Seizure medications uses

Common Questions and Answers about Seizure medications uses

seizure

Avatar f tn Yes, my husband uses it for bipolar and for antidepressant/mood stability, but also for seizure depression as well. Valproic acid is used alone or with other medications to treat certain types of seizure I know you are worried and afraid for your daughter. I have no advice about what to do, just wanted you to know I am hoping all goes well and I am so sorry about it all.
1066198 tn?1333312628 ANYONE OUT THERE EXPERIENCE ANY HAIR LOSS- WHILE TAKING LAMICTAL (LAMOTRIGINE) FOR BI-POLAR DISORDER OR SEIZURE DISORDERS? IF SO, IN WHAT DOSES AND TIME FRAMES ? I HAVE BEEN ON IT FOR ONE YEAR NOW, AT 150 MG PER DAY.... JUST CURIOUS IF THIS COULD BE THE CULPRIT BEHIND MY HAIR LOSS.. MY HAIR HAS THINNED SO MUCH-- I CAN ALMOST SEE THRU IT...USED TO BE SO THICK- THAT I COULD NOT GET MY THUMB AND MIDDLE FINGER TO MEET AROUND A PONYTAIL.... I AM GOING TO THE DOC ON FRIDAY FOR EXAM AND LAB WORK.
Avatar m tn are, so it is very hard to be helpful. I know that Klonapin is an aniti-seizure med, but it has many off lable uses. So to deduce from you medications what your health issues are can't be done. I take Klonapin rarely for one of the off lable uses is the only reason I know about it. The Klonapin would be safe with any antihistamine like Zyrtec or Allegra. I don't know about the lexapro though.
Avatar f tn Is the seizure medication Topamax? Sometimes, certain medications have a variety of uses--like Topamax, which is primarily prescribed as an antiseizure medication, but is also heavily prescribed as preventative migraine treatment. If the medication your daughter is on doesn't do anything for headaches/migraines, I would definitely suggest she bring this up to her doctor at her next appointment.
Avatar n tn If this were the case, then we would treat with rectal diastat for seizure events and not put a child on daily seizure medications. However, if the seizures were not related to a breath holding spell, then it would be a difficult decision to with-hold medications after 3 seizures. I would sit down and see why your pediatric neurologist is not continuing the medication. There is likely a good explanation that is just not being communicated.
Avatar n tn My son has been prescribed a 100 mg of lamictal/100 mg zoloft(taken in am) and 1mg risperdal(pm). He's been on this combination of meds since Jan.07 after a seizure associated with alcohol use and Wellbutin put him in the hospital. He is being treated for depression and has not had a manic episode but suffers from anxiety. I've read so many frightening things about risperdal that I wonder about continued use. Is the the dosage small enough so it doesn't pose a long term threat?
Avatar n tn There are also some anti-seizure medications that are also used as preventatives for migraines. What does your daughter take? Has she had any infections recently or is there any family history of diseases that may relate? Are there any immune problems in the family?
Avatar n tn At the levels you are taking, almost no side effects are listed unless it is taken with other anti-seizure medications, which is not the case here.
1406332 tn?1315966360 Who prescribed this and why? This medication is typically used to treat seizure disorders, but does have off label uses such as neuropathic pain. Abrupt discontinuance of the drug may cause seizures. You said that you are not taking any anti-seizure medications right now, so I take that to mean you are not taking the Keppra right now? I always like to say don't assume...there's what saying "when you assume, you make an a$$ out of you and me.
Avatar n tn You should talk to the doctor who is prescribing these medications. It is a tremendous amount, and unless he is in excruciating pain, I am sure his doctors would not want him to have this much medication. He can't get addicted this quickly unless there is a history of addiction, but he might be quite frightened about his accident and is using these pills to quell his fear. You might talk to him about that.
Avatar n tn it's probably not a good idea in general. don't use heroin....
Avatar n tn If I do have seizure disorder, than you're right, there are medications that can help. I just want some answers...hopefully they'll come on Monday. I agree that the nurse shouldn't have told me anything, especially with all the sue happy people we have today... Interestingly, the symptoms I experienced during the EEG were different from the chronic "episodes" or seizures that I have.
Avatar f tn Herbs are just medications with weak or unknown quantities of active ingredients, so if you want to be off medications, don't start herbs as medications. You should wean over a three week period...the first week, cut down to once a day; the second week, once every two days; the third week, once every third day. That should do it, and your neurotin should protect you against seizure withdrawal.
Avatar n tn Six months past and I recently had a breakthrough seizure where I lost consciousness. Blood work determined that my medication level was therapeutic at the time of the seizure. Another 24-hour EEG was ordered and the surgeon wants to wait to see what those results are before ordering a PET scan. My questions are these: When does a surgeon determine that seizures are intractable?
Avatar n tn My grandfather just had a Ishcemic Stroke. He had been recovering very well except he had severe cramps, usually in the legs. The doctors have no idea what could be causing it, and personally I feel like they do not care. They would say "We have never seen a stroke victim with cramps before. I don't know what to tell you" (literally). They had him on several different medications, including a medication to relax his muscles.
Avatar n tn I am betting that you need your seizure medications because you have epilepsy. I also bet that the heart problem is related to your weaning off dilantin too fast or maybe it was a finding that is distinct from your heart. You should be further evaluated for the heart problem and whether it is related to your seizures needs also to be evaluated. But, I think I am in the same thought process as your heart doctor who doesn't buy the heart-seizure concept.
Avatar f tn If you have major PN, this may not assist and then you will need medications. 2) Gabapentin (perscription) is a anti-seizure medication that is also used for nerve damage/peripheral neuropathy. Other anti-seizure medications can also be prescribed. 3) Blue Emu: This is found at walgreens (etc) and online. It has emu oil along with some other good stuff in it. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to kick in but it works (my mom uses it after I did some research and found out about it).
6937315 tn?1386291218 It's only FDA approved uses are for the nerve pain from shingles and as an anti-seizure med for epileptics, but is used off-label for a lot of things.
1679858 tn?1346768781 I think it's a really bad idea but I'm not an expert. You can change medications if you're not happy with clonazepam but you'll probably still have twitches. You need to find out what's going on with your nervous system and fix it. Yoga is probably only irritating your issues. Be careful!
Avatar f tn A lot of these medications were invented for other uses and are used not only for headache but also epilepsy and depression. They have proven very effective in preventing headaches. The second medication is abortive, meaning it is used when a headache is coming on. The medication used depends on the nature of a headache. If it is a migraine type headache, a group of medications called triptans can be used. And so on.
Avatar f tn Are you taking any other medications? Like antidepressants for example? Have the muscle spasms been happening the entire time you have been on the tramadol? Also, you said you take 1, 150 mg pill, but Im confused by that. Unless its the ER, then they are 50 mg tabs. I know that they have Ultram ER but thats in 100, 200 and 300mg, so if you could clarify that That would be helpful as well.
Avatar m tn You may be more likely to have a seizure while taking tramadol if you have a history of seizures or head injury, a metabolic disorder, or if you are taking certain medicines such as antidepressants, muscle relaxers, or medicine for nausea and vomiting. Take tramadol exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take it in larger doses or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Do not take more than 300 milligrams of tramadol in one day.

