Common Questions and Answers about Seizure in older people

seizure

Avatar n tn As soon as she conflicted pain upon me I woke up with 5 people rubbing all over me. The Dr. said that I had a seizure and that I needed someone to pick me up. I had to call my mother to pick me up so embarrassed. He asked me why I didn't tell him about the seizures. I told him that if he looked on the history that he would find that I put down that I had seizures. Then he wanted to know why I'm not on medicine. I had procedures done. Sleep EEG they found no seizures only temporary blackouts.
1098760 tn?1266451497 He Will Not stop growling out of no-where at guests, in a church, the movie theater if someone comes up the steps, at crying children or people who dont approach him with confidence. This started at roughly 6 months old. EVERYTHING Until now has been based on POsitive Training. Treats etc. Ive never delt with a dog that wouldnt Stop with a harsh slap for such dangerous behavior at the Worst. I even resorted to frying him with a hunting dog collar at one point, at the movies.
Avatar f tn i am sorry for the problem, i couldnt answer you before, i would like to know if you still need help. In general older people recover with difficulties especially if she is on anti-seizure meds.. Any information about her brain CT? Any new lesion there?
Avatar f tn I was taken in by ambulance and had a million tests done and nothing came up as to why I had a seizure. Obviously I know it is from the Tramadol but no one else knows I am addicted. After having every test possible, the doctors wanted me to go on 1000mg Keppra. I chose not to because I knew it was from the Tramadol and am terrified of the Keppra side effects. Fast forward to a year and a half and I just had my 2nd seizure last Thursday night.
Avatar m tn I have read several posts about phenobarbital in relation to seizures in dogs. My old fella, Oliver is a mixed breed collie who is 16 1/2 years old who to this date has been healthy. On Sunday night he had a full blown seizure (which I have never seen before) that lasted at least 2 minutes. We took him into the emergency vets and they confirmed he was still seizing when we got there. He stayed overnight, did not have another seizure and is now on pheno (60mg) and prednisone (short term).
1653487 tn?1303527762 often times, people have to be on more than one medication to gain complete or fairly complete seizure control. It's a guessing game, depending upon what types of seizrues you have, your symptoms, if you tolerate the medication(s) well or not (many of them have hellish side effects.), and if the medication helps. Thus, with all this in mind, 6 months can drag out to be a year, i.e. longer than expected, to put it in a nutshell.

Avatar f tn She's in Denver and I googled jail, Denver, withdrawal, inmate and got at least 2 news stories of how people died in jail during withdrawal. I don't know if there were more, I got too upset to read the rest but it does happen. There is a really bad drug problem there. They call it a "High Intensity Drug Corridor". She will get her attorney tomorrow and I hope he puts a stop to these people.
Avatar f tn Most commonly, vertigo results from motion sickness. Motion sickness may develop in people whose inner ear is sensitive to particular motions, such as swaying or sudden stopping and starting. Another common cause of vertigo is an abnormal collection of calcium particles in one semicircular canal of the inner ear. The resulting disorder, called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, or BPPV, is especially common among older people. It occurs when the head is moved in certain ways.
439601 tn?1357864486 Now I started out with absence (petit mal) which is like a staring spell, these seizures occur most commonly in people under age 20, usually in children ages 6 to 12, but it sure happens to older folks like myself. Than the seizures went to partial (focal) seizure which was complex, meaning it affected my awareness and memory of events before, during and immediately after the seizure. You can also get muscle contractions, mine was lip smacking.
Avatar f tn Don't worry had my blood drawn today and had an absence seizure, its rare in most people but it does happen. The doctor told me this can happen when there is a blood disturbance in a heart flow and causes the blood to drain to the legs. The best way to avoid this is to lie down on a table with your legs up to avoid aby blood loss to the brain, you will feel a bit lightheaded and fuzzy vision but 99.99% of the time this works.
Avatar f tn He was sick that day with a high fever. The seizure happened in the evening while he was running a high fever. He had the seizure on the floor while watching television and we took him to the emergency room. The seizure lasted about 30 seconds in each state of the tonic-clonic seizure. Thirty second of convulsion, thirty seconds of being out of it then he would come through and roll over and go to sleep.
Avatar m tn this led to severe progression memory damage from the stroke activity and now severe personality change im like someone else. 100 years older in just a few weeks in this persons life and my peronality is of someone and voice of someone else, vision of someone else and i have no memory clear of my real life.. i have lost talent. as a person of artistic talent i can not recall how to match or have capcity to match colour or design or hear or speak music or speak at all.
Avatar f tn Now, I would never in real life reveal all this because I would think people would think I was a hypochondriac. But since people here are in the same (sometimes sinking) ship, I'll put it out there. Some may or may not be considered chronic pain; I guess everyone looks at things differently. When I was in my mid-to-late teens, my periods got very heavy and painful. For that, I went on the pill, and then I had so many pregnancies, I wasn't getting it all that often.
2081753 tn?1334769285 it hurts a lot and sometimes i wish my brain would send out light signals so people could see what i am having...hang in there...
Avatar m tn Then It was again and this time in July while playing in the school playground at 1250 hrs in the noon she had this 'seizure' wherein her friends reported that all of a sudden she sat quite, and was hitting her thighs and head with both of her arms a few times not very hard, was not able to recognize one of her friends and was complaining of headache.
Avatar f tn It is possible that he has epilepsy and has had silent seizures in addition to the one known seizure. But, she cries and worries every moment is her last with him, she thinks he's terminally ill. She worries constantly about my kids. She's worried I was bipolar or had schizoaffective disorder. She's worried my eight year old had schizoaffective disorder. She's worried my kids had allergies.
Avatar m tn Then take your time in deciding what to do and research the best options. Some people try alternative medicine -- anything from chiropractic to accupuncture to low fat diets, etc. But beware -- there are a lot of quacks out there that will take advantage of the unknowing desperate patient. Wishing you all the best!
Avatar n tn Cause if so my sister is and at one time she started having the same symptoms plus back pain and she had built up pressure of water around her brain that is caused from being over weight and she ended up going partially blind because that water was putting pressure on her eye nerves and nobody would help her because she had no insurance so if you are overweight u would need to be checked out for that and they would do a spinal tap and put you on water pills but now she has a shunt in her head t

