Seizure medications for infants

Common Questions and Answers about Seizure medications for infants

seizure

Avatar m tn ACTH therapy is given for seizures in infants (infantile seizures) not controlled by usual seizure control medications. Usually these infants suffer from epilepsy related syndromes such as Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Landau-Kleffner syndrome. Mild variants of such seizures may improve with ACTH. In severe cases there is not much hope. I am sorry, but please continue your follow up at NIMHANS. Take care!
Avatar f tn This will not last for more than maybe 5-10 seconds. No other symptoms. He has been doing this since he was about 10 months old. Could this be a seizure and should we take him to his doctor?

Avatar n tn My daughter lays on the floor and tenses/stretches her legs. Her whole body becomes stiff (not her arms). My pediatrition says it could be infant masterbation but she is not touching herself or rubbing on anything or humping. She just clenches her buttocks in and out. It looks a bit like a seizure but she tracks and is alert. She does this for long periods of time. This doesn't cause her any discomfort except if I try to stop it. What is this?
Avatar m tn Hi there, i had a brain injury in feb and havent had any seizures yet but i was told in order to get back to driving/work etc i might have to take an anti-seizure medication. 647852 tn?1251247846 Thank you for your time and answer! Not sure if I reply back to you here but I'll try. Can methadone be used to wean babies off of the many other medications they are on? What if I want a second opinion by another doctor in another hospital? How do I do that? Sorry I have a lot of questions. Thanks!
Avatar n tn If no reversible cause is found, then the patient may have to be maintained on anti-seizure medications for an indefinite period of time. The best that you can do for now is make sure he is able to take in the medications prescribed. You can also ask your doctor if there are any ongoing clinical trials or studies that can offer some assistance regarding the provision of medications. Be strong. Regards and God bless.
Avatar m tn Meds are really the only way to reduce the frequency and intensity of seizures, though some people have seizure triggers (flashing light, for instance) and so avoiding triggers is important for them. The ketogenic diet (an extremely low carb diet, only to be undertaken with physician approval and supervision) can help some people with seizures, but is typically tried only after several different meds have failed to provide relief.
Avatar m tn sometimes, several EEGs are needed prior to any abnormalities being detected.

Avatar f tn I too suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, but am fortunate that mine are quiet enough to be handled through acupuncture, massage and relaxation techniques. Have you tried any of those treatments to see if there is any relief for you? Acupuncture, especially, was VERY helpful in getting me off my meds (prior to my pregnancy) As I don't take meds, I can't offer any specific help, but did want to offer the above advice and to share with you websites that might help you... http://www.

12182312 tn?1427683956 Quick question And I still will ask my doctor about this, but wanted your opinion. I take Paxil for depression, well generic brand, and also metoprolol for fast palpitations. My paroxetine is 40mg, and metoprolol is 25mg. Are they safe to take together. Is one an upper, one a downer. I take Paxil in the morning, metoprolol before bed.
Avatar f tn I was on prednisone and medrol pack numerous times all the while having undiagnosed hypothyroidism and didnt notice any problems. However Im not on those other medications so I cant vouch for that. I would call the phamacist and see what they say about it possibly interacting/causing problems.
Avatar n tn You may also ask for specific medications that can be crushed. If a medication is crushed and mixed with a bit of applesauce it can be mixed with a boost or ensure drink and even end stage alz patients seem to tolerate this well. This works just like a suspension medication we would use for infants or small children. Very small pills that are not able to be crushed may also be floated in a larger bite of applesauce and they will sometimes slide down easier for the patients.

2030686 tn?1351688548 I started having seizures last february (2011). I don't have epilepsy, as far as they can tell I have toxic encephalopathy. Which means toxins were building up in my brain from the combo of meds I was on. My reg dr said "serotonin syndrome" is another possible dx. The definition of a "controlled" seizure disorder is no seizures for 6 months. I've been going more than 6 mos between seizures.

Avatar n tn The physician who saw her (during her first siezure) asked for an EEG and Brain scan to be done. The EEG revealed Siezure Activity while the Brain Scan was normal. He refered us to Dr AV Srinivasan, a Renowned Neuro Physician in Chennai. Dr AVS Confirmed that this was a minor siezure and all would be well and prescribed KEPRA 250mg twice a day. This was on 12th Jan 09. The first dose was given to her on 12th Jan around 11 PM and the following morning my wife had lost her memory.
Avatar f tn Seizure like activity for her includes her being completely lucid and then the next second, it is as though she can look through me and basically checks out. Her eyes either shift very quickly from side to side or roll back and up to the right. It happens when she is awake or sleeping. Her breathing becomes very rhythmic - if I am not watching her it is the sound of her breathing that tips me that she is having one of these episodes.
Avatar m tn Our youngest daughter, who will be 8 in March, had a seizure induced by a fever in early November. The seizure lasted about a minute or less and she was convulsing and lost consciousness. I was shocked and scared because she had not had a febrile seizure since shortly before her third birthday. The only other seizure she had was at 15 months, and again, was a febrile seizure.
