Common Questions and Answers about Seizure medications research

seizure

Avatar n tn I suppose a lot of the research showing that it doesn't have so many negative effects made me not so against it. I really highly doubt that I'll ever become a heavy or even medium level user. I know that there is some kind of interaction with just Adderall and Lexapro (serotonin syndrome?). I was wondering if mixing that and marijuana would cause any serious side effects (i.e. seizures)?
Avatar n tn I'm questioning whether i'm having seizures or anxiety. I've been doing a lot of on line research and i'm getting concerned. i have no appetite (it's like i forget to eat) and i've been smoking a lot.
Avatar f tn I know sometimes a cause is never found but is it possible to have a seizure disorder and have a negative EEG? Are there going to be abnormalities if she indeed is having seizures.? She has had a drug addiction to vicodin in the past and we have been suspicious of addiction again- can a seizure be a result of drug withdrawal?
Avatar f tn My 7 year old son was resently diagnosed with Complex partial seizure disorder. This weekend, my husband was home with him and said my son called out to him. When my husband went to him, my son said daddy I feel funny. My husband seems to think it was nothing, I on the other hand have doubts. Since this episode, he has been very aggitated at school and at home, very short tempered, tired, just not acting like himself.
1653487 tn?1303527762 70% of people are able to obtain seizure control via medications alone, the medications are not exactly easy to deal with, i.e. unpleasant side effects. Known, in the epilepsy community, as "necessary poisons." :) But they help many. Some of the newer meds have fewer side effects, and they do have XR vsersions, which are easier to take (vs. 3-4 times a day!) Well, good luck to you--I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Avatar f tn It was initially used/designed for seizure disorders - but like many medications physicians began using it off-label for other conditions. It is now widely used to treat (nerve) pain. It is the only medication that controls my neuropathic pain. All medications, including Aspirin - come with side effects. One of Lyrica's side effects is weight gain. Yup - I've gained 17lbs in a year. I'm currently attempting to reduce my weight - but I'll take those pounds to have relief from the nerve pain.
Avatar f tn It's entirely possible that adverse reactions to MANY medications in Collie-based breeds are a result of the MDR1 gene mutation, but only further research will tell. Whenever seizure activity is chronicled in a Collie-bred dog, however, I am suspicious that the dog is a MDR1 mutation dog and the seizure activity the result of the neurotoxicity resulting from the drug crossing the blood brain barrier and not being removed because of a defective p-glycoprotein.
Avatar f tn Levothyroxine Camrese Concerta Luvox Qvar Singulair I have a family history of Parkinson's and heart problems. I do not know a lot about my family's history. Please help me find answers! I am at college and I can barely go to class without feeling like I'll pass out. Thank you for any help. And yes, I am seeing doctors but even they are puzzled. Going to a neurologist soon. I am absolutely desperate.
Avatar n tn I know a young girl that is 15 years old. She has been having "Seizure like episosodes." She has been to ERs, Doctors, Neurologists, had several tests and no one has been able to completely identify what is worng. She had eegs, ekgs, catscans along with others. Her eeg came back abnormal. Last spring she was struck in the center top of the head with a bat while playing softball. Her ears began rining and she almost passed out later that day. The next day she had her first episode.
Avatar f tn I almost had to take a leave of absence from work, because between my son’s panicked calls and my having to research this difficult thing on my own, it felt like a full-time job. My son had to come home from college on a medical leave. Months later we were told about a cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic. She put him on Hyomax 3x/day and did enough tests to find out his vagus nerve is not functioning correctly, which is the cause of his POTS symptoms.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm new to the site and have found it extremely helpful. I have had Type I diabetes for 10 years now, and have never come across something so useful before. Keep up the great work^^ Onto my question. A couple of weeks ago, I was taken to the hospital by ambulance secondary to a "low blood sugar seizure." I have no recollection of a four hour period before I went to sleep, and then 3 hours after I was found seizing and taken to the emergency room.
Avatar f tn It has been two days since his last seizure but he still hasn't fully recovered, he doesn't know his commands, the people in the house ( including me ), or the other dogs and cats in the house. I want to know if he will even recover from this or if there is something I can do to help. He keeps pacing and whining, even in the middle of the night. Should I bring him in again? Could there be something more serious going on?
Avatar n tn As physicians, it is always important to determine when it is indicated to continue or stop seizure medications. From my perspective, you may be a good candidate for stopping or tapering your anti-seizure medications if the following apply: 1) If you have been seizure free for at least 6 months. Most doctors will consider tapering the dosage and discontinuing your seizure medicines after a seizure-free period of 2 to 4 years.

