Avatar n tn Lamictal was on blacklabel(not FDA approved) for anyone under the age of 16 with bi polar disorder. I believe its approved for adults with bi polar disorder...but yet i couldnt see how anyone would be willing to take a 3,1000 chance of getting a horrible life trheatning reaction..which I got...this is not RARE at all. The chances are very extreme. I aws in a burn center for 6 weeks..a respirator for 3. I asn't able to eat or drink for a month. my eyes were badly damaged from this...
Avatar f tn It would be worth following up with a neurologist for a full eeg test (they have specific eeg tests where a seizure is triggered in a controlled setting) and any other tests they believe to be relevant. Then they could determine what appropriate follow up and treatment would be. If she has a psychiatric disability as some anti-convulsants used for bipolar and other medications can as an adverse side effect lower the seizure threshold they should speak with her psychiatrist as well.

Avatar n tn To Whom it May Concern: I am 47 years old and have had bi-polar diorder for 28 years, since I was 19. At nineteen my weight was about 140. My weight today is 307 pounds. I have been told that this is because of all the meds I have taken over the years. Seven years ago I was 250 pounds and had a lot less health problems. What I want to know is which of the meds I take now are causing me to gain weight. I take neurontin, 400mg, twice a day, zyprexa, 10 mg.

1039200 tn?1314915608 I suffer from bi-polar disorder herniated disks and i take gabapentin, morphine for that and triliptal for bi-polar, which they dont seem to be working as well as they used to anymore so ive asked my pharmacist what she recommends and she recommended lyrica. As you know pharmacists know way more about drugs than doctors, but I am super excited to get started on my Lyrica tomorrow!
Avatar f tn It's also used to treat bi polar and seizure disorders. It's commonly well tolerated but there are always exceptions.
1027802 tn?1253125706 and for years it was mis diagnosed as bi polar,depression,etc...maybe so but when diagnosed with ms in august it all made sense...it all fit.i had probably been walking through life for well over ten years with ms.i still to this day cry for no apparent reason not to say that depression doesnt have an impact.i had at periods and points checked into and comitted to various mental institutions due to my mind problems when all along it must have been the monster MS......
Avatar n tn I take neurontin for my bi-polar disorder. I take 600mg's twice a day. It controls my mania and is very succesful. I heard it was supposed to help migraines too, but i still get them all the time so I'd say that it isn't a very good pain killer.
11119474 tn?1428705770 Wow that must of been a shock and a half, no wonder your so upset! I am so glad your changing your GP, it's very common to stay with the same doctor year after year, trusting they will do their best and look after you.
Avatar n tn Hey there, I have no personal experiance with those drugs taking them anyway but i pass medications for a living in a nursing home and depecot is an anti-seizure medication also used for physc patients so yes very much used for what u have but be careful with it- we just started someone at my work on a high dose and they are completly snowed. sleep all the time but that did not happen until after like a week and a half of being on it.
Avatar f tn i have bi-polar too, and i have been havin A-typical seiazures since i was ten but i was diagnosed with bi-polar about a year ago. im thinkin my seizures have something to do liek with my mood all being effected in my brain somehow idk the doctors dont either. maybe it was there b4 the medication?
568456 tn?1222039662 HAS ANYONE HAD ECT BEFORE FOR TREATING BI-POLAR, IF SO, WHAT WERE THE RESULTS? WHAT TYPE OF COUNSELING HAVE THEY SOUGHT, IF ANY? HAVE CURRENT MEDS SEEMED TO HELP?
406957 tn?1203000500 I have been there also. epilectic meds are used for many different reasons. It is used often for bipolar depression. I was on Neurontin for awhile, but it really never helped. I use Lyrica, (which is also for epilepsy) for my fiibromyalgia, as I have alot of nerve pain. when did you start your new medicine? This may not help, but you may want to give it some time. I try serouquel and I also hated it. Have you asked your dr about Lamictal. I take 150mg 2 times a day. It does help me.
479255 tn?1208119748 I just saw an advert for bi-polar disease that made me stiffen up and read.
Avatar f tn Hi, hope its going better with the meds. To answer your question its hard to tell if you are bi polar without a manic episode occuring, then having a doctor tell you if you fit tbe description.
