Common Questions and Answers about Seizure in yorkie puppy

seizure

Avatar f tn Took my ten month old puppy (mixed breed poodle, chihuahua, yorkie, pitbull) to the vet for a pre-op checkup and bloodwork before spaying surgery. Dr said she’s really healthy and her blood work was normal and she didn’t have heart worms. Dr gave me two chewables by Nexgard and Heartgard for heart worm, flea & tick prevention. She told me to wait a day to give them to her at the same time. I did it the next day. Puppy had a seizure a few hours later.
Avatar n tn m sure you were under the impression that you were purchasing a healthy Yorkie puppy, so you are completely within your rights to ask for another puppy. If the breeder refuses, or otherwise gives you a hard time, report them to the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, which is the parent club for the breed.
Avatar m tn Not in full mushroom form or visible, but spores in the mulch that were poisonous enough even in small quantities to kill our puppy. Hopefully this experience can help to warn others... mulch is super bad news for little ones. Even if you get the chips out of their mouths...the microscopic, can do them in.
Avatar f tn I have an older Yorkie. very sensitive skin..lately extremely bad flea prob. I use dawn dish soap, instant flea killer. I know bathing Maddie, my Yorkie, frequent is not good. I have no other thoughts about giving her relief from fleas. her skin has become bright red, past irritated, blotchy? and there's sore type things. looks like weird ant bites & recently noticed a dime size hard white mass, idk what to call it, on her front paw. I possibly can def be over thinking these issues.
Avatar m tn Then in the early evening, he had a major seizure. This time, he had three of them in a row, and afterward, was back to lethargic. As money is tight because of Christmas, we had no money to take him to the vet until today. He has been lethargic ever since Saturday morning, will only eat beef and rice that I make him and not much of it, he's drinking some water and using the bathroom outside like normal, but all he wants to do all day is sleep. It's very sad. Sooo not himself!
Avatar f tn We feed him puppy caesar food in the morning and boiled chicken and green beans/lima beans/carrots at night. Treats: Dream bones, pup-peroni beef flavor, and milk bones. And yes the blood panel was performed, they said his liver was fine.
1694934 tn?1306551088 My oldest saw a dead bird at 3 years old and demand a explanation!. We currently have a 5 month old yorkie and this puppy has been a blessing! Our puppy does not feel safe unless she is touching someone! Our kids have even noticed this trait! Kills who harm animals have been proven to have many social issues. I would have them checked out ASAP regardless how embarrassing it is to you.
Avatar m tn Has the puppy always had this problem or is this recent? How much blood? Agree you should probably take it in to get checked.
1262982 tn?1269970769 Yesterday afternoon, he was playing with my Brussels puppy and hit his head only an inch from the floor. Had a major seizure and was fixed and dilated with his tongue hanging out for what seemed like forever, but was truly only a matter of moments. Spent the night in the hospital, no neurological damage, and seems to be fully recovered. The doc says just don't let him get too playful for the next week because even a slight bump could kill him. Easier said than done...
1880256 tn?1322569908 our 6 month old yorkie poo has been wakeing us up 2 x in the night now for about a week to go outside. Last night I got up with him and he ran to the door and had diareaah(sp?).Today he vomited up some phelm two times, and his nose is warm to the touch.Could he have the flu?
Avatar f tn Hi everyone! I have a puppy (less than three pounds) and this is probably a dumb question, but he runs all over my stomach ! Is he going to hurt anything baby-wise? I try to get him to stop when I can, but he just loves to lay on my belly and jump all over me.
Avatar n tn A three pound Yorkie is EXTREMELY small. Look at it this way, the difference between a four pound Yorkie and a three pound Yorkie is the same as the difference between a person who weighs 100 pounds and a person who weighs 75 pounds! When it comes to being able to carry a litter of puppies and deliver them safely, that one pound makes a BIG difference!
Avatar f tn I'm getting a puppy in February. I had a pitbull but she got out the yard in November): & when she was found by animal control I didn't have the money to get her out at the time. But my boyfriends dog(it lives with his mom) got another dog pregnant & the puppies will be ready in Feb.
