Avatar f tn I have had about 5 in past few years. But my most recent has been about 3-4 weeks ago and I don't know what is causing it. IT'S VERY SCARY. MY husband is freaked out with me to, how do I handle it,and is my baby in danger?
Avatar n tn haven't had one in many years. Later that night-in bed, I had another one and then went to the bathroom where I had a bad seizure. I've never had one in my life..maybe not even seen a real one, but there was no mistaking what happened. I woke up the house and promptly had another one!..this time officially witnessed (w/ all the official symptoms).

Avatar n tn I've had about 3 episodes where I've again had a sinus like headache with pressure feeling in forehead, temple pain and sharp or shooting pains that would last from 1-4 hours in which it appeared like there was a slight fog in the room and I got a funny taste in my mouth but then it went away. I was also waking occassionally with a sinus like headache that would last only a short time and then go away upon getting out of bed or be relieved within a few hours.

HELLP syndrome can be life-threatening for both the mother and her fetus. Avatar n tn Research has shown that morning sickness may very likely be a protective mechinism for the fetus because of toxins in foods etc. So possibly you'all are experiencing birth defects not because of the drug but because the drug surpressed your mothers natural defenses for you. More proof to show GO NATURAL, stop trying to medicate for everything. God made us a certain way, our bodies know what to do. Stop messing with nature!
Avatar f tn They did do a Cat scan then and more blood work and said everything came back normal. Since that awful day in June, the pressure in my head has NEVER left. It has certainly let up a lot so I no longer think I'm having a stroke but it has completely ruined my life. Since the ER visits, I've been to a neurologist, endocrinologist, my family doctor, a gastroenterologist, and an ear nose and throat doc.
Avatar n tn Needless to say, doctors are reluctant to perform surgery in the absence of an accepted indication and patients are not interested in surgery when the benefits are explained in the terms. Has your doctor looked for other possible causes e.g. gastroparesis small intestine pathology? Abdominal pain is often a diagnostic dilemna and a multitude of tests may be needed before a diagnosis is made.
Avatar n tn The thinking, which sounds logical to me, is that opiates replace the brain's natural endorphins and the brain stops making them in favor of the opiates. You stop taking the opiates and there's no endorphins waiting in the wings to step in and make you feel OK. So you feel like **** instead. The Lysine is what your brain needs to make more endorphins and other neurotransmitters; the B6 is a catalyst in that process.
Avatar m tn Gardenal and eptoin are pregnancy category D drug and may pose a risk for the fetus. The benefits from use in pregnant women may outweigh the risks for example if it cannot be discontinued and safer drugs can’t be used one cannot put a pregnant woman at risk of seizure. These drugs can harm the baby unless considered essential by your doctor. Frisium should be avoided if possible during the first and third trimesters of pregnancy and before or during labor.

