422425 tn?1307996590 I am having some strange symptoms that I think might be side effects....Just wondering if anyone who has taken it had really weird sleep distubances like funky dreams and feeling like you are drowning. I don't want to quit taking it because it really helps, but this is weird. Just wondering, thought I would post this before asking my DR.
Avatar f tn All of the symptoms you describe are consistent with the use of Tegretol especially in the early stages. As your body becomes acustomed to it, these side effects should dissipate.
Avatar f tn Would you discuss with your endo how your metabolic system will work without some substitue for your hypothyroidic condition? There are many other synthetics on the market that may not have the same side effects, but no dosing at all does not sound pro active or beneficial to your health. Best.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if mixing that and marijuana would cause any serious side effects (i.e. seizures)? The nurse that prescribed the Lexapro and Adderall said I should just drink milk because the tryptophan would counter the interaction. I know.. it's bad to use illegal drugs and everything but I'm just experimenting a bit and know I won't try anything else. And just because someone asked me already... I won't abuse the Adderall even though a lot of people do.
Avatar m tn because those side effects indicate too much is in their system.like I said it took 3 years for her to get those effects and it was because her high levels.her effects are no control of her rear legs.sleeps all the time, and no motivation.hope this helps someone.
Avatar f tn I am amazed at all of the people who were able to carry on during treatment. I was TOTALLY disabled, so I guess it's more rare to have my side effects. I was barely alive for the whole year of treatment. Don't want to scare you, I did make it. There was no way that I could work. I had every side effect imaginable, but I don't do medications well. Good luck to you and you probably WON'T be like me, but if you are, just know that you will get thru it.
Avatar n tn I am not, nor do I believe I ever will be 100% completely seizure free, but my side effects of the medication are bothersome to me. Mainly, difficulty in concentration. So I've been taking ginko biloba lately and it seems to clear my head somewhat. Will this lower my threshold level? Also, what else can I do besides proper sleep, diet, medication, and exercise to manage my condition best.
Avatar f tn Is it a good idea to allow the doctor to treat me using these medications, what are the benefits and side effects. I am reluctant to start taking these drugs however I am at the point where I am finding daily life a real struggle and don't know what other options I have. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar f tn It is the only medication that controls my neuropathic pain. All medications, including Aspirin - come with side effects. One of Lyrica's side effects is weight gain. Yup - I've gained 17lbs in a year. I'm currently attempting to reduce my weight - but I'll take those pounds to have relief from the nerve pain. It's been an awesome addition to my pain relieving regime. It's also pricey as there are no Generics - yet.
Avatar m tn However, we also don't know if she would never have a seizure again (or could have one several years later). 3) Really concerned about the side effects of drugs. Are people able to to function at their previous levels? 4) Does anyone else have a similar situation where a seizure was caused by a brain lesion? IS there a high chance of recurrence? ANother big question is "why now after 28 years?" Will the next seizure be in 28 years? I appreciate if you read this entire post!
Avatar f tn Seizures develop different signs over the years, and some of the medications have severe side effects, so make sure you pay attention to your child's change in behavior. For me, a sign of a possible seizure to come can be agitation, anger, frustration, short temper, and in the hours before I'm extremely tired. From what I've heard, during my complex partial seizures I yell out like I'm in pain and sometimes drop to the floor.
1653487 tn?1303527762 70% of people are able to obtain seizure control via medications alone, the medications are not exactly easy to deal with, i.e. unpleasant side effects. Known, in the epilepsy community, as "necessary poisons." :) But they help many. Some of the newer meds have fewer side effects, and they do have XR vsersions, which are easier to take (vs. 3-4 times a day!) Well, good luck to you--I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Avatar n tn Hi there I am 28 yrs old female I started with a stroke like episode 5 years ago after a head injury, Now every month I have a seizure with bad after migraine and right side weakness including facial... I am on no medication apart from Amitrypaline to help me sleep, and the only dx I have had from several dr's is we dont know or non epileptic seizures due to migraine?? it makes no sense at all I would have been better off if they said hemaplegic migraines... now I feel like im going mad...
Avatar f tn I was worried because he usually bounced back right away from his seizures. I called the vet and they said it was side effects from the seizure and pb, they said he would be back to normal in 2-7 days. I was really skeptical because he was acting so strange but I was still patient with him. Next day he would not stop whining and pacing the house. Second day he woke up much better he remembered a few more stuff but not completely back to normal about 70%.