Avatar f tn Hi, the day after I brought home a then 6 week old puppy she had a seizure. I took her to the vet the next day, did bloodwork and all that came back was some anemia and low protein (hypoalbuminemia). She is a happy pup, eating and drinking, no vomiting or or diarrhea. She did have tapes and I had her dewormed. We thought the funky labs and seizure may have been caused by hypoglycemia from the tapes.
Avatar f tn I have a jack Russell mix,(2yrs old) the dad is a yorkie. she has been panting heavily for about 12 hours on and off, she is in a dark quiet place, and I am not sure how long before she gives birth to a puppy?? She has been very restless, she has had some discharge, and there is milk present, not dripping, but there. this is our first time breeding any of our dogs. I am somewhat prepared, but nervous just the same.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry to hear that :( my yorkie a long time ago got her puppy stuck and basically the same thing happened.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have a 5 month old Yorkie. Since I have had him he does this real quick cough. Sometimes when he is playing or drinks water. It kinda sounds like a gag. Or someone clearing there throat. He is also very itchy.
Avatar m tn I am posting this as it may help you. two years ago in Aug, my 13 yr old Yorkie began having anxiety attacks. In analyzing it, my friend who has worked at senior citizen centers told me it appeared to be 'sundowner''s" I researched it and my yorkie had the same symptoms , coming on early evening. She has been a very brave dog, never trembling , and has been on 22 plane trips before she was 2.
Avatar n tn I am SO SORRY for your loss! I really don't know what it could have been, other than from your description, and from the fact that this was a young puppy, it was something congenital that wasn't discovered by the vets who examined him and gave him his puppy shots. That's not unheard of, and it certainly is no reflection on the abilities of the vets, since there are so many things it could have been.
1839278 tn?1318610921 We could not begin to diagnose this on a message forum, and especially since Maggiemae has had numerous other health problems her whole life. Whenever there is blood involved an immediate trip to the vet is in order. Please come back and post and let us know what the vet said.
Avatar f tn It sounds like she might have had a seizure in the summer. I would take her in and have blood work done, and full Chem done. This will give you a clue to what is doing on. One of my BC's started having seizures about 2 months ago. It turned out to be a low thyroid. A low thyroid will affect their brains as well as other organs. Your dog might be having liver issues now along with the low thyroid.
Avatar f tn And, many times, puppies will pee twice each time. (After they pee the first time, be prepared, they may pee again in 5 or 10 minutes ) When the puppy pees where you want her to....give her lots of hugs and praise, or a reward. She will learn to potty where you want her to in no time....! Best wishes to you and your new pup. I hope she will be with you for many, many years.
Avatar f tn there is no contrainidcation whatsoever to having or taking care of a dog while immunsouppressed as long as the dog has had the standard shots. cats are different because of the risk of organisms in their litter box. Enjoy the dog and congratulations on doing so well post transplantation.
Avatar f tn well after much debating in the kitty room my mom wondered off to the puppy/dog area. we were watching the puppies play and there was this little black fur ball sitting in the corner all by himself. he was VERY shy and scared (which he's not shy with the family but is a TOTAL scardy cat!). of course we decided on the little odd ball sitting by himself. that was 10 months ago and now our little fur ball is a big beautiful 1 year old ....mutt of some sort.
Avatar m tn t get back up on the back porch though he was standing, then I took him out front where he slid off the lap and laid down and was breathing hard, we had found a tick in his ear and removed it, I got him a dish of water and tried to feed him but he would not eat and when he drank most if not all of the water he tried to drink dripped out of his mouth, we also tried to give him a baby asprin, after a about 1-3 hours he had a seizure. this all took place from around 10:30 to 1:30 ish.

If your pug is an older dog...you can still train her in the same manner...lots of praise or a reward Immediately after she has done what you want her to do.
