Avatar n tn Hello I am on antiseizure medication carbatrol for trigeminal nueralgia. When I take the full dose I get a pressure in my head and I start saying things backwards. My doctor told me I have to take the full amount cause it doesn't work right if i only take half the prescribed amount. What should I do take the medication or get a new doctor?
Avatar f tn She is on 5 different seizure med. Carbatrol XR 1600mg a day, Lamictal 800mg a day just dropped to 400mg a day, Phenobarb 194.4 mg at bed, Topamax 400mg a day, and just added Depakote XR 500mg a day. We had just completed another Neropsych eval. And it shows that she has declined mentally we are not sure if it is because of medicine or the seizures. We are changing her meds around and will be taking her off some and do another Neuropsych eval in the fall.
452529 tn?1361847855 I saw a neurologist in 2004 and was put on carbatrol and taken off tegretol...well another seizure occurred. I stopped seeing that Dr. and went to a psych. with a background in neurology. He said my the tegretol was not carrying over until I took my night-time dose. So I was put on XR tegs. and prescribed klonipin for the jerks. Last month I was taken off 100mg of dilantin and I had a seizure on 3/30/08 and I asked to be put back on 400mg of dil, 800mg of teg, and 1500mg of depakote. The Dr.
Avatar f tn I am taking carbatrol. Would never dream of hurting myself in such a way just was curious reading these sights! Thank you for responding, i appreciate your time and expertise.
1559533 tn?1308948561 Yes, anti-seizure medications (Tegretol, Gabapentin, Lyrica, etc) are used to treat neuropathic pain (things like Trigeminal Neuralgia or Dysthesias.) They can also be used to treat seizure disorders. They did not seem to effect my diagnosis. They did not effect my neuro exams, MRI, VEP, LP, etc.
629808 tn?1222245070 Does anybody know of a medication that treats both major (grand mal) and absence seizures? My major seizures are controlled with carbamazepine (Carbatrol), but it does nothing for my absence seizures. Lately I have at least 5 per week. They are really starting to disrupt my life. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I am a 43 healthy female. I had a gran mal seizure in 2004 where I fell backwards stiff as a board and cracked my head open on concrete. I lost all consciousness and could not tell where I was when I came to. I do not remember falling. God blessed me that day as I was about to drive my husband and 2 children home from vacation from San Antonio to Houston. I could have killed them and another driver.
489924 tn?1209491123 The child is often sleepy and confused after the seizure and does not remember the seizure afterward. Partial seizures usually affect only one group of muscles, which spasm and move convulsively. Children with this type of seizure may also behave strangely during the episode and may or may not remember the seizure itself after it ends. Have your daughter evaluated at the pediatrician's office. A wide variety of tests can be performed on a child who is thought to have seizures.
567489 tn?1297250714 m considering cuttng in half or dropping to see if it is the cause of my dizziness, although Ive been on it since Aug 08 and only in the past 3 months or so have gotten more dizzy. I take Carbatrol for the arm pain after trying Neurontin and Lyrica, both which didn't agree with me - made me dizzy and hard to think straight....
Avatar n tn Thanks for the reply. I have never cmopletely blacked out, only partially. The hand shaking was really weird, and seizure was the first thing that came to mind. Do my symptoms sound like something that could casue this? What does this medication do that you mentioned above?
Avatar m tn Hi there, i had a brain injury in feb and havent had any seizures yet but i was told in order to get back to driving/work etc i might have to take an anti-seizure medication. What medications are there? And i was told by someone else that they will slow down my recovery. because they are stimulants? in what way would they slow it down?
Avatar n tn November 2007 I had my first tonic clonic seizure, I have had 3 more since then. After the first seizure I notice that MY gastroparesis had changed dramically. Most of the foods that I have not been able to digest for 2+ years I can now eat and I have not had any nausea since.. After the first seizure, I had a MRI, MRA, CAT, all "unremarkable". The sleep deprived EEG showed spike waves in the left frontal and temporal lobes.
Avatar f tn He put me on Carbatrol. The symptoms went away for about a week, but then came back one night, and it was so bad that I had a panic attack. My daughter had to take me to the hospital. This kept happening to me and I eventually ended up spending a whole day in the hospital, had a brain MRI, a spinal tap (to rule out spinal meningitis because I had a bad headache), and other blood tests. They sent me home and my doctor told me to take Clonazapam for my panic attacks.
Avatar n tn She has been taking lamictal and carbatrol for seizure control. These drugs are also prescribed for bipolar behaviors as well, but I'm not sure about the difference in doses. I haven't noticed a change in the cycle-like moodswing pattern, but I wonder if bipolar behaviors require a stronger dose of these drugs. No, unfortunately she cannot communicate her feelings effectively as her language is extremely limited which makes it all the more frustrating (for her and others).
Avatar n tn is ordering me not to drive under any circumstances and changed Tegretol to Carbatrol. Now that I am on Carbatrol, I feel very tired. I also started mentruating about 5 days earlier than I would have normally. The side effects mentioned calf pain....my muscles in my thighs are sore, and slightly in my calf, but more so in the thigh. Is this normal? Anyway, I would appreciate any input or advice from doctors or anyone who has experience similar symptoms or experiences. Thank you!

12182312 tn?1427683956 If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.".
3547166 tn?1347814000 A tracker for seizures that can track the times of day episodes occur and how bad the episodes are. Also the type of seizure, seizure clusters, hospital visits, before and after symptoms like sleepiness and headache. Plus medications and changes to medication.
947710 tn?1245862006 negative, I have been checked for everything I know, and nothing is helping. I have tried several medications and nothing. The eye pain starts in my eyeball, hurts to move my eye around in the socket. Then the pain goes into my eye area and can even go over my head, into my neck. The pain then turns into a massive headache. They are not migraines, migraine medicine doesn't work for that either. I have taken Lyrica, Carbatrol, Tramadol for pain, Aleve, You name it...I've tried it.
Avatar f tn Last night, I woke up, and came so close to seizing, but not sure if I had a petite mal seizure, cause I am exhausted today, like post seizure feeling. I dont know how to stop this at night. I cant have a sex life, and now I cant dream. I am taking carbatrol 300mg a day. I am afraid of a relationship because of my seizures, and I cant even masturbate. I dont have insurance, so I cant get a bunch of tests run by a doctor or hospital.
327385 tn?1378360731 Whether or not a seizure is partial (another term is focal seizure) from the onset helps determine which medications should be used. Dilantin is a good medication for focal seizures, but it has its side effects and there are medications with less side effects for long-term treatment of epilepsy.
Avatar f tn The pain appears to get worse following seizure events. He has be having a run of CPS recently and the pain is becomming intollerable for him. No one can tell us why he is having so much pain or what is causing it therefore nothing is done for it. I have tried drugs like brufen and panadol and panadeine. He claims these do nothing and refuses to take them for that reason. I need to stop his pain somehow.