Avatar n tn He had a withdrawal seizure during the process, but I'd still do it again. Depakote is used to treat bi-polar disorder as well, but seems to have the opposite effect in a lot of patients - at least the ones that post on the Internet! Hope this helps. (Go to eGroups Epilepsy and read some of the previous postings.
Avatar n tn I will try my best to address your concerns, although it is important that you realize that diagnosis is contingent on a thorough history and exam; since I am not able to do either, the following information should be used solely for educational purposes. As you may already know, epilepsy is a diagnosis that is made when and individual has greater than one unprovoked seizure.
Avatar n tn Take heart, I am Bi-Polar as well. I am not on medications however, mostly because my fiancee' is also Bi-Polar and we do extremely well together to keep one another as on an "even keel" so to say. We both are also Borderline Personality, which also we work together on. I have 2 beautiful girls who are 14 and 9 years old, and I'm pregnant again. I have bee extremely fortunate to not experience postpartum depression.
2126606 tn?1346348724 Opioid-induced hyperalgesia is a condition where the increased use of opiates, like Oxycontin and hydrocodone, heightens one's sensitivity to discomfort and reduces their tolerance for pain. Essentially, people will increase the amount of painkillers they are taking as their discomfort continues to escalate, but the added medication can actually make their pain worse.
Avatar n tn the only thing i would question would be the use of depakote and trilepal....they are both anti-seizure medications that are commonly used as mood stabilizers. He needs the risperdal to deal with the psychosis. The episode you described where he drove until he ran out of gas and ran 8 miles home, doesn't sound like a delusional episode...it sounds more like a manic episode, which is part of the illness. I agree with you that he needs both therapy and meds. Overmedicating is a common issue...
Avatar f tn Paxil's an antidepressant, Klonepin is a time released (not fast acting) tranquilizer, and Seroquel is used to treat depression, anxiety, bi-polar depression, and is also used for sleep. The Seroquel, in a therapeutic dose Rx'd for sleep may bring him some peace. When we don't get adequate rest, our whole physiology can just begin to get so stressed, speaking from experience! I don't know much about Paxil.
Avatar m tn both bi-polar and anemia can be significantly exacerbated by current SOC. My husband, like yourself, is 58, and was warned by several doctors that treating may dangerous -- his hep doc has gone as far as to say "most doctors would not accept you as a treatment patient, you understand..." (hubby has a cardiac condition, hx of cancer, and cirrhosis) -- We'll have to sign all kinds of "release" forms before he can start treatment.
Avatar n tn And of course thats fime, I love my son very much and I would do anything for him, but I see many people recieving Social security Disability for such things as Alcoholisim, Drug Addiction Damage, Bi-Polar syndromes, Injured Backs and even injured toes..Yet here is a gifted young man with a obvious disability who cannot get any help outside of what I am able to provide for him because I cannot get a solid diagnosis, and without that he qualifys for nothing in the way of programs or SSI..
647754 tn?1270040511 Clinical studies for that are ongoing though. As for the experimental mood stabilizers listed since they all approved medications but used off label a mood disorders specialist would be legally allowed and perfectly willing to prescribe them now though I don't want to reccommend one over the other as each person reacts differently to different medications.
1052851 tn?1307744760 , which means I would discuss a sensitive subject and start crying. Last Friday, I was sure I was headed for either a seizure again or a heart attack. I couldnt sit still, I felt sick to my stomach, dizzy, and my heart was pounding. I thought the best thing I could do at that point was to make myself vomit to get whatever was left in my stomach out and go to bed, and hope I would wake up feeling better.
491030 tn?1242428366 I'm not sure about Neurontin's effectiveness against opiate wds but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't do much. It's primarily an anti-seizure med but it's also used for pain relief even tho it has no narcotic properties whatsoever. But again you don't want to take the Trileptal and Neurontin together... these are also meds that need to be tapered slowly as opposed to just stopping cuz there's a pretty high risk for seizures there as well.
Avatar n tn Prometa which is just a trademark for a protocol using 3 drugs that have been around forever flumanzenil-originally used for overdose of benzodiazapines gabapentin-originally designed for seizure and hydroxazine-an antihistamine one of the first synthesized these three used together by an MD who prescribes for its use will be using the Prometa protocol not FDA approved as of yet.