Avatar m tn I felt so strange and still cannot explain it. A lil over a week of being off these meds I had a full blown seizure. I was outside and fell face first on concrete, busting up the left side of my face, convulsing, foaming at the mouth and was clueless as to why I was on the ground. I am still waiting for answers on to why this happened. I have got through the hardest part of getting off the meds, but I am still feeling off. I can't explain the feeling I have in my head/brain.
Avatar n tn Aside from my seizures 4 years ago, I had no previous history of seizure disorder. There has been no seizure activity until this most recent event. Could this seizure have been associated with the use of nitrous or lidocaine? Also, I have been experiencing severe headaches and light-headedness since the seizure.
Avatar f tn He was sick that day with a high fever. The seizure happened in the evening while he was running a high fever. He had the seizure on the floor while watching television and we took him to the emergency room. The seizure lasted about 30 seconds in each state of the tonic-clonic seizure. Thirty second of convulsion, thirty seconds of being out of it then he would come through and roll over and go to sleep.
199882 tn?1310188142 I don't usually discuss the types of medications I take because it's so easy for others to judge us without spending time in our shoes.. My pain has gotten a lot worse over the last few months and I was wondering if I should ask my doctor to increase them or maybe try something else? I've been on the same dosage for about 2 years now... I take: Methadone 10mg 6 x per day, Cymbalta 60mg 1 x per day, Baclofen 10mg 6 x per day, Amitiza 8MCG 2 x per day, and Oxycodone 30mg up to 8 x per day.
215234 tn?1305146561 Well it looks like thankfully after a lot of research, I have found the likely culprit of Roxis seizure, Rosemary aromatherapy oil. causes convulsions in Cats.............& searching around the house, turns out somehow shes managed to get hold of a bottle out of my handbag & has been playing with it, I found it under the back of our bed, so shes obviously carried upstairs in her mouth,....I swear this Cat is actually a Dog in Cats clothing...
Avatar m tn I am currently taking 80 mg of fluoxetine and 100 mg of fluvoxamine each day and have been on medications since about an year and a half I now feel lack of confidence and hand tremors.
363110 tn?1340924019 I know that with pregnancy seizures can increase in about %30 of women and I've done research and found another med that can be safer... i'm on BCP's but the med causes them to not always work like they should (like antibiotics would do) so I take vitamins and 4mg (MG not Mcg) of Folic acid daily...just in case.
Avatar f tn They help with seizures and have many other natural benefits. Research it. Don’t use man made seizure medications, they are bad for your pets organs.
1303966 tn?1296743610 I'm currently not on any medications other than natural supplements. I was on Keppra, but it changed my personality drastically. Has anyone decided to take medications instead of surgery? What I'm trying to say is to control the symptoms rather than opt for such a drastic measure such as surgery. I'm one of those people who do not like to take medications because of the side effects and what the meds may do to my health down the road.
Avatar f tn - I exercise and am getting back into weight lifting - been seizure free for 7 years - I don't want to have seizures again - what is your opinion

Avatar f tn I've related my fatigue, memory issues, and rapid weight gain to seizure medications and seizures. Now I am wondering if some of those symptoms could be thyroid related. QUESTIONS: 1. Is there any known relationship between refractory epilepsy and hypothyroidism? 2. Could an untreated thyroid problem inhibit the potency/effectiveness of anti-seizure medications? Thank you for any insight that you can provide.

Avatar n tn Once, I was weened off the Lorazapam, I noticed a sharp decrease in the number of seizures I had, Anti-Seizure Medications and Anxiety Medications do not mixe well at best. Research clearly shows that Lorazapam, Atavan, and Xanax do not mix with anit-seizure medication and in fact can make your seizure worse. Look into the patients background situation, re-check her medical history, and find out if she is not using street drugs and/or alcohol along with her current medications.
619439 tn?1282097679 Well, I’m finished with the ECT doctor. Yesterday I spent hours doing more research on ECT. I printed off some very informative information about electrode placement and stimulation techniques. I went in to see the doctor today knowing if my questions were not answered adequately I would not schedule anymore treatments. I asked him specifically about the four types of electrode placement.