Avatar m tn A lady was using this supplement for her dog just to give her dog the necessary enzymes/nutrients not present in cooked kibble, (that are found in raw food). She discovered, as a side bonus that her dogs incontinence ceased after starting her dog on the Fresh Factors. It works. You can double or triple the dose if you wish, to boost it in the beginning, as well, with absolute safety/no harm or ill effects, whatsoever. Anyways, I tried it, and it works.
82861 tn?1333457511 That and low hemoglobin right after a transfusion resulted in cancelation of the surgery. 5. Just enough dementia to result in shrieking outburst if anyone says something she disagrees with - which is just about anything. My father died in 1994 which forced both of my parents to finally prepare a will. After his death, my mother saw an attorney and updated her papers. She purposely left out a general power of attorney. I was already noticing signs of dementia at that time.
1535595 tn?1317993633 Hello all, I havent been on here much and I feel horrible because every time I log on I see old emails from women who needed me. So, at the end of this journal I will write down my regular email address, that way if someone needs to talk, I will see your email faster. Just put in the subject line that you are on Medhelp and Ill know ;) First, let me say that I have a beautiful baby girl that is extremely healthy and had no side effects or withdrawals from the pain meds I was on while pregnant.
Avatar n tn And that type of seizure does not cause a change in consciousness according to this one website. A seizure is a charge of sudden electrical activity in the brain that affects a way a person feels or acts for a short time. This makes sense in light of what I had learned about the neural-misfiring from my EEG. Another clue is the Tachycardia. Tachycardia often precedes a seizure and frequently persists throughout a seizure.
Avatar f tn I am just looking for some opinions. I have been doing lots of research in hopes of helping him in the interim year that we are waiting for an appt. and we do have another appt with the ped next week. I have also gotten him into a clinic that is funded by the Autism Alliance for an evaluation by them...although it will not be an official diagnosis it will help sort some things out, I hope. Thanks so much for reading and giving any input.
Avatar n tn It is so interesting to hear a "bizarre" symptom and have other people jump in to say they've experienced the same thing! I haven't a clue what could be causing the sensation you are describing. I have a symptom that I have been telling neurologists about for more than twenty years. It is actually my most disabling problem, and they just look at me like I grew a new head. Finally, reading these forums I found someone complaining of the same thing (I think).
Avatar n tn I have read others comments regarding pressure in the head, and would like to know if any of those people have been diagnosed? I truly feel that they have missed Lymes, I was covered in ticks in my flower garden during the summer, I brushed approximately 30 seed ticks off my arm and side and I specifically remember pulling a tick off of my stomach that evening...
Avatar f tn I am a dental hygienist and sit with my neck tilted looking in a downward position all day long. He said it was common in people who spend a lot of time sitting in this position...like computer people,secretaries,hygienists,etc.. After a few months of adjustments...no more problems. Hope this helps!
82861 tn?1333457511 That's not a typo. She is bleeding out somewhere in her guts. These people were ready to give her a pill and send her home to die. Yeah, I had a few choice words for the nurse practitioner involved who was blocking the way to admission. Gotta run to the hospital now. Mom is having a colonoscopy and endoscopy at 8:30 and I doubt the news will be good. She did the prep last night and reported it was nothing but old blood.
