1559533 tn?1308948561 Yes, anti-seizure medications (Tegretol, Gabapentin, Lyrica, etc) are used to treat neuropathic pain (things like Trigeminal Neuralgia or Dysthesias.) They can also be used to treat seizure disorders. They did not seem to effect my diagnosis. They did not effect my neuro exams, MRI, VEP, LP, etc.

What medications are there? And i was told by someone else that they will slow down my recovery. because they are stimulants? in what way would they slow it down?

From your experience, do you think we should expect another? We can expect another if a) His sleep is compromised, b) His medications are not properly prescribed, 3) His stress levels are high. Why did he turn purple? Is it common during a seizure?
Avatar n tn I have a 7 year old choc. lab. The other night he was asleep and he bounced up and fell on his side, his legs began to stiffen and stretch. His eyes were open but he was non-responsive. He was having trouble breathing then he just stopped breathing and he died. I tried to give him cpr but couldn't revive him. I think it might have been a seizure. Can you help explain what happened? He has no past problems other than hip dysplesia. No medications were given.
Avatar f tn My neurologist wants me off Dilantin because of bone loss and possible cerebella(sp) can develop - I have been taking Dilantin since I was a teenager - I am now 66 - my level runs around 13 - I take 330mg a day - I also take calcium 1200 with d3, magnesium, and multi vit.

As far as he could tell structure of the eye etc were normal, but he said he didn't have all the specialist equipment needed for more detailed assessment. What does this sound like it could be? Could medications cause any of this? Thanks for any insights.

Could this seizure have been associated with the use of nitrous or lidocaine? Also, I have been experiencing severe headaches and light-headedness since the seizure.

Despite the low frequency, due to long duration (~1hr! in both cases) the doctor suggested to start medication and suggested depakine (valproid acid) mentioning it could potentially help with the attention deficit problem (ADD / ADHD).

MY DOCTOR IS NEW TO ME CAUSE I JUST MOVED OUT OF STATE 2 WEEKS AGO , HALF WAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY. SO I DON'T KNOW HIM VERY WELL AND HE SAID I CAN TAKE IT IF I'M EPILEPTIC BUT I HAVE ONLY KNOWN HIM FOR 2 WEEKS. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS A BIG DEAL TO HIM OR IF HE'S JUST SAYING THAT. I NEED SOMEONE WITH KNOWLEDGE ON THE SUBJUCT OF EPILEPSY IF I CAN TAKE THIS.
Avatar f tn I have just been to see the neurologist and she has supplied me the names of these two medications Lamotrigine or topiramate, which i am to decide which one to use. I have done some research on these two medications mainly on there side effects. A decision will be made on this once I have been to have an EEG.

Avatar n tn The doctor ordered Valium 2 mg because he thought it was seizure related, but the Valium does not help. He was in the ER for 5 hours during the weekend. Believe it or not Benadryl helped him. This might occur 2-3 times per day while in school. He cannot swallow. He does not drool and not having body movements or anything else that resembles a seizure. No pain involved and no spasm of the tongue. Student takes Geodan, Trileptal, Resperdal, Prevacid, and Concerta. He is 19 years old.
Avatar f tn Greetings doctor I am actually doing a research paper on HIV for school and with so much info online from one end of the spectrum to the other I figure I would ask a specialist directly a few questions so here it goes... 1-with testing now a days would you consider 6-8 weeks conclusive? 2-do you believe rapid tests are just as reliable as lab based? 3-do you feel oral rapid tests are just as good as blood? 4-what are the most common symptoms you see with onset of HIV?

Avatar f tn my 16 yr old son who suffers from autism cerebral palsey ocd servere to profound hearing loss and epilepsy has suffered 3 seizures in 2 weeks, 1 tonic seizure may 2, 1 grand mal may 7 and 1 grand mal may 17. he is now taking 1000mg depakote. his depakote level is 105 (he weighs 98 lbs) since his last seizure on may 17 he now cries for hours before he falls asleep, and wakes during the night crying. i think his meds r affecting him. can u please give me an idea to help him?

I was taking oapiates for a while and i tell u i was happier then but maybe cuz i was a little buzzed. but i functioned fine. where are u from? and what kind of dr do u go to? is it ur pcp or psyc dr?

Avatar f tn The pain and vomiting could be due to gastritis. This could be due to the anti-seizure medications. The symptoms could be the side effects of the medications. Discuss your symptoms with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medications. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Im on Trileptol 600mg 3x daily I WAS SO SEDATED-all I did was sleep,Im a mother of 5 ! trileptol-150mg daily furisum 10mg The Trileptol was the only one I responded too, which has caused me to have SO much memeory loss,which I know is the side effect along with the migraines,which I take various types of meds for that when needed.