Avatar n tn I don't claim to know how your boyfriend experiences them, but he will probably never forget the side-effects. I have had approximately 40 Tonic-Clonic seizures since 1983. My seizures have varied in length, severity and side effects. Some have caused severe memory loss at the time, but slowly my memory came back. Some are life changing, and some are a minor inconvenience, but all are life threatening. What I must tell you is that in MY experience T-C seizures DO cause damage to the brain.
Avatar f tn which is actually why they're so good at that side effect of *drowsiness* that you're trying to exploit right now, vs. their 2nd generation counterparts such as Zyrtec and Claritin which are more "selective" toward the peripheral nervous system. For antihistamine (anti-allergy) purposes, a 2nd gen. antihistamine would be preferable because it wouldn't mess with the central nervous system.
Avatar n tn I was taking half a day, then one a day, then up to 6 a day. Then I started having awful side effects. My back pain got worse, my tongue was swelling some, and had stomach pain too. Then I had my lumbar injection and the pain got worse. I am scared this is an allergic reaction. I had my lumbar steroid injection, and the pain got worse, so my Dr prescribed Tylenol 4. I haven't taken the Percocet in over a day now, as it has scared me. I took the Tylenol 4 only twice yesterday.
2030686 tn?1351692148 I remember the gastro saying I needed to be seizure free for so long b4 I can tx. Does anybody know why this is? Will the medications lower my seizure threshold even more? My reg dr put in a call to the neuro after I had a few seizures this weekend and she put me on Keppra.
Avatar n tn Good Morning. My 14 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with seizure activity in the left side of her brain after having an EEG. She fainted twice in the spring and after several tests it was determined that she had hypoglycemia. We started feeding her more frequent smaller meals.
Avatar f tn Once within a therapeutic range, the seizures should subside quickly, though there may still be an occasional seizure. Other side effects (lethargy, disinterest, etc.) of the drug should also start to disappear within a two week period. Some dogs simply do not tolerate phenobarbital or potassium bromide, in which case it's worth looking at other similar anticonvulsant medications available. You WILL get your dog back ... just be patient a while longer.
Avatar m tn I strongly feel, that unless there is a significant reason (severe side effects, medical problems, financial reasons)...then if it isn't broken...why fix it? I think coming off the Xanax was a good thing though, because of the tolerance issues.
Avatar f tn Do this for approximately 10 minutes and try and do this 4 times a day. This can be done for as long as required without any side effects that you can sometimes get with taking medications for congestion and nasal sprays. As he has an ear infection and is feeling unwell, keep him at home for a few days, keep him warm and let him rest and give him plenty of warm diluted juices to drink. Honey and freshly squeezed lemon juice with hot water is very nice if he likes this.
Avatar f tn the pain or the fear of adverse drug interactions/physical and psychiatric side effects of taking the drugs to treat the pain!
Avatar n tn My doctor increased the dose gradually. I have had very few side effects. ANY drug can cause side effects and should be used with caution and discussed with your doctor. This is where a doctor/patient relationship is extremely important. The only side effect that I have experienced is slight fatigue and confusion when my dosage was increased--this went away once my body adjusted to the medication. It has helped my migraine headaches a lot.
Avatar f tn First, start it very slowly, and step up the dosage very, very slowly. If you dive into it, it will give you side effects that will make you quit using it before it has a chance to help you at all. Secondly, read the Health Pages (look over on that -----> side of the page somewhere to access a listing of them) that talk about treating neuropathic pain. Pain in the nervous system is different from other pains, like muscle and joint pain or headache.
Avatar f tn I am fully aware of the side affects of this medication as with all medications but I had to find out most of the side affects by doing research on my own. She also stated he will need to be on this medication for at least two years before being able to come off of it. When asked what will be the determination for coming off of it she replied seizure free during the two years and a good EEG.
215234 tn?1305146561 Thanks PK, but sorry I think you may of misunderstood my post, (I'm English...
163305 tn?1333672171 that was prescribed and came with a whole rap sheet of horrible side effects, yet really did nothing to get rid of the cancer. Maybe the cancer would have taken her sooner, but she'd have lived a more enjoyable, less painful couple of years? I certainly don't know the answer to that, but if I had it to over again, I might give it some thought, though marijuana is not legal in FL and I'd risk going to jail for buying it.
Avatar m tn And because the medications used to lessen seizures have side effects whether to begin treatment is determined on how often and how severe seizure activity may be. Before the advent of advanced imaging: MRI, CT often the work up of a presumed epilepsy case would stop after CBC, chem profile, urinalysis and maybe chest and abdominal xrays. Together these items often are called a "minimum database.
