Avatar m tn I have a really long list of the medications I have taken for rapid cycling bi bi-polar disorder, when your doctor says ' you know how each medication works each section of your illness a lot better than I ever can ' worry, she's really after a holiday really :-D All jokes aside , my key word in this would have to be combination, in bi-polar disorder depending on your diagnosis can be as important as the diagnosis.
Avatar f tn Other medical/psychiatric conditions I have are hypothyroidism and bi-polar disorder/depression for which I take levothyroxine (Synthroid), divalproex (Depakote) and bupropion (Welbutrin). The medication information for the Medrol dose-pack states cautious use in those with hypothyroidism, psychiatric history, being treated with an anti-convulsant, and on bupropion, as it could produce mood changes and affect the seizure threshold.
Avatar m tn I know you from the bi polar board. I have been taking celexa for 8 years now. It works great It has worked on both my depression and my anxiety. It is imprtatn for bi polars to be on both a mood stabilizer as well as an antidepressant. On e with out the other will make you go the oppisite way. NO Caffeinne or sugar as these will aggrave the bi polar. exercise and regular diet and rest will also help you stablize Be sure you give your meds 4- 6 weeks to kick in.

Avatar m tn The hospital diagnosed me with bi polar disorder. Last year I had another incident ( of depression) which lasted about 7 months and then relapsed again. I am presently suffering from anxiety and my meds include Ativan1mg, LuvoxCE150,celexa 30mg.,and seroquel 200mg at night and 50 mg during the day. Does this appear to be the right mix of medications? Is there something better for anxiety?

Avatar f tn Yes there is a correlation between and addiction and bi-polar but the problem is that more often than not the addiction is at least making the bi-polar worse if not causing it completely. I used my bi-polar condition as an excuse for years. It allowed me to convince my wife that my opiate use was not causing my mood swings. There are medications for bi-polar but opiates, amphetamines, and benzos are definitely not among them.

Avatar f tn I am bi polar and throidless. I was DX bi polar in 98 and my substernal goiter with the cancer came out in 06. I am pretty sure I have been bi polar since birth. In my research to my burning question of which came first I found that bi polars have a higher chance of developing thyroid problems. Also I know from first hand experience that hyperthyroid is exactly like tha manic side of bi polar and hypothyroid feels just like the depression side.
Avatar f tn That one website has all FDA approved medications used off label as mood stabilizers. There are a fair amount of options for people who have tried the commonly used options (lithium, Depakoate, Lamictal, atypical antipsychotics) but not all psychiatrists are familiar with them. You don't have to change providers but could accept a referral to a mood disorders specialist and then go back to your regular psychiatrist after you were started on another medication. I almost had to go that route.

Avatar n tn Bipolar 2 is much different than Bi-polar 1. Bi-polar 1 sufferers go for extecned periods of uporic mania, to prolonged periods of very deep depression. Not the case with Bi-polar 2 as with it, Uporic mania is seldom a symptom. With Bi-polar 2 the symptoms can be more rapid cycling and move to a kind of agitated hypomania that is NOT at all uporic and can be explosive and anxiety filled.
Avatar f tn I would imagine there is crossover! Is your Bi polar well controlled? Do you take medication for it? I also have very up and down moods. Bouts of anxiety, bouts of sadness, hormones that shift quickly and almost like they 'cycle' like the situation with bipolar. It's a lot to deal with at times, right?
