1559533 tn?1308948561 Yes, anti-seizure medications (Tegretol, Gabapentin, Lyrica, etc) are used to treat neuropathic pain (things like Trigeminal Neuralgia or Dysthesias.) They can also be used to treat seizure disorders. They did not seem to effect my diagnosis. They did not effect my neuro exams, MRI, VEP, LP, etc.
Avatar f tn July was the last time i had a seizure (I took myself of the medications and I havent had one seizure since then...I know i hate taking pills) But from August of this year I have been having some horrible pain in the left side of my head that last about 3-10 minutes. It usually occurs early in the morning when I wake then it occurs at least 2 or 3 times during the day.
Avatar n tn It’s true, stopping your medications could lead to more seizure. You could ask your doctor what other medications you can use. It’s good that your EEG result was normal. You should also know about the triggers that could cause seizure such as infection, drugs, lack of sleep or hormones. : Here’s a link for the triggers: http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/info/triggers.html What kind of cyst do you have? Do you have a recent MRI? Would you know if the size of the cyst has increased?
Avatar f tn Does anyone take Geodon with Triliptel? I know I'm not spelling these medications correctly, sorry.
Avatar m tn I do know one things most of the anti-seizure medications robs out bodies vitamins and minerals that are needed by our bodies on a daily basis. To stay healthy we need so much vitamins and minerals and fluids on a daily intake. When, I took Tegretol, I did not have the appatite to eat what I should. My bones were litterly being robbed of Calcium and Mangnesium without me even realizing it. I took the Tegretol for a little over 10 yrs.
959034 tn?1253671476 I am 47 and have had seizures since the onset of my menstrual cycle when I was 13. As the years have gone by new medications came about. At first I was on phenobarbital and tegretol. Those only lightened the seizures. Later I was put on Dilantin. A little more helpful but not controlling. When I was about 28, a doctor put me on Depakene (Depakote). It suppressed my seizures well. I always felt worse during my periods or when i was stressed or lack of sleep.
Avatar n tn * phenytoin (Dilantin), * valproic acid (Depakote, Depakote ER, Depakene, Depacon), * carbamazepine (Tegretol, Tegretol XR, Equertro), and * phenobarbital Antibiotics such as: * tetracyclines, [for example, tetracycline (Achromycin)] * sulfonamides, * isoniazid (INH) (Nydrazid, Laniazid) * sulfamethoxazole (Gantanol), * trimethoprim (Trimpex; Proloprim, Primsol) * nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin; Furadantin; Macrobid), * fluconazole (Diflucan
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with a Partial Complex Seizure Disorder for almost 7 years and no one knows what is causing them. I have been to specialists in Minnesota at Mincep, tried on several medications, but nothing seems to work. I had been going to one doctor for 4 years until she told me she could no longer help me and referred me to another neurologist. Well now I'm taking Dilantin (was already prescribed) , Gabitril, Celexa, Klonapin, and Darvocett for the migraines.
Avatar m tn Hi, I m desperately looking for help after seeing tons of neurologist and neuro surgeon about my daily chronic tension headache and tingling burning pain on my left side of body after a seizure last year due to a brain aneurysm. I m since on 400mg of tegretol cr daily and i suspected tegretol is the cause of my suffering. Any personal experience or advise to help ? All scans and test turn out fine.
Avatar n tn Most of the time Tegretol is prescribed for Seizure activity
Avatar n tn Most doctors will consider tapering the dosage and discontinuing seizure medicines after a seizure-free period of 2 years. Some doctors taper seizure medications over 6 weeks. There is this study that shows no difference whether the medications are tapered over a six-week or a nine-month period. One advantage of shorter taper period is that the outcome of the attempt to discontinue treatment may be known sooner, shortening the period of adjustment for the patient.(http://content.nejm.
1374874 tn?1278686480 wondering if anyone who is taking Tegretol can let me know how long before the tegretol kicked in and you felt some relief?? They want me to go off of it already and try something new but I wanted to give it another week. Ive been on it 10 days and they want me to wean off of it on day 14 if still no pain relief...and try a new drug.
Avatar f tn While not curable, many people find long term pain relief through medications, or surgeries, or alternatives such as Accupuncture. I am unfamiliar with the drug you mentioned. Is it an anti-seizure medication? Most doctors give Tegretol, Trileptal, or gabapentin, anti-seizure drugs used "off label" for Trigeminal neuralgia.