Avatar m tn Within minutes there is cold water pulsing over my pain points and within 20 minutes or so the headache has subsided. I took medications and combinations of medications and couldn't deal with the side effects. I'm also on anti-depressents and the combination was not good. Even though the unit was a little bit of an investment, it was a lot less expensive than my co-pays on my drugs and my whole family uses it. Hope this helps! M.R.
Avatar m tn When depression does not benefit by the usual antidepressants or therapy, psychiatrists can use drugs approved for other uses, usually anti-seizure or anti-psychotic medications, to see if they will work. Some doctors will use these first, because many doctors are not very bright and do whatever the pharmaceutical company salespeople tell them to do.
Avatar n tn functioning, but having no recollection. There are a number of anti-seizure medications that will completely handle the seizures. But it is not a cure. Other possibilities are TIA Transient Ischemic Attack. Basically mini strokes. I was never treated for this. AVM Arterio Veinous Malformations. A "birdsnest" of small veins within the brain. They can cause all sorts of issues, including the ones you describe. Surgery is the option here.
405614 tn?1329147714 But she also told me that it is also very common in the general population. I have had RLS and Restless Arms also, for many years. I have tried all kinds of medications, but if it is going to act up, it acts up, no matter what I take to try to prevent it. The past two nights were especially bothersome episodes. The crawling sensation in my arms actually makes me squeeze my arms or even bite my arms (I know, weird) just trying to get the crawling sensations to stop.
Avatar f tn She underwent an uncomplicated hernia operation about 6 weeks ago. Yesterday as we left a restaurant, (she uses a walker) she was suddenly unable to take another step, she lost all muscle strength and just wanted to sit on the floor. My husband and I managed to carry her (she was like dead weight) to the car (she refused to go to the hospital) and she recovered after about 10 minutes. She seemed quite "out of it" only vaguely aware of what we were doing.
Avatar m tn My son (now 4) was a fairly normal toddler with the exception of being ill more than normal children. After developing a bacterial infection that was resistant to all medications except veincomycin (sorry on spelling), he had a grand mal seizure. He has not been the same since... He has suffered from night terrors off and on since 2 years old. He gets nervous and anxious when in public and acts out inappropriately. He walks on his tip toes and uses repetitive speech.
Avatar n tn After that i fell to the floor and began going into a seizure. I was wondering if me smoking weed was the reason for me going into the seizure.
