seizure

Avatar f tn Hi....my baby is only 8 days old and as early as 3 days she got tremors in her hands and a bit in her feet. When I held her hands down, her upper body began to shake...I was so scared! I took her to see her Dr. and he didn't seem to take me very seriously...he told me not to worry but if she did it again to call him.....well, she's done it again and has an appointment the day after tomorrow. It only happens when she is sound asleep and it is only in her hands and sometimes feet.
Avatar n tn Our baby was born 2 weeks ago and is still in the NICU. The umbilical cord was around her neck and the hospital did not heed the early warning signs and she suffered some O2 deprevation. My wife had to get a crash c-sec and our baby needed resusitation at birth and was intubated for approximately 10 hrs aftwards. Since that time, her tests have been mostly positive. The main setback she had was some seizure activity at about the 36hr mark.
Avatar n tn We brought my newborn son home from the hospital today. He was born on 10-23-08, he is 2 days old. Everything has been completely fine and normal. He was a full term baby with no complications during pregnancy or delivery. Tonight while we were eating dinner we had placed him in his bouncer seat and put him next to the dinner table. He was sleeping and then suddenly awoke and was turned towards his left side with both his right arm and leg jerking so hard that it kicked his blanket off.
Avatar n tn His pupils will get big then small and thes he would just scream in agony. The pain would come in waves. The neuro put him on Amitriptyline HCL 10mg so he could sleep through the pain at night. I Aaron into a bigger hospital, please tell me some questions that need to be asked also comments or remarks you would have.
Avatar f tn There aren't any docs here - this is a patient to patient support forum. I'm sorry your family is going through this. The thing is, the baby isn't "normal". Something is wrong, they just don't know what. Have the doctors actually said the baby is fine, or have they said all the tests come back appearing normal so we haven't found what is causing the problem yet?
Avatar n tn I have 5 kids and a newborn. I haven't slept through the night in about 8 years! I am sure stress is playing a role due to our economic situation as well. I'm glad to find these posts. I was afraid of a blood clot or something else. It's been going on for 4 days. Like many, I thought it was a cell phone. It is in my left foot between my pinky toe and the next one. It has begun to vibrate up my leg a little today. This is quite bothersome.
Avatar n tn I'm looking for the name of the drug that was prescribed for anti-nausea in pregnancy in the 70's and 80's that was subsequently banned because of problems it would cause female children. Also any information about the effects to the child (22)attempting pregnancy.
Avatar n tn My 3 yr old son was born in Russia, a difficult birth and Russian doctors said he had hypertension of the brain that they wished to treat medically upon birth. I did research on the web and consulted some US doctors over the phone. We also saw a western doctor in Moscow who said it was nothing and confirmed that about 90% of the children born in Russia also receive this diagnosis. US and West tend not to treat it while Russians treat it - just a different medical philosophy.

Avatar n tn Fortunately I have EPILEPSY and ironically the Dilantin (phenytoin ) I take daily interferes with the nuerons in the nervous system, so after taking my seizure med is the only time I get relief for a few hours. Drs. have been prescribing anticonvulsants for pain ( off label ) for decades. Nuerontin ( gabapentin ) is their favorite today, perhaps the mnftrs. suggest it or give them an annual vacation for prescibing it as opposed to a cheaper one.
Avatar n tn pregnancy and your baby's need for supplemental oxygen perinatally, there is quite possibly an increased risk for abnormalities in brain development which also increase the risk for seizure. One other key point you offered in your thorough description is that your son is starting to have some behavioral problems.
Avatar n tn Dear Joanna: Sorry to hear about your daughter. I am assuming that your pregnacy was normal, normal delivery, normal newborn period, motor milestones met on time with her walking about 1 year of age, beginning to feed herself, etc. I am also assuming that the MRI was normal except for the "cyst". Breath holding is a normal occurrance in children and to have a seizure at the end of one is not unheard of either. But, she has seizures other than breath holding?
Avatar m tn Ingestion in late pregnancy or labor can also lead to problems in the newborn baby. It is very important that you discuss your concerns with your treating neurologist before planning to conceive. I really hope it helps.
Avatar n tn every day so that if it starts to climb, we immediately start around the clock dosing of ibuprofen/tylenol. We have to carry an emergency kit with us everywhere in case of seizure, because his seizures are complex and long and almost killed him. The pediatrician is concerned and follows him closely. Blood work shows low white cell count...but it's always during a "virus" which can lower the WBC count, so it's hard to know if his count is low when he's not sick.
Avatar n tn I also sleep on my right side with my arm up under my pillow to cradle my neck as i have severe neck arthritis from a car accident 6 or 7 years ago. i don't know if that is a factor in my numbness. i also notice that it goes numb more often on the days i do wear my bra. i would appreciate any advice or if you also have had a numb mid back, any suggestions.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure someone can live with Crohn's for 50 years. In 50 years my son will only be 63! I am in agony here and have thought of jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge or swallowing all the Lexapro's and Xanax's they gave me in my garage with the car engine on. Please don't tell me my chld needs me because I cannot bear to sit around and watch him suffer. He might be better off without me crying in front of him all the time.