Avatar f tn i take meds for epilepsy & have used xanax recreationally in the past. i recently got 30 & took one "bar" a day for about a week - (maybe 2 on sunday night) then didnt take any since sunday. tuesday i had a mild seizure. do you think ive been "on it" long enough for that to be the cause of that seizure?? - b.
423251 tn?1308955333 I was prescribed it for the pain but do wonder if maybe it is counter acting with my tegretol since both are used for seizure control! I know that too much of an anti-seizure medicine can create seizures! I am on 400mg a day of tegretol which I take twice a day in 200mg doses and the lyrica is 75mg at a time so 150mg total! I do get the sleepy feeling so I really fight that so that I can do what I need to do involving my household and kids!
Avatar m tn 9 and white blood cell of 3.2 base on my last blood test result. I have been on seizure drug tegretol for the past one and half years and have had no more seizures. Have tried coming off tegretol for 3 weeks to find out whether this drug is causing my blood disorder but blood test result still showing a decreasing trend of haemoglobin and white blood cell. My question is should I withdraw from this seizure drug longer than 3 weeks to see an improvement in my red and white blood cells ?
Avatar f tn Dilantin was toxic to me in even small doses...it made me so sick. That was the first medication I ever tried and it didn't really help so my nuerologist kept increasing my dose despite what I was telling him. Then he put me on Tegretol which caused me to have major balance issues and night paralysis, every night, several times a night...very disturbing.
452529 tn?1361847855 I saw a neurologist in 2004 and was put on carbatrol and taken off tegretol...well another seizure occurred. I stopped seeing that Dr. and went to a psych. with a background in neurology. He said my the tegretol was not carrying over until I took my night-time dose. So I was put on XR tegs. and prescribed klonipin for the jerks. Last month I was taken off 100mg of dilantin and I had a seizure on 3/30/08 and I asked to be put back on 400mg of dil, 800mg of teg, and 1500mg of depakote. The Dr.
1415565 tn?1282052899 All of the neuropathic pain meds are based on anti-seizure medications. Tegreto is the preferred med in most childhood epilepsy and is the first line drug ion treating TN. Don't worry about it. If you read up on 100% of the drugs we use you would take none of them. The literature has to report EVERYTHING that has ever occurred on meds even if it had nothing to do with it. I was on Tegretol for TN also. Never had any side effect from it.
Avatar f tn and they took him off.... Should the next drug of choice be tegretol??? Instead of topamax for left frontal temporal lobe seizres... I'm the same lady writing about my son earlier under the same topic.
1168718 tn?1464983535 Somatosensory system pain (neuropathic pain) seems to respond better to GABA drugs. GABA drugs are primarily anti-seizure medications that seem to effect the currents in the voltage dependent calcium channels of the nervous system. Different drugs for different types of pain. There are people on this forum that use both. I take a different anti seizure medication (Tegretol) that works by keeping more of the voltage dependent sodium gates inactivated.
Avatar f tn To make a long story short I am experiencing similiar symtoms now from an increase in tegretol which I take for a seizure disorder. I now have swithed to dylantin but the crazy symptoms won't go away. I felt a comfort 6 yars ago when I had a benzo support group in town. That group has disbanded and now I feel so crazy and alone with some bizarre symptoms.
Avatar n tn i've had epilepsy since the age of four. i am now fifty four and take 1600mgs tegretol,160mgs phenobarbitol 300mgs effexorxr for depression and 3mgs xanex-xr. i've recently swithched to generic tegretol and feel a bit funny. my memory and reflexes are much poorer and i feel more fatigued.
502693 tn?1249151446 Yes that has helped to put my mind at rest a bit, its just im concerened moving from one AED to another as i have been on tegretol for 20 years now but i guess starting next week we will see how it gos, i guess i just have to give it time, i just hope that keppra also does not make me put more weight on than i already have done with the tegretol. 1673169 tn?1316541930 m going to be weaning off carbmazepine under the instuctions of my doctor starting tonight. Carbmazepine is also called tegretol or epitol. I do not have a seizure disorder, just bipolar. I'm worried about possible effects of comming off of this drug. Will I have a seizure or mood swings? What's going to happen?
338416 tn?1420045702 I am currently on 300mg Carbemazepine (tegretol) tid for seizure control and pain control. To be honest, I have been on tegretol with doses anywhere from 1200mg/daily to 400mg/daily for seizure control and pain control. I am currently on tegretol and Elavil (40mg/night) for pain and I believe that the tegretol is doing very little for pain control, I believe it is the Elavil.