Avatar f tn When my sister was 17, in high school she got her first seizure. She has had 4 more after that all in different years and times. During her first two pregnancies she stopped the medication and was fine during the pregnancies.. Then went back on the medications right after her deliveries. She is now 29, and pregnant with her 3d child and has had 6 seizures while pregnant. She is currently taking medication, while pregnant but it just dosent seem to work...What can she do?
Avatar f tn Monotherapy for seizures is usually indicated during pregnancy rather than polytherapy for decreasing the incidence of birth defects in the fetus. It is best that she is in close follow up of her doctor for having an uneventful pregnancy. I sincerely hope it helps. Take care and regards!
Avatar n tn A low activity EEG means a dormant seizure activity going on in the brain. The brain does not have a seizure, but is prone to seizure if favorable conditions are present, like high fever, sleep deprivation, etc. It will be a good idea to consider medicines, after the MRI.
Avatar f tn Hi, Phenytoin is a category D drug .It means that it is dangerous to the fetus .Taking Dilantin in early pregnancy may lead to birth defects but they are relatively uncommon. The various defects which may occur are growth delay, limb abnormalities, facial defects; mental retardation etc. Inform your gynecologist about your delayed periods. Take up urine pregnancy test.
Avatar n tn I have Left Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, my husband and I are wanting to have a baby...I am concerned about the effects on the fetus while taking anti-seizure medications...I am currently on 3000mg daily of Keppra, and 150mg daily of Lamictal...I am told that these medications fall in the "Class C" drug classification...I was curious if you could offer advise, offhand, regarding the risk of these medications w/ pregnancy.
Avatar n tn She is taking Phenytoin EX 100MG. 1capsule 3times daily. She is also a drug abuser. No one has ever seen her have a seizure, she is very secretive about the meds she takes because of her drug abuse. So is this med a danger to the unborn child.
1247161 tn?1291267011 I had my daughter about a month ago and she was born with d-transposition along with ASD, VSD, and pulmonary stenosis. I have a seizure disorder and started taking Trileptal later on in my pregnancy. Could it have still caused the problem?
Avatar f tn Pregnancy Category D is given to medicines that have shown clear evidence of risk to the fetus in studies. Pregnancy Category D is a stronger warning than a pregnancy Category C classification. However, a pregnancy Category D medicine may still be given to a pregnant woman if the health care provider believes that the benefits to the woman outweigh the possible risks to the unborn child. Klonopin was given a pregnancy Category D rating due to the problems it caused in animal studies.
Avatar n tn however, about after a week of being off I had a seizure and he put me back on it. At this point my husband and I are ready to have children. My doctor has advised me that Depakote is not the safest choice and has advised tegratol. My question is, will tegratol control juvenile myoclonic seizures and what kind of birth defects could tegratol cause. Also, where can I find some good information on different types of medicines and their effects on the fetus?
Avatar n tn my boyfriend has epilepsy, taking Keppra, i am miscarrying in 5th week of pg, can it be somehow related?
Avatar n tn “A small number of studies have raised the possibility of teratogenic effects of MRI exposure in early pregnancy. A reduction in crown-rump length was seen in mice exposed to MRI in midgestation . Exposure to the electromagnetic fields simulating a clinical study caused eye malformations in a genetically predisposed mouse strain.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had what felt to them like their fetus was having seizures in the womb? This isn't something that is well researched as it is typically brushed off as hiccups because it's the "unknown", and what research has been done had negative outcomes. However, I've heard of women being brushed off and then have their babies have a couple seizures (they grow out of it) and then their doctor takes them seriously and asks about fetal movement.
Avatar f tn If it is something like Valium or Xanax, you MUST stop it immediately with a supervision of a physician, because these type of medications can cause harm to a developing fetus. However you should not stop them abruptly since you may have a seizure if you do. First, you must realize that you are not the only one in this predicament. We get this question on this forum over and over again from wonderful caring women who want to have healthy babies. Second, you must talk to your OB/GYN.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am pretty sure I have huntingtons disease because it runs in my family and I have all of the symptoms. I had a mild head injury about 4 months ago that started it. It used to start with headaches. I would lie awake at night with terrible burning, tingling, and mind dissolving headaches that felt like something was literaly eating away my brain. Now I don't have headaches and I can't feel it but when it happens my nervous system goes nuts and I have weird involuntary movements.
Avatar f tn Definitely get into the doctor ASAP, I work with pregnant women at my old rehab clinic, and though opiates are addictive to the fetus, and can be dangerous in large quantities, they will not cause birth defects, etc. Xanax and other benzos are much less safe to take while pregnant, but are also dangerous to come off of cold turkey, so please get into a dr. ASAP! The doctors will understand, so like mary said, don't be afraid to tell them everything.
Avatar f tn About 20% to 35% of women have seizures more often during pregnancy because of changes in hormones or changes in how their seizure medicine is handled by the body. Ultimately, I think the decision sits with the neurologist as to whether your friend NEEDS this medication.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking Klonopin as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I am now 8 weeks pregnant. However the other day I had the worst panic attack and took one .5 mg in the morning and one .5 mg tablet in the evening. So did I risk my baby's health by doing this? I threw the rest of the pills away so I wont do this again. Will occasional use pose a risk to the fetus?
1589929 tn?1310070522 26th of this year and I'm still in shock and completely heartbroken (I'm also 8 months pregnant.) But since the night I found out that she was back in the hospital I haven't been able to sleep well at all, I'll get a few hours a night if that but I usually toss and turn and when I do sleep I dream about my Grandma.