469198 tn?1207185876 - i just gave birth to a beautiful baby boy - (3-8-08) - 12 hours after him being born i noticed he was kind of slapping himself in the face - then a quiver in his lips and neck - so i thought he was cold - but then his whole body started jerking - arms and legs all at the same time - i knew something wasn't right - so i told my husband to call the nurse - she looked at him and took him away - the doctor came in shortly after - and told us that my son had just a a seizure and needed to rush him
1969424 tn?1353024241 -) I must say if I was not the only pregnant woman in the room I would have thought they brought me the wrong baby...lol! She did not get any color from me, her father's Puerto Rican gene was difenitely stronger (you will see when I am able to post pictures) There were complications though, she had seizures at birth so they rushed her to Children's Hospital where she is still at. They gave her phenobarbital do she had been pretty out of it.
707647 tn?1251492147 In addition, because the study involved a group of young, healthy adults, the researchers believe that individual differences in response to sleep deprivation in the real world population of young, middle age, and older adults would be even greater. These recent findings demonstrate that the effects of sleep deprivation are not a "one size fits all" phenomenon: just as people have different sleep needs, their responses to sleep loss vary significantly.
167 tn?1374177417 I just wonder what it is! I can see my belly move up and down in the rhymic pattern in the one specific spot.
Avatar f tn For like 2 or 3 minutes straight she will go nuts in there and the only way I have been able to describe it is like a seizure! I googled it and habent really found an answer but saw a lot of posts where people reported the same thing and came back saying their babies were born healthy and perfect, so no worries!
Avatar n tn I was having syncope with heartrate going up to 180's. I wore a 24 holter monitor, was in the hospital several times during pregnancy and this continued until he was born. After he was born he had low blood sugar, he couldn't hold his body temperature, he was having trouble breathing and he failed his newborn hearing test both times. He has been in and out of every dr's office known to man. He also attends speech and occupational therapy at this point due to a seizure disorder.
Avatar f tn This lasts for up to 5 seconds and occours 5 times in an hour sometimes more. She does not cry after or before these happen and she seems to b getting wornout and not feeding as much. After these happen she then comes out of it panting, like she's catching her breath. We are really worried and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
Avatar f tn My son is 11 weeks old now and appeared to be having seizures before he was 2 months. He would go limp, his eyes would roll back and his arms and hands would twitch. The episodes lasted about 30 seconds and I tried to bring him out of it by gently shaking his arms but got no response. He also appeared to stop breathing for a few seconds because he would come out of it and gulp for air. It would also happen when he was sleeping.
Avatar m tn HI, I have a question related to my newborn baby boy: His age is now: 3 months and 23 days; He sometimes startles (most of time while sleeping or before sleeping) but today he did 3 consecutive times while he was awake. is that a symptom for seizure or normal baby brain development. can the moro reflex happen by itself? thanks in advanced.
990354 tn?1307136486 or street drugs. Seizures have occurred in some people taking tramadol. Your risk of a seizure may be higher if you have any of these conditions: a history of drug or alcohol addiction; a history of epilepsy or other seizure disorder; a history of head injury; a metabolic disorder; or if you are also taking an antidepressant, muscle relaxer, or medicine for nausea and vomiting. Talk with your doctor about your individual risk of having a seizure while taking tramadol.
