standing but in either case I have no memory of the beginning of the episode. I also have shortness of breath which I can only describe as an inability to completely fill the lungs with a deep breath.

315996 tn?1429057829 You do bring up a valid question.....it certainly got me to thinking.
Avatar n tn MRI out of question as aneurysm clip used is not titanium (big magnet, little loop of metal-bad). I will ask for synthroid level to be checked, though it was normal two months ago at regular checkup. BP may or may not change upon standing. Faintness occurs only when bp drops, as said I can be sitting, lying or standing when the bp drops and I get dizzy and/or faint. I see Neuro next Tuesday, or primary doc if needed before the.
