Seizure medications sulfa

Common Questions and Answers about Seizure medications sulfa

seizure

Avatar m tn I have horrendous headaches - 5 every single day and require opiates. Have tried all other types of anti-seizure medications etc from neurologist but alas, none worked. I am at the end of my tether and wonder if anyone has heard of neurostimulation or neuromodulation and if they work for the nerve damage. My life is just a round of pain now.
1559533 tn?1308948561 Yes, anti-seizure medications (Tegretol, Gabapentin, Lyrica, etc) are used to treat neuropathic pain (things like Trigeminal Neuralgia or Dysthesias.) They can also be used to treat seizure disorders. They did not seem to effect my diagnosis. They did not effect my neuro exams, MRI, VEP, LP, etc.
Avatar f tn My sister has an Allergic reaction to anything that contains Sulfa. My question is can she use product that contains Sulfur, or will she break out from using it..
Avatar f tn I asked my doctor to add HCT, however, because I developed a rash from taking a sulfa antiobiotic 10 years ago, he doesn't want to take the chance. So he put me back on Lotrel along with the Valturna. He said as my BP comes down, he'll adjust the meds. My questions are: (1) I've read that having a rash deveop from a sulfa antiobiotic doesn't necessary mean I'll have an allergic reaction to HCT. Is it safe to try the diuretic to see what happens?
Avatar m tn Yesterday I received a Lipo-Plex injection (B12 with Lipotropics) that contains Methionine a sulfur containing amino acid. I have a Sulfa allergy (normally get an extremely high fever). Should I be worried? I haven't had any side effects. Feeling a little flushed (hot) but that is about it. Otherwise I feel great. Can I continue with these shots? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Clindamycin which is clindamycin hydrochloride is unlikely to have cross reactions with penicillin or sulfa group of medications. Sometimes the inactive ingredients in the medications can cause an allergic reaction. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn She had lost over 20 lbs. Now she is on Lasix since Nov and having same symptoms. She is also allergic to sulfa.
Avatar n tn I know this is a weird question however my husband just started on it and I am afraid that I am having a reaction to it. I have allergies to Sulfa, PCN, biaxin, macrodantin..As well as a milk allergy and strawberries.
Avatar m tn Hi there, i had a brain injury in feb and havent had any seizures yet but i was told in order to get back to driving/work etc i might have to take an anti-seizure medication. What medications are there? And i was told by someone else that they will slow down my recovery. because they are stimulants? in what way would they slow it down?
Avatar n tn There are many pain medications without any codeine in them. I think it may be that sulfa is present in a lot of medications that come in pill form, and that's causing your dilemma? Allergies can be such a pain sometimes.....Maybe your medication taken in liquid form would not cause you any problems. good luck..
Avatar f tn During this time I have also developed Psoriatic Arthritis and have been put on a Sulfa Drug. They have been monitoring my blood work up close for the past 3 months and have noted that my white cell count is low most of the time. The highest it has been in these past months is the bottom end of normal, but lingering around 3.0. Also, my red cell count is down a bit too around 3.8.
Avatar f tn I am really allergic to all sulfa, sulfate, sulfites. I need to get off of these as much as possible and it is in everything! Food, meds, and other various things. Anyone have a website that could help me with this or other that resources?
Avatar f tn About 3 months back i had a kidney infection, they put me on sulfa base medicine and i discovered i was allergic to the sulfa and had a drug.reaction toit. They had given me a steroid shot and steroid pills to continue taking for about 8-10 days. Along with a antihistamine. They worked and rash was cleared up. The same rash appeared about 2 weeks later again i went to the doctor and they did the same routine (steroid and antihistamine). Cleared up again.
Avatar f tn However remember our systems are all different. Some of the meds that it may not interact well with include, a few seizure medications, some oral diabetes control meds, tricyclic antidepressants and diuretics (water pills) such as hydrochlorothiazide. I cannot take Sulfa either....and many other ATB. If the routine you are using is working to control your pain and still take the ATB as prescribed than continue. Inform your PCP or your pharmacist of how you are taking your meds.
Avatar f tn Are you, by any chance, allergic to sulfa drugs? My sister had a similar reaction to hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), and the doctor said it was because she was allergic to sulfa. My sister had not put her sulfa allergy on her medical history form at the cardiologist's office, because the sulfa reaction had been so long ago. When the doctor prescribed HCTZ, which evidently has sulfa in it, my sister reacted to that.
Avatar n tn I will probably go to the doctor tomorrow for an official dipstick test, but I am worried that they will error on the side of caution and prescribe Septra or Bactrim. I am terrified, literally terrified, of trying a sulfa drug because of some of the horror stories on the net. Perhaps I shouldn't be looking at those accounts. Nonetheless, is there any reason to think that my problems with some antibiotics will be universal? I have successfully taken erythromycin, zithromax and biaxin.
1435895 tn?1304291241 I have tried numerous migraine meds, ultram, afraid to take seizure meds,(since I am not having seizures) had an allergic reaction to nortriptylline which did seem to be working. I feel like I really need to have this pain managed but I dont think anything will work for it. Any suggestions? I am just sick of not feeling well and I dont have a high tolerance for pain.
Avatar n tn If I am allergic to tetracycline, a sulfa drug, would I be allergic to diamox, another sulfa drug? This discussion is related to pseudo papilledema.

Avatar f tn Hi, Skin reactions are the most common adverse reactions to sulfa medications, ranging from various benign rashes to more forms. Hives and increased sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity) are also possible. There is a possibility that if the sulfa medication is continued despite a mild rash occurring, the rash could progress to a more severe form of skin reaction. Hives is an allergic skin reaction causing localized redness, swelling, and itching. This is what you could be having.
12182312 tn?1427683956 If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.".
Avatar f tn I would say that it potentially could be caused by the sulfa medication. Sulfa drugs have an effect on every body system. If it continues, call the doctor that prescribed to make sure he/she doesn't want to see you.
